  1. I meant in general terms, or rather what have they recently sold for, rather than what is for sale now.
  2. What's the going price for a Greco 4001 copy these days?
  3. Or run it passive?
  4. “Slow train back from London” - I don’t know that one!
  5. I’ve got Rics, Warwicks, Status, Fender/parts-built, and one or two others. I do like my Warwicks too. 🙂
  6. I’m surprised the shop didn’t reject them. Or are they expected to do final finish & setup, like car dealers do?
  7. I'm on 3 fakers at the moment. As far as real Rics go, I've only ever owned basses in the 4000 range, so I don't have much to say about the guitars or other models. Also, I've never bought a new one, so I've not had dealings with the company. So I don't see myself as a defender of the brand in particular.
  8. When you start personalising things is when I disconnect.
  9. Funnily enough, I have a Steinberger Spirit which I intend to put Ric pickups on!
  10. Nope.
  11. Ok - opinions are good.
  12. So, what vastly cheaper instrument does the job as well or better than a Ric bass?
  13. That is ironic, isn't it? 😕
  14. Well, it's the sound..., which spans decades.
  15. It takes a certain amount of skull... I mean skill... to make one of those!
  16. I've got a 4004 too...
  17. Looking good! I think gold will look good on that.
  18. Welcome to the club! I bought one too, a few weeks ago. When I plugged it in it turned out that it sounds rather good.
  19. You have to be a real man to be brave enough to admit you like the Rollers.
  20. As far as car parallels go, I would suggest the Rickenbacker bass is like a Lotus, in that they hit on a winning formula and have kept that DNA in the product throughout their history and have not bowed to pressure to conform with other brands. They're difficult to get into for some and the ride can be a bit hard, but by heck in their element they are fun! You’ve even got to take the cover off to enjoy it at its best.
  21. Yeah, the Bay City Rollers!!!
  22. Actually, the 4001/4003 evolved over the years; RIC did introduce other models, but folks just bought the classics anyway.
  23. He was a kid at the table when his mum drew the Rickenbacker logo on a napkin.
  24. So, in summary, JH is a bit of a Rottweiler as far as defending his product, but probably not best suited to a role in Customer Services.
  25. Well, I lucked out - I bought a German Corvette which had replacement pickups fitted and included the originals, so they’re now on the RB!
