Hi everyone, a friend of a friend is selling this bass (http://bristol.gumtree.com/bristol/94/13397294.html) I've been offerred it for the seemingly reasonable £750. To support this, I'm going to take lessons to get used to the darn thing, but what should I ask the seller etc? Give me a hand people! Cheers, L Oh, and I'm 6'2" so a full size shouldn't present too many problems for me.
I wouldn't give a feck about the fretboard, if I had the cash I'd have it I'm actually looking for a vintage Fender, probably take a lifetime to save for one.
Not really, you can get early 70's ones for about £700, so not that long really... I bought a 69 for £1100 6 months ago.
No - it's not common - unless they've had a hard life & been played lots...
I've actually come accross quite a few that have BTW. I own one in fact (although it was an ebony fretboard on top of the sweetes Fender neck I've ever used). Sometimes there were truss rod issues which have split the fretboard, sometimes they've been worn down, other times the owner just wanted a change. To behonest though, value wise it's going to affect it a hell of a lot. If it's noticeable (and it would need to be a great job not to be!) then I'd factor that into the sale price.

I've wanted one for ages, and my family (about 20 of them!) asked what they could buy me, I said 'double bass' and they asked me to find one. As soon as i got back from the studio, there was on eon the computer! Madness I tell you. S I thought, why not, and hopefully she will be mine very shortly. i can't wait! She'll be on stage with me in a few months hopefully. I have an EUB that doesn't do the trick. Perhaps I'll put that up for sale instead!

Sloppy late 70's Fender, always the same, especially bad with the Antigua finish. And always heavier than my last 3 girlfriends combined I quite agree. These used to be the real lower priced Fenders because the finish was conasidered so undesirable. They now call it a 'custom colour' when to be honest it isn't, it's mroe like a 'factory special run'. If you see a jazz bass in Antigua though, let me know as I still want one for the collection :-)

It was used in the late 60's (on Coronado guitars) as a sort of proto-psychadelic finish. I've seen jazzes in this colour and they look great!

I've got a Candy Apple Red on from 66 and they are going up in value every year. I pay £200 for worldwide insurance and gig it regularly round the world. It's insured for £4,000, which ain't too bad I don't think. This bass is exceptional, but I don't like te black inlays with that body. Maybe it's just me...

Hello all, I'm getting rid of some old basses to get a new 60's jazz. Today for sale I have: 1963 Danalectro 'Dolphin' Bass. This is the king of 60's garage/surf band rock chic. All original aexcept for tuning pegs, this is a great bass for, well, next to nothing. £450 2006 Candy Apple Red Japanese Jazz Bass Body - Phwoar, this is lovely. Fully loaded and ready to slot a neck on it. £225 Geddy Lee Jazz - exceptional bass. Not sure of price, email with offers. Let me know what's fair. 1965 Gibson Melody Maker - all original, but with a repaired neck (it's a vintage Gibson, so it's not the end of the world). Cherry red, and a steal at £500 1950's Czech 'Parlour' guitar with original case. This guitar is a work of art, and sounds amazing. Action is a little high, so I'd use it as either a slide guitar, a vintage garage style smasher or a slide guitar. £200 sheets. I've got more, but this should cover the 60's jazz (plus a substantial amount of cash from me as well he he) Email/PM for pics. Lawrie

That's a refinished 1965 Fender Jazz from ebay USA. The seller has just taken some photos from US ebay and posted them up there. It's a scam, and gumtree is full of them. I was thinking of buying it from the 'real' seller, but didn't. AVOID!
