Hercules. They do two and three bass stands as well although one guy did have one collapse on him. Try doing a search on Hurcules.

You lot just dont get it do you? I stand by what I originally said to the community as a whole - not the OP otherwise I would have sent a PM, why do the mods bother pinning stuff when 1. nobody looks at it and 2. nobody updates it with their experience. There is also a wiki that is a similar waste of space for the same reasons. The threads are pinned to make sure that they are at the top of the board all of the time. They are meant to evolve as more information is added - and I am far from the only contributor to the pinned thread and the threads that were copied from bassworld that are now on the wiki. These represent hundreds of years of experience. The wiki stuff does need to be edited to make it a more coherent document but I wont be be doing it. How about all you critics having a go or dont you intend to make a contribution to the community instead of just taking from it. As for the OP, if you want information about flatwound strings - why call the thread "Fretless baby"? Believe it or not you dont have to have a fretless to use flats but at least he did not get the usual deluge of "I use TI Jazz Flats" replies that most people get. That being said there has been far more response to my rudeness in response to his rudeness in response to his perception of my rudeness than there has useful information to help him decide what flats to get. The guy may be a good player but he has a funny way of asking the forum for advice. Perhaps he should read the pinned thread, the wiki and search for other threads on flatwound strings if he wants a comprehensive reply. Perhaps he could even update the wiki/pin with his experience once he has got his flats.

Now they look cool - I would not even call them weird. How does that bridge work?
Searching google is pretty useless - I tried 'Dodgy basses' and it came up with a GB ;0)
You got me

All the stuff copied from bassworld has been moved to the wiki - feel free to edit.

Well you could move all the frets.
You Jest! Big band jazz stuff is scored very precisely
Which is why jazz is such a broad church. You obviously can't have a big band all improvising. I dont consider most big bands to be jazz - there is a big difference between dance bands like Glenn Miller and the god like genius of Duke Ellington. When I played jazz at school we were an un-official band and nothing was scored. But then schools did not usually have jazz bands back then. The school I went to had an orchestra and a brass band but no jazz band, but I think that jazz bands have replaced the brass bands (at my old school) - or you could say its a brass band with some reeds playing jazz music. One of the good things about being un-official was that we could play what we wanted but still appeared at all the school concerts where the head, who was a jazz buff and supported us against the music dept who were not entirely happy, would sit in the front row. You should have seen his face when we started to play Whinin Boy Blues
.............................................Seems like a very odd scenario; Jazz band audition with no sight reading involved ..Do the rest of the band read?
Why? Lots of jazz is just improvision over a basic pattern. OK the Duke and Miles might have scored stuff but they were the exeption.
Will definitely try and get along to another gig soon.. That's a loud PA though, so I think I need to get some of those fancy new ear plugs if I can find out where to get them from? Cheers Nik
Try Specsavers. Most have a hearing centre as well.

If you are gonna start messing about like this it pays to get a good set of small screwdrivers - not the ones you get in the market for £1. Thus armed you stand a much better chance of not f***ing the screws. Also get a good pair of small long nosed pliers and some small wire cutters. You should be able to use the pliers and cutters to get the screws out. With the cutters try and grip the top of the screw and turn like a screwdriver. Not familiar with the bass so dont really know what you have done. What/how were you adjusting the middle knob.

Where do you finds this stuff - google "dodgy basses"?
-
Well I for one will not be answering any more string questions. Cos I am sick to death of answering the same questions over and over again because people are too lazy to look for the answers. Thats why the mods pin useful threads and why bass chat has a wiki where I have posted all the info I copied from basstalk/bassworld. Why you should expect everyone to pour forth all their knowledge (and a lot of other peoples in the pinned thread) because you cant be bothered to look for it? I expect to see all that wisdom coming from you chaps in future.

Clint Eastwood Fiesta Red is the correct name for Salmon Pink. Fender never made Salmon Pink and the famous instruments are a batch of Fiesta Red that faded.
As for the OLPs - I've been wondering about those too. There is a Tony Levin Signature OLP (MM 5), so if they're rubbish, maybe we ought to let him know..?
No one said they were rubbish - just not as good as a real one. Does Tony Levin actually use his OLP? To quote Jake Blues - No f***ing way.
-
Doh! You are probably right.

Have you talked to the old bass player?

What size hex key for an MM Sub bridge saddle

AT least you are making progress. Strings and Things have always had a good rep. -
Sorry I have a reall Nooby question - What does GAS stand for? I see it all the time here, I think it's something to do with wanting to buy new kit? Also slightly less nooby. What sort of quality is the OLP kit, I've seen some fiarly decent looking OLP stingray 5's. DO they even begin to compare to the real MM?
Yes. No.

What sort of stuff do they play - jazz is a very broad church? Stu Hamm and Steve Vai are not the first names that spring to mind when someone says jazz. How about So What? Nice bit of bass and they should know it unless they are a dixieland band.
-
Yes - along with Hendrix, The Who, Free etc.
-
Used one in the 70's. That was nice. Heard one in my local pub and it sounded good but in answer to your question loud enough for what? Wembley or the Dog and Duck?
-
Miles did the Isle of Wight - the proper one not the modern ones.
-
Mmmm - wood! Nice bit of quilt there. Thats a real rockers bass but in those pictures I do believe you are slapping it!
