  1. It's interesting how folk include browsing digital media in their set of social skills to the detriment of being able to hold a real time conversation when needed. They think they are better off socially. How many shops have I visited where I thought they would appreciate my business only to tell me to go online before going back to their smarties? And they wonder why high street shopping suffers. It's ludicrous. I have taken the time to visit the shop and they have told me to go elsewhere. It's a polite way of telling you to Foxtrot Oscar, nothing more and nothing less. Grrrr. Can't we go back to the days when shop counters were populated by bright young things who were just in the crucial stage of decorating their nails when you inconveniently presented yourself before them? It might mean less nail bars taking the place of music shops where you can go and buy strings right off the shelf for one thing! Bah! @ the OP; It's only the Internet at the end of the day if that's of any comfort to you. Just pull the plug if it irks you to that extent.
  2. And yet you wrote a topic title that is a shining example of clickbait. I mean, I didn't even know what a D504 was. I searched the Internet and found it was one of these: Clickbait. Open at your own risk
  3. But I think you thought to thank them for the free dinner anyway - right? Heeheehee. Don't mind me; I am known to play the part of Scrooge (the Grinch perhaps?) during the run-up to Christmas. I don't have children of my own. The hyperbole on the weeks leading up to the event just leaves me frigid. At least you've got over the 'big' day in your culture. We now have to do your Black Friday consumer fest whilst still trying to hang on to the Dickensian Christmas notion. We're bonkers.
  4. Thankfully no. I have however had a keyboardy guitarist who felt that the relationship between bass/guitar was a sub/dom scenario! That didn't last long I can assure you.
  5. You've got to show us photos of your 'pink torpedoles' now though. @Andyjr1515says they should be nicely warm. Why? Were they blue with the cold before? (If they still recognise Google-busters these days; pink torpedoles qualifies as one.)
  6. A pretty young thing like that could have whoever she wanted... I'd best drop the metaphor. It's difficult enough what with it being two strings and an octave up on my favourite type of guitar and all. It is truly gorgeous though. Your swifts seem to be flying in a sultry sky on the headstock. It's like a little piece of artwork all of its own.
  7. For the cassettes themselves. If they are old and coming out of storage, check that dampness has not taken hold. They can suffer from condensation which will act as a solvent on the oxide coating of the tape itself. Let them acclimatise to a warm dry room for a bit if you are in doubt. With a lot of older tape transports you have to be careful because of the tendency of rubber drive belts and capstan pinch-wheels to perish and harden. This is something to keep in mind if you get a second hand player; can you replace the drive belt? Are the heads cleaned and aligned? That's all I can offer by way of advice but then, it might be that there are new transports out there that work well enough.
  8. Gorgeous. Has anyone asked her out yet?
  9. Arf arf. Good topic. It's the first 'HOT!' one I've seen on BCiii. I just wish I could hook up with one locally just to work on my groove regularly. My step grand-daughter has a set of drums but she's six! She doesn't drive so according to Discreet, she's off the list.
  10. I thought LewisK had a good idea asking that. Maybe not for the General Discussion forum but it would help in the Gear Porn topic or similar surely?
  11. Welcome Stu. No need to worry. No-one is cracking a whip. In fact some folk lurk for years before posting for the first time. It's all cool.
  12. Welcome Hal. Isn't it good? All that wood.
  13. Never mind OMs. If Ringo got where he did by farting into a paper bag then really, the sky's the limit for novice bassists.
  14. Being a granddad is just another reason to give it a go. It's a great thing to jam with your grandkids. We have two that have shown interest in keyboards, ukulele, guitar and drums. The eldest got into ukulele because of Jack's interest and then he took it up at school. Being the class clown, it is good that he has it as a productive outlet for his 'enthusiasm'. The newest arrivals, the twins, are a bit young yet but I am sure we have scope for a Proclaimers' tribute act down the line.
  15. Thanks for that. It's useful to know for any given vendor if one can drop in unannounced if, say, on a road trip. Please don't take it that I have any prejudice other than that. That wasn't intended.
  16. Biscuits always. Mine's a hobnob ta. Milk and no sugar in my tea thanks. I've never seen a Luthier use biscuits except for repairs. Stick to your plan young man. Fender T'Bird? WTF's that? Heavy and inclined to decapitate your band mates every time you turn to see who's wolf-whistling at yer that's what. You can always do one as the next build.
  17. @honza992 was concerned about glue witnesses in his butt joints (Pipe down you lot at the back!). I described a process for mating matching parts that is more often used in metalwork. In short; when you've cut your timber, rub the mating surfaces together. Use short strokes with a firm pressure to keep the mating surfaces square to each other. Then take down the high spots (where you see a shine from rubbing) with a scraper until you've got even contact across the joint. If you have a plane and a shooting board however, I'd recommend that above all else.
  18. Well done! It looks much more integrated like that.
  19. Welcome Owentherozzers.
  20. Welcome Little Dragon.
  21. Welcome Karl.
  22. Massive bell bottoms at the very least.
  23. Crikey! The paisley scares me because of what you might have to wear to carry it off. Go for it.
