  1. I have a set on order, bit concerned about the size of the poles sticking out the back of the pickup, can anyone confirm if these are just steel poles and the bars are the neo magnets? If so then maybe I can replace the steel poles with some shorter ones ?
  2. Zombie thread alert...... I have a pbxn on the way, hoping it will fit my Fender p bass(I remember buying one years ago for my Squier and it was too tall for the cavity), I currently have my go to Seymour Duncan SPB-2 in the bass and it's a great pickup but I would like to try a pickup with a bit more grind in the high frequencies as the Duncan has a lot of low and high mids but virtually no treble. I might not keep the pickup in there but I figured for £30 shipped it was worth the gamble. Anyone care to comment on how this pickup sounds tonally, was so long ago since I had one that I can't remember, interested to hear what its tonal bias is (mid focused, treble focused etc)
  3. My puerile mind is disappointed that there is not a thread for P basses with two P pickups called The joy of the PP Yes I know I am childish
  4. Oh man that is a good one, I have played so many gigs where the venues treat the band like cr@! , I remember one gig where the venue owner was literally asking us how long we were going to be packing up our equipment immediately after we had finished our set. With regards to drinks all the venues I have played in have been pretty cr@!, 1 drink seems to be the standard. One venue we played we were told we would get a rider....turns out the rider was 1 pint per band member
  5. After a Dimarzio model p or split p, message me if you have one you want to sell

  7. Have recently switched my Duncan SPB-2 to parallel wiring and having a Kiogon harness put together with a series/parallel switch so that I can still use series if needed and a passive bass cut. Am actually liking the SPB-2 in parallel so much that I prefer it to series, it is wound super hot so it still sounds beefy enough in parallel and is nice and bright in parallel. That being said I am wondering if switching to another P pickup would give me a touch more brightness. I know the model p is said to sound good in parallel but other reports I have read have said the difference is very subtle, also wondering about the DC resistance,I think it is wound to about 11k which in parallel would only mean between 2.5 to 3k DC resistance, can anyone comment on this pickup in parallel? The other one that could work well is the Entwistle pbxn but there doesn't seem to be info on this in parallel Any other p pickups that work well in parallel or is it just the SPB-2 and the model p?
  8. Honestly I have loved the tone of pretty much all of the Thunderbird basses I have heard but I have heard the modern ones are darker sounding and I think that characteristic seems to suit Thunderbird basses well, I also played a friends Epiphone Thunderbird at a gig (the more inexpensive model not the pro) and that had a gorgeous sound. That being said I know that dropping a Thunderbird pickup into a random bass will not make it sound like one but I am perfectly happy with a bass being its own thing
  9. Play it for god's sake, you will regret it if you sell it, also I agree with @neepheid there is no reason you can't play a thunderbird in a britpop band
  10. Hmm not sure about these Prosteels, they seem to sound good on some basses and rubbish on others, lots of boom and ping, pretty much zero midrange

And the strangest thing has happened, came back to my bass a couple hours later and the strings sound better, brighter, clearer, punchier....odd

  11. Anyone have experience of a single pickup Thunderbird (if such a thing exists) or a bass (of any shape) with a single Thunderbird pickup? I am working on a parts bass build and will be using a p bass body but am thinking it would be cool to do something that is tonally a little different so am thinking of getting the body routed for a single Thunderbird pickup and I know someone on here must have a bass that they have routed for a single Thunderbird pickup Thanks
  12. They make some tasty instruments, sadly most of them are out of my price range
  13. Awesome looking bass, I owned a Fender Musicmaster years ago which was terrible but from what I have heard the Squier Musicmaster basses are leagues better than the Fender originals
  14. Thanks for the replies Picture edited for clarity, hopefully this is clearer, excuse the sloppy editing
  15. Oh man, this is a huge hate of mine, have been to more gigs than I can count where the bass was just a big, mushy mess with no discernible pitch to it and then when the amped up bass drum comes in you cant tell what is what, to be fair though I like a lot less low end than a lot of bass player seem to like, I will take clarity over huge low end any day In fact, the only gig I can remember where I thought the bass sounded amazing was when I saw this band in the below video PG Lost live, there bass tone had grit and clarity and didn't sound like mush [Youtube]
  16. I would ask the tech if he can do an appraisal to see how easy he thinks it will be to fix and what he estimates it will cost you, however that being said the fact you could not play any notes anywhere on the neck without buzz seems like a red flag to me unless the bass came with the truss rod fully loosened from the factory, if it did then that would account for the buzz but if the truss rod was engaged and there was still buzz everywhere that would be worrying to to me.
  17. I am almost 100% certain that is the issue, assuming they are roundwounds that is a very long time to leave a set of strings on for
  18. Hi Truss rod adjustment time and the first time I have had to adjust a heel access truss rod, is the below picture correct for which way to turn the truss rod? Thanks
  19. Neither me, I gave up trying to learn it, same with the fiddly section of Sir duke, I got an approximation going but the fact the part is mirrored on the horns makes it too obvious that im not playing it correctly
  20. Hi, yes still available, either tomorrow or next week is good for me thanks, PM sent
  21. Yep, really in hindsight what he should have done if he wanted it to all look neat is had the bodies fitted with a rout to adjust the truss rod and left the pickguard without a truss rod notch, that way it covers the rout and keeps it looking neat and you just have to lift the pickguard to get access to the truss rod, much less hassle than having to remove the neck, put the neck back on, check the relief and then remove the neck again if you got it wrong the first time
  22. The last band I was gigging with actually took the pi** out of me when they viewed the recording of one of our gigs because I walked across the stage throughout the entire gig, each to there own but I cant see the point in standing still, doesn't seem much fun
