1. Evening folks there was a time up here in Edinburgh were the staff left a lot to be desired...however most shops I've been to in Scotland Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy have some real good folk attached to them with the exception of Kirkcaldy the other branches are pretty busy. I reckon that the biggest part of their problem is trade in/second hand gear...we all go looking for out of the norm and at good prices but they hold a very poor stock of s/h stuff and if you're looking to get part exchange they offer about 30% which is awful if you have bought something recently and incur a 70% loss. A few months ago I bought an Ashdown 8x10 then realised it was just to much for me to gig with. I went back to Edinburgh Sound Control to buy a second Ampeg b410hlf at £569 the guys in the shop gave me full refund on my Ashdown 8x10 of which they did not have to do but they did and I appreciate it - thanks guys! The other issue that I've kinda noticed is all the cheap instruments that are passing through the shops in order to catch the school/younger folks...it doesn't work as it creates a false economy for the player and the shop! Hope they can pull through though would be a sad loss... The guys who originally started S/C now own and run Guitar Guitar, they hold a great variety of stock and employ good knowledgeable staff...

10. That is complete and utter pish! I hope you will pursue this? get on to trading standards in order to get the correct info and go for it! I am thinking of shutting my account down also - enough is enough!!!!
11. it is in fact a squier vintage modified precision TB! value £239 new from Guitar Guitar or cheaper if you go to Sound Control! it is a con and am about to remind him of this! I have one of these basses and they are fantastic though! I changed the bridge and tuning keys, fender bridge and schaller tuning keys! what a difference it made prefer it to my departed fender 51 reissue pbass!!
12. Good points folks! kiwi - as eloquent as always! I've been thinking of emailing them re this for a while as I believe that it really affects our statutory rights as buyers and that the darker element of ebay will endeavour to rip real ebayer off! We appear to get hit on four different levels re fees: Listing fee commission on sale paypal handling fee money transfer I had an issue with paypal - wont go into details - but trading standards instructed me to get all information re resolution process from them as this process must be visible and accountable under UK law, they firstly knocked back my case, then once I pulled in all relevant info for the appeal looked at it again then knocked it back and finally when I asked for their process information they paid out on my case £100... andy
13. Schecter Diamond extreme series 4 or 5 string...superb basses and you'll feel more comfortable with them then the epi - trust me on that!!! selling from £179 - £250 depending on where you get one and what day (Sound Control). http://www.schecterguitars.com/index.asp or this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Schecter-Custom-Stil...1QQcmdZViewItem had on of these, great bass with fantastic electrics and hardware and sounded superb!
14. Never a thin sound...articulate and rich tone brought about by the active humbucking soapbars... Mines was thunderous and was well received by any sound technician when playing through house PA. my one was the faded red like the Gibson SG specials.
15. try any band billy sheehan has played in! talas ufo david lee roth mr big stevie vai niacin he seem to solo at least once a side.......check this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9bG8hwZ9Bo
16. does anyone feel the same about this private bidding and private user id nonsense that eBay has allowed? I used to be able to decide who was real bidders and who were cheating but now, me personally, dont get involved with private bidding...you could tell by geography and by newbies who was up to the tricks...not now though and I feel that real bidders are getting fleeced to the point of being ripped off! I was looking at a 80's Squier bullet bass tonight and was considering bidding when i noticed the id privacy...when I checked the listing bids, it looked like there was stuff going on, wasn't sure though and I quit - it jumped from £60 - £150 in a space of seconds by bidder nos 7 or 9 cant recall, but they ended up pushing the price but not winning just left it in what you could call a suitable place for the seller! I think this affects us all as we most likely use ebay to sell our equipment.. thoughts please! ta andy
17. washburn xb400 - bantam! what a bass! it was the bass player from extreme's signature model/series... was a great bass for recording, sounded superb direct into the desk! I parted with mine many moons ago and slightly regret it. good luck andy

21. thats the bloke from Merchant City Music in Glasgow? certain stringsandthings are the same company! good shop, however, Sound Control Otago Street Glasgow have an instrument pro dude named Jimmy Egypt who is an absolute genius with all things bass and guitar - he is Martin main repair tech in the UK...he is a bit tetchy but it is worth it for the work he produces!
22. thanks a lot for the info guys! hamster - cheers for this as I was getting a little nervous about messing with the cabs wiring! I'll PM OBBM many thanks andy
23. afternoon folks I have a little problem..and the missus will concur! anyway both my amp heads, trace v4 all valve and svt 3pro, are 4 ohms min load and as of today I have parted with my Ashdown mag 810 in order to buy a second ampeg b410 hlf. I love the sound from these cabs, both cabs are 4 ohms and wired in parallel, can I daisy chain them connecting them to one amp or will I have to rewire them in series form? I want to run them as if they where an 8x10, only alittle easier to carry around! this is where my technical ability falls on its erse! ta for noo andy
