  1. Seems we’ve moved on from… This reminds me to call my offspring (we text a lot, but don’t chat much and she’s at the other end of the UK), I’ve been worried about her lately, she lives alone (cat notwithstanding) and hasn’t been involved with anyone for ages (at least to my knowledge), apparently, at her age, “They’re all mental, Dad,” and she can’t be doing with their shenanigans/baggage.
  2. In today’s money, that’d cost around £880 (according to Google anyway), I call bargain. Looks great too.
  3. I Gouda Known Better - Jim Diamond
  4. Or you could order them direct… https://www.public-peace.de/maruszczyk-instruments-mf5-medium-scale.html
  5. I might be being daft here (or blind) but aren’t the yellow, green (pair one), brown & white (pair two) as shown in the diagram? The black wire in the diagram is your (surround) earth. Edit: hang on, I see what you’re saying now, the actual colours of the pickup don’t match the box description and diagram 🤦🏻 (sorry, I’ve been slow here). If that’s the case, you probably need to contact the supplier/manufacturer.
  6. Toe Jam - David Byrne
  7. Prior to the signature set coming out, there were adverts of Pino endorsing the standard cobalt flats, so one hopes he was actually using them. Prior to that, as stated above, LaBellas and, apparently, Thomastiks (I didn’t know that, so thanks for the info @Misdee) and probably stills does on some basses.
  8. That is class @P-T-P. The stacked controls are a proper cherry on the pink icing, cake.
  9. I guess, for a definition of loud, yes. Acoustic drums are loud and a vast number of tub thumpers don't know how to/won't play softly, or use Thai Sticks (other musicians are sometimes just as guilty with their, "It's how I get my sound," attitude*). Therefore, everyone in the band has to play to level of the drums (or the *plonker mentioned earlier). So that's the loudness of the drums (or *), multiplied by the other members in the band. All it takes is for someone to tweak their volume (either through playing harder or thinking they can't be heard and hitting output knob) and then, more often than not, we're off to the db races. The problem lies in turning up all the time, rather than turning down the offending instrument (often because requests to the party involved result in a huff - this regardless of experience, age, etc 🤦‍♂️). It is a problem as old as music and exacerbated in recent times with the obsession with sub bass (no doubt encouraged by the DJ scene) and miking up the bass drum in venues where the drum kit is already loud enough to stun small animals at the back of the room. Perhaps this is why duos really became popular with some venues, not some spurious licence restriction.
  10. Southbound Again - Dire Straits
  11. You certainly get some great gigs, Michael and that J sounds great in the mix to me. If it ain’t broke, don’t shoehorn a P in to fix it. P tones are where I’m at right now and have been for a fair old while. Having dabbled with a Mustang and a P, I’m back using my old custom Maruszczyk Elwood L, favouring the neck up. Feels like playing a comfy, old pair of slippers, whilst giving me the tone I want in spades (the pickups are split coils in J sized enclosures) and the potential for variation if required.
  12. I’m hoping they’re moving to Scotland, but I’m not holding my breath .
  13. I had one of these, or at least the original Cub. It was bought for home use and proved perfect. I then coupled it with a PB300 powered cab and used the combo for gigs. I took it to a full rehearsal and it wasn’t able to keep up with the acoustic drums, but that didn’t come as big surprise. Since then I have become a complete Phil Jones fanboy, I bought and used a Bass Buddy with the PB300 live of many gigs, then I I sold the Cub and BB and currently use a Phil Jones Flightcase, which is great for home, keeps up with a drummer in the studio, used it for a recording session and, again with the PB300, live on many gigs. Those 5” neo drivers are brilliant. The BG110 could definitely be louder, but that’s down to the small enclosure, not the potential of the drivers, IMO. If you can find a used Flightcase, I’d recommend one of those without hesitation.
  14. Heavenly Homes - BeBop Deluxe (I haven’t shoehorned these guys into this thread for quite a while now).
  15. I’d love another Ric 4003s, but it would have to be a walnut one, I can’t cope with the weight of the all maple ones. Interesting enough (or not, depending on your POV), the position of the 4003 bridge pickup and the ‘Ray are almost the same (when scale length is rendered equal).

    Pedal(board) extras

Some great ideas there. However, for my VTDI alone, it would cost in excess of £70 .
  17. Yes it would. The other advantage being, for smaller gigs, you need only take one cab.
  18. My usual go to for Stingrays is teal, which I love as a colour on most things. However, given… I’d probably go with some sort of burgundy mist to contrast with the hardware.
  19. Firstly, sorry for your loss. These things don’t always hit hardest straight away, my dad passed away in a February and it wasn’t until the September that I really let go of the pent up grief. Talking to your bands mates about is a good step, but make sure you really do take a break of some description, even if it’s just letting someone else do what you do for a while. As always, you know you can come and vent on BC, any sort of catharsis is good.
  20. Would I Lie To You - Eurythmics
  21. Comfortably Numb - Floyd
