I was chatting about this to one of the best drummers I know last night and a couple of things came up

Playing "melodic" or "musical" beats that fit the song, rather than just picking a beat and keeping time

Moving with the music, not just an effort to entertain others but rather actually "feeling" the music

Fast fills, double strokes and stick tricks do not make a good drummer, but when a good drummer does it, it's very entertaining

When my drummer (who is fantastic by the way) throws in a little something, it always makes me smile and seems to make me play better.

While the initial post / poster was clearly a sales pitch of some sort, subsequent posts have been useful and informative, which is I assumed why it has continued.

Obviously there are people on here who do sales but there are also people who cover general owning information. I still like my Maruszczyk even though i have had a couple of quality issues that maybe shouldn't be there. These have been documented here so it is a handy resource looking through so you can get a general view.

107 pages of content, including: opinions; problems; advice and porn, makes this a completely viable thread IMO, no matter what its origins. My Maruszczyks have been great and have consigned my 4003s to being merely decorative.

In other news, I’ve been toying with swapping the necks of my Elwood Ls over for a while. Today I thought I’d check the hole alignment. Yeah, that’s not happening, they are not the same. I shouldn’t be surprised, Adrian has said in the past that (at least back then) that each body and neck are made for each other. Hmm, other GAS reducing tactics must be employed methinks.

Yeah. This looks like a kid made a Musicman copy for gcse woodwork.

Love Vulfpeck - but not in the slightest swayed by this.

if one of the cheap Sam ash MM copies (Carlos Robelli) turns up on eBay - I could be swayed.6C5E68C0-DCDD-4C69-97BA-5BA4F4CD86C1.thumb.jpeg.d6f5086fb5c0979f310e3af843b04a40.jpeg

Video with what looks one those Robelli basses being used by Mr Dart. Thanks to @chris_b for originally posting this video in another thread.

It is one dimensional though. It all sounded the same to me :) Sure play with different techniques but the sound was pretty much ditto. I love Joe Darts playing and I've been listening to him since his playing on 'The Olllam' album 7 or so years ago.

Certainly when Jack Stratton was demonstrating its versatility, I could barely tell the difference (a bit more attack with the pick, but not much more than that). Change out that knob for something more discreet (a Jazz bass knob perhaps) and it'd look much better IMO.

In a recent Andertons video they bought some Custom shop tele`s, most were reliced, some were not. Guess what one are still sitting on the shop floor whilst the others flew out the door? Yep the non relics are still sitting there much to Mr Andertons displeasure.

Strip off the hardware and necks, throw them down Guildford High Street, reassemble, job done. ;)

ultimately it's down to the exhibitors to keep it at a sensible level and not have 'noise wars'!

Yeah, that doesn't really work though does it? They're there to sell and if a punter wants to play loudly, they're not going to potentially hinder a possible sale by asking them to turn down. The Eich stand last year was a case in point, the exhibitor opposite must have been particularly irritated (I certainly didn't want to peruse their wares because of the adjacent racket and I was wearing earplugs!). Perhaps having the exhibitors have their own individual baffled areas within their stands is a compromise.

I'd been after one of these since approx. 1995 and had pretty much given up hope, buying other fretless basses instead which didn't look quite right or feel comfortable to play, when one fell into my lap very recently. It would appear to date from 1990.

Ooh, that unlined board is lovely. Enjoy.

I only took a full 470 once, exploring my '65 Bassman, discovering that capacitors store charge for a long time. Working on AC outlets I probably got hit a hundred times over the years, too lazy to make my way to the breaker box to turn the circuit off. That's common with electricians here working with 110v. I suspect on your side of the pond with 220v they tend to be more careful.

    Yep, you,know when you’ve had a full 240v, 13amp belt 😬.

  9. That’s a stunning looking J. I know that Antigua finish divides opinion (for the record, I’ve always liked it) but coupled with those block inlays on a maple board, it just comes alive; what’s not like? Fortunately for my bank balance, I don’t get on with the necks on Js (too narrow for me) otherwise I’d be having serious chats with Mrs Ez and trying to tempt you with my 4003s. GLWTS.

For my two penn'orth on the subject...

I do enjoy cooking chopped chorizo in a pan to the point the oil leaks from them, throw in some onion and chilli too... Then scramble some eggs in it. Delicious. Top with fresh basil or rocket and get it down yer neck.

    🤤 👏
