  1. I reckon it’s some people saw Victor Wooten or Pino do it once and figured “oh this is what you have to do to be taken seriously “
  2. You beat me to it, like WHAT is that about?
  3. Today I managed to get 95dB out of my Ashdown Little Bastard and a Barefaced Two 10. OK it wasn't the most trouser flapping bass sound ever heard but it was pretty damn loud. I reckon I can get it to 100dB with my 2 * 15 Schroeder. That would be an amazing feat for a 30W head.
  4. I often wondered could you get a pure valve slave amp for bass 🤔
  5. You might not always need effects but sometime an eq or compressor pedal can really come in handy if the venue is not conducive to decent sound .
  6. What I love about these amps is they always sound a bit pushed even at moderate volumes . They can still get surprisingly loud.
  7. I never heard of this amp before so I checked it out ...thanks a lot 😭😭
  8. I’d get the CTM300 if I had a choice . That’s if you really want to be brutally loud and don’t mind the extra weight. There’s ways of living with a SVT type head. Use a trolley for example, get a mate to help, try and use a car with a low tail gate or van One word of advice , read up on manual handling techniques.
  9. Garden gig on Friday night 😃
  10. Did you gig with this recently ? As you know I’ve pretty much the same set up now. sounds loud to me?
  11. Yes, the smells and sounds of a valve amp...it’s hard to describe. People say “but you have to change the valves etc” I say yes, and ? I like the maintenance and long term aspect of them .
  12. I’ve 2 pure tube Ashdown Heads the CTM100 and little bastard and a hybrid Ashdown Spyder. I just really like the sound of valves clean or driven but I can see how they might not be the most practical head in the world. To me the perfect combination is a valve preamp with an MOSFET A/B power section (not class D) so you get some of that valve tone and with heaps of power without breaking your back or bank . I reckon the ABM 600 is probably the ideal working mans amp.
  13. Carvin basses, I just find the horns and headstock really off putting , how to make a jazz bass ugly .
  14. From a totally pliability perspective I really hate when the put 34" necks on an acoustic body with a traditional sound hole. I had a Fender CBE-100 and it was just way too long (and I a have long monkey arms!) My latest acoustic bass is still 34" and uses f holes, they positioned the bridge a good 3-4" back into the body and it makes a HUGE difference.
  15. Sunburst/white pickguard/rosewood Fingerboard fender jazz basses. I had 2 and thought that combination was just lazy
  16. Gold or silver glittery finish on a bass. Looks like a Christmas bauble
  17. Or those little prayer books you got for your first holy communion 😂😂
  18. Pearloid reminds me of Roman Catholic merchandise 😂
  19. Manbearpig bass
  20. My eyes...my beautiful eyes, how do I unsee this monstrosity
  21. P basses with too many Pickups, knobs and controls. You’re ruining a simple classic. For that matter... Any Frankensteined classics that has had extra nonsense grafted onto them.
  22. My current Ashdown spyder has 2 fans and they’re barely audible (my laptop is louder) . I had an Orange terror bass once and it was like an air conditioning unit. I think fans are the way to go if you want to keep the weight of your amp down so long as you get the right fan !
  23. Oh I dunno , there’s a lot to be said for tinny also
  24. I disagree with the Warwick bit. I really like that Adam Clayton p bass they do. To me it’s their nicest looking bass...each to their own tho .
  25. Stupid pickup covers like those found on vintage fenders and current rickenbackers that make the bass almost unplayable. Why 🤷‍♂️.
