Thanks to this month's Guitarist magazine, I now have GAS for a Gretsch 6120, preferably a Brian Setzer - again!
-
I've been pushed to sing more (in one band, doing 75% of the lead) and it does get easier. However, as soon it messes with the groove, then someone else has to sing it.

You might find something here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/266722-band-names-a-fresh-approach/page__hl__band%20name

Look into my eyes (electronically speaking), it's the weekend and you are suddenly overcome with the need for a vintage P Bass, yes, yes this is the one you want

I frequently keep time in my beat group so I will not resort to cheap arcade games to tell me I'm not good at it.
Actually, I'm scared to do it in case I'm shown up !

Another one of the annoying FaceBook things, but a bit of fun. This was the quote that really sucked me in, "Take the test below and find out if you're a human metronome or a bass player's worst nightmare."

I got 898, I wish I could've used my foot on the mouse, but that might've been expensive. -
I've always been a fan of their stuff, both bass and guitar. Top build quality and a really helpful company when you ask questions. Very pleased with my recent purchase of a VT DI.

That was going to be my first reserve in case the bassist jokes start; but the version I heard was;
"How do you know there's a drummer at your door?
The knocking speeds up, then slows down, then they come in when you don't expect them to"
-
What do you call a drummer without a wife or girlfriend? Homeless.
How do you know when there's a drummer at the door? The knocking speeds up.
What do you call 5 drum kits at the bottom of a lake? A good start.
The U.S. Cavalry are approaching a Sioux war party, when they hear the war drums. "I don't like the sound of those drums," says the captain, when from the war party comes the reply, "Don't worry, he's not our regular drummer."

I have this 4003W coming, in about a week.
Oh, the anticipation; looks great (of course). -

I probably depends on genre as much as anything. I love the tone and clarity of my PJB gear, it's just that to get anything close to what I would describe as 'bass' I need to go to at least 250w in PJB terms. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking PJB gear at all, I've got loads of it, but the Briefcase and the Flightcase at 100w and 150w respectively do not cut it in anything other than a very quiet room. And it's not just about the band, it's about the ambient noise also, I've sound-checked with a Flightcase and found it fine only to find that when the room fills up it isn't, neither for me or the audience.
Flightcase on top of a PB300 - now you're talking!
Slightly OT (massively OT); Chris, am I right in thinking that you're using a Rob Allen without the nylon wrapped flat wounds? If so, which ones are you using and how do you find it affected the tone? If I'm wrong, oops! Sorry for the derail. -

Yes, the 801, lovely little thing.
Re PJB, I still have a Briefcase but whilst I love the tone, and whilst there are no high pitched noises, I've just bought a PB-300 as the Briefcase simply doesn't cut it for gigs, even those without a drummer ( and were a quiet band anyway). I'm sincerely hoping there are no high pitched noises with the 300!
I've had no spurious noises from my Cub, Buddy or 300, I think you'll be golden. -

I had a 1212L too, and stupidly sold it. Small cab, huge sound. I found the mid-hump to be an advantage - you will be heard under ANY circumstances. I may get another!
That sound gives the best of both worlds: good out front sound; great on stage monitoring. -
Great cabs, I had my 1212L for ages. Everyone talks about the midrange hump, which seems to be true, but my current Phil Jones rig, which is considered 'hi-fi' and pure, sounds almost identical, just a bit 'smoother' (I only changed because the band I'm in, I was barely having the amp and, therefore, the cab, ticking over). Could it actually be that other cabs are actually scooped (I know Ashdown ABM cabs were)?

We played a club recently, our first time there, we had hardly walked through the door when the landlady asked us what we'd like to drink. It was lovely, I think we all had a cup of tea (we're so rock 'n roll).

BC strikes again! Question asked at 8:15 and dannybuoy gives the answer that was being sourced at 8:46; what a community. Group hug

I'm not particularly knowledgable about RATM, but I can recommend Audioslave as another source of Tom Morello's work.

I'm not overly keen on the Lakland bridge, but I had a 5502 and got past it (the rest looked fine and it sounded good too) but you always know it's a Lakland bass. Small bodies look a little silly on my frame, but my 2 Ibbys are so comfortable and sound great. Gold hardware isn't a fave, but one of those Ibbys has gold on it (it fits in with the burr top). So if the sound is good and the ergonomics work, I can get on with anything except...the G&L ASAT bass; a Telecaster body with a long bass neck, just seems wrong (I understand that they are lovely basses though).

What's not to like? Congrats on a lovely bass.

I like the snappy thud with one setting, and a stand up bass sound with another on the Ric in the amps Vintage Channel. If I work the gain, and the blend on the Overdrive Channel, I get nice deep mellow sound. I think they're pretty versatile on the 4003.
Thanks for that. -

Yes, it's a slap riff. Deal with it.

Lets cool things down here and avoid getting personal. There's space for everyone's view.
Indeed and of course the thread's title is the opinion of Mr Richards (although I suspect he had an agenda). We should remember the abbreviations IMO and YMMV are often applicable. -
I'm just back from holiday and these last two Fireglos will have me playing mine lots today. I'd be interested in your opinion of the sound of those nylon wraps gsgbass.

If your standing on stage singing and playing an electric guitar. You're influenced by The Beatles.
Or: Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Elvis, Scotty Moore, Eddie Cochran, Muddy Waters, The Shadows, the previously mentioned Buddy Holly...the list goes on.
