1. this is great reading all the replies - thanks folks! glad to see this thread taking on life of its own and evolving..... andy
2. "Don't think you can use "hell" in this context as he has also found God ....." erm...no really! edit: he is a very nice person though!
3. yep agree... doing the bread and butter stuff is the most important! and, good getting to know you guys as players!
4. but he is still a hell of a decent bloke...
5. well to answer the obvious: Male and of four string long neck variety! Anyhoo...thought I would ask this as it would seem there is a huge amount of missing info in relation to us all as players... I am a standard no frills solid rock bass player in the mold of Cliff Williams and Phil Lynott. I occasionally tap (Billy Sheehan) but not practiced enough to say I'm any good at it! Same with slap, although I do incorporate basic slap techniques into some of the bands original material. I believe that the players tone, technique and ability is all in the hands and if you are a decent player should be able to get a decent tone sound out of any sort of equipment even the perceived crap stuff! Over the twenty plus years of playing - nearly thirty actually! (31 now actually) I have always made a pigs ear of things when I have to think about it or attempt to be technical, sooo tend to be simple but effective - good grief that's me simple and effective..... andy
6. changed days now though! all nicey nicey with ronnie corbett these days huh?
7. awrighty folks... had an idea and mods - take note! Over the last few months, possibly longer (previous forums) we have discussed many famous players, their individual talents, musical style and the influence they had on our playing styles; we (the mods) should provide a new sub category consisting of bass players who would/should be included in a ' hall of fame' of which, we could put forward a list monthly/bi monthly of our favourite bass players which would provide a voting opportunity for all members of this forum to register their vote with the winning player/s gaining access to the hall of fame granting them legendary status! anyone second this? comments please.... andy
8. a new project for 2007! Dennis Dunaway Project - Kandahar live with Belly Dancer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfyB5OhDf0M
9. heard alice cooper's elected whilst driving to work yesterday. (Rock Radio FM 96.3) I am an Alice Cooper fan and was instantly (and natrually, retrospectively) in awe of how good Dennis Dunaway is! the man must surely be given legendary status - he can feckin play! I had actually forgotten how god he is and how much he influenced my style of playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NawhWb8Uu5E enjoy... andy

16. Evening folks there was a time up here in Edinburgh were the staff left a lot to be desired...however most shops I've been to in Scotland Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy have some real good folk attached to them with the exception of Kirkcaldy the other branches are pretty busy. I reckon that the biggest part of their problem is trade in/second hand gear...we all go looking for out of the norm and at good prices but they hold a very poor stock of s/h stuff and if you're looking to get part exchange they offer about 30% which is awful if you have bought something recently and incur a 70% loss. A few months ago I bought an Ashdown 8x10 then realised it was just to much for me to gig with. I went back to Edinburgh Sound Control to buy a second Ampeg b410hlf at £569 the guys in the shop gave me full refund on my Ashdown 8x10 of which they did not have to do but they did and I appreciate it - thanks guys! The other issue that I've kinda noticed is all the cheap instruments that are passing through the shops in order to catch the school/younger folks...it doesn't work as it creates a false economy for the player and the shop! Hope they can pull through though would be a sad loss... The guys who originally started S/C now own and run Guitar Guitar, they hold a great variety of stock and employ good knowledgeable staff...

Its a great time of year and a fantastic event for Edinburgh, going out to see Rumour6's band String Driven Thing tomorrow evening at the Tron bar - that will be way cool! If any of you are thinking of making an appearance pm me and we could meet up for a beer.... andy
21. I did inform ebay! couldn't stand the thought of someone being cheated!
22. That is complete and utter pish! I hope you will pursue this? get on to trading standards in order to get the correct info and go for it! I am thinking of shutting my account down also - enough is enough!!!!
23. it is in fact a squier vintage modified precision TB! value £239 new from Guitar Guitar or cheaper if you go to Sound Control! it is a con and am about to remind him of this! I have one of these basses and they are fantastic though! I changed the bridge and tuning keys, fender bridge and schaller tuning keys! what a difference it made prefer it to my departed fender 51 reissue pbass!!
24. Good points folks! kiwi - as eloquent as always! I've been thinking of emailing them re this for a while as I believe that it really affects our statutory rights as buyers and that the darker element of ebay will endeavour to rip real ebayer off! We appear to get hit on four different levels re fees: Listing fee commission on sale paypal handling fee money transfer I had an issue with paypal - wont go into details - but trading standards instructed me to get all information re resolution process from them as this process must be visible and accountable under UK law, they firstly knocked back my case, then once I pulled in all relevant info for the appeal looked at it again then knocked it back and finally when I asked for their process information they paid out on my case £100... andy
