  1. That's interesting, maybe this is why I like them on most of my basses - I like the sound of the string and perhaps the mixture of wood/metal/plastic carrier is more irrelevant? Hmm, That sounds sarcastic and it's not meant to be, I really think you might be onto to something there, at least for me. Interesting, very interesting...
  2. Oh, I'm excited for you. The general description of the '51/'54 bass neck has always given me pause, even though I love the general aesthetic of those models. I'm sure I don't know what you mean.
  3. I had a Basic VM4, which was a brilliantly built bass. However, whilst sounding fine, I found the pickup and/or preamp uninspiring. It was as if a Scandi style guru was asked to design the sound. It never sounded bad and I was happy with it for a while, but there was something missing. Hopefully, this is something that has been addressed in the many years since. Perhaps your idea of going passive with a tone capsule is the way to go.
  4. It kills me every time you post a photo, because I can't see them EDIT: Ah ha! I have found a way!
  5. IIRC, you have, or at least had, a bass fitting this description. It must be this that is destined for the toolshed for some 'reimagining'. I feel the need to listen to Futurama and Sunburst Finish now; Crying to the sky, searching for a silver lining...
  6. A BBD tribute? I'm jealous.
  7. OK, I get it really. Go on you Charlie! EDIT: You posted just as I did.
  8. One of my favourite albums of all time. A map-o'-Tazie? 😳
  9. What @neepheid said.
  10. Ah, the Fender Whatevercaster. A fine, if lesser known, instrument
  11. When he starts playing that fast, walking groove is sublime. Nice to see him playing his Bass Collection signature Jazz too.
  12. You make a good point. The ebony on my Rob Allen and Maruszczyk are like chalk and cheese (he said overstating the case massively for effect).
  13. I'm hoping that that's a typo and should read not meeting. If it is spelt correctly... c'mon, we want to know.
  14. Agreed, that looks fab. Mind you, if someone said to me, "I can do that with my angle grinder," I might decline the kind offer and walk away surreptitiously. The things you can do with an angle grinder, who knew? Is that the shape you're going for @Beedster?
  15. I remember that on my Ebanol 'boarded GWB35. When I (you) say razor sharp, I mean decidedly unrounded. It was OK TBH, I just had one those I'm only going to play 4 string phases, which, to my credit, is still continuing some 8 years in.
  16. Ooh, dat pretty! Oi! That's one of my lines, along with, "This new project needs a different kind of bass to any that I currently have,"
  17. From a story I heard about Norman, you'd have been fine and he would have probably bought you a drink.
  18. I've been using EB Cobalt flats on my J type for years. I have them on nearly all my basses.
  19. You should be in for a treat. Norman aside, Chaz and Johnny are worth going to see.
  20. Although that doesn't sound terrible for a vanity plate from what I gather. That said, I can of many other things I'd rather spend £600 on. Plus, I assume that there is also another cost to reregister the vehicle it's being attached to.
  21. You make a good point.
  22. Ah, but did he sweat like the great Norman? I've never seen anyone soak through a suit so thoroughly and so quickly than NWR. Not an issue now of course .
  23. That's a good description, not that it affected my playing of the bass, I actually miss that one. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd like to see a photo of that.
  24. Like they don't have enough to do already.
  25. History would indicate in the negative, sadly.
