  1. My current faker projects: 1. A Hondo II. 2. A CMI.
  2. Well, my car hasn't got a glove box, but I get what you're saying... :-) However, I didn't go out intending to try out a cab; I went into a shop and they happened to have one. By that logic, perhaps I should take my bass and rig everywhere too, so that I've got all the permutations covered if I happen to spot anything I might like to try out.
  3. Perhaps you should read what I wrote in the OP, ie. "he said there might be another one in another room". So, no.
  4. I don't understand - are you suggesting that I should apologise for the fact that they couldn't demo an item they had for sale and for not spending my money there? I hadn't checked their web site beforehand, because I just went out to Farnham for a drive and a stroll about but I do agree that I probably wouldn't go there looking for bass gear again.
  5. I've posted it on one of the Ric FB forums, so I expect they'll see it!
  6. NOTE TO MODS: I'm pretty sure this is not a genuine sale, so am posting as a warning... I was browsing Amazon and I came across some RIckenbackers at £455.00, so I had a look. Hmmm, thinks Paul - that seems too good to be true. So, I sent an email enquiring whether it was still available and received a reply: "Hello, I will explain in this email all terms and condition of product and transaction. The Rickenbacker Standard 4003S JG · Electric Bass Guitar is BRAND NEW, never used, ( UK model, not grey market or refurbished), but Amazon does not let us list it as new. The product is Sealed in its original box and comes with full Warranty, receipt, all manufacturer supplied accessories... The total price is £455.00 including all shipping taxes if you are in UK and for international shipping you have to pay extra 9,99£ (outside UK) . If you want to buy, send me your phone number, full name, shipping address and I will contact Amazon asap to process your order. Dispatch is by normal DHL Services, which takes 1-3 days depending on where in the UK you are. My return policy is full money back in 30 days. For more information don't hesitate to contact us! Thank You" I replied asking if I could collect and received the following reply: "Hello, Price is low because: 1) Is last model in my store. 2) Was exposed in my store in the show case. Condition is a 10/10. Box Opened Only. All Manufacturer Supplied Accessories Included. Excellent Condition. Full manufacturer's warranty; Buy With Confidence This deal will go through Amazon Platform and A to Z Guarantee Program. To set up our transaction I need the follow info: Full Name: Shipping Address: City / Postal Code: Country: Product: Quantity: Phone Number : 99% order ships out same day or next business day GUARANTEED! Customer Satisfaction GUARANTEED! I will immediately send the required data, Amazon will contact you to order, details about payment and shipping. in maximum 5 days you will receive product. Waiting your reply ASAP!" It's ony £455 - what could possibly go wrong? (Check out the vendor's other items, because they have loads, apparently!)
  7. It looks to me like a homemade body with a Grant neck; Grants were Fender copies in the 70s, similar to Columbus.
  8. Well, if you're talking about other threads, than perhaps not. In the case here, I had good day out, but I didn't buy anything from that shop and I wouldn't make an effort to go there in particular. I can get the item in question without leaving the house.
  9. It's slightly over-dramatising to use terms like "so upset" and "feelings hurt"; I was more commenting on the futility of going to a shop. I'll go to places I enjoy and I'll walk past the ones which can't be bothered.
  10. Well, if asking to try out a cab makes me a difficult customer, then they're in the wrong business.
  11. Not really pointless - it'd give a good idea of its capabilities and I'm not sure that a 1x10 is really a gig cab. (I'd likely use it with other amps too, so it's not Elf-specific.) I happened to be there and would have probably bought it, but no plans to go back in the forseeable. Precisely - I can get one of these from (presumably) many places, and perhaps at a better price. The difference between a shop and the Internet is that you can go to a shop, try the item, and walk out with it there and then. It's up to the shop to make me want to buy the item from them, or I'll go elsewhere.
  12. I went into Guitar Village, in Farnham, for a look today. They had a Trace Elliot 1x10 cab there, so I asked if I could try it, as I have an Elf. The assistant (who was wearing a Trace Elliot shirt) said the only amp they had was a combo which was sat on top of it, to which I pointed out that that wouldn't work very well, as it had its own speakers too; he said there might be another one in another room, but really that combo was it. I don't believe that they didn't have another amp head in the shop, but they plainly couldn't be bothered. I said don't bother.
  13. I ecently bought a 100 pack of Rickenbacker compatible hex screws - I don't think I'll run out!

    NBD - Vox?

Well, I've just tried playing it and it's a bit hokey-cokey, also one of the machines is way too stiff. I think I'll disassemble it and try some experiments with removing the overpainting. In the end I'm only in it for a fiver; I would like to get to something playable, but if I just end up with a wall hanger, then that'll be alright.
  15. @BrunoBass Shame you didn't make it to the Bass Bash; we could've put them side-by-side (I think yours has a better finish!).

    NBD - Vox?

    I hadn't noticed the tuners - they're "characterful"!

    NBD - Vox?

Same as bertbass paid for his!
  18. I picked up this bass today at a car boot sale and it looks like it's a 60s Vox Clubman which has been overpainted (yes, by their son in his bedroom, the couple selling it told me). Any advice as to how can I strip off the paint without taking off the original finish too (the pickguard too)? I don't know anything about the paint that was used.
