Part 6 - http://www.tayste.co.uk/2014/05/13/the-ios-bassist-pt6-time-for-the-studio/ This is probably the most important read of the series as the ideas I've gained from it are mind blowing

Spent the weekend trying to sort out my studio rig, live I've covered but my studio setup I like to run 3 channels. Clean straight from the bass An amped/slightly gritty sound A full on distortion sound generally done from a tall font Russian muff into a tech 21 gt2 clone So I've managed to do this with the sonic port, moving forward I'm still considering an interface with more outs but I can do this setup now using audiobus and auria the multi track recorder. It's a great sound, jamup as my amp sound (or bias) and then ampkit for the super gritty tone and just drop a Di pre ipad for the clean sound, that said when recording using the ipad I can digitally split my signal as many times as I want and record clean, gritty, super distortion, synth and even pitch to midi on a soft synth on another channel. I only need the bigger interface if I wanted to output all of these. More info in the blogs which I'll get done tomorrow night at latest. So this solves anyone who requires a blended sound for their main tone, essentially digitally biamping or triamping, or hell octoamping (new word?)

Well I'd like you to hold off, I've just sent the last of our strings over to Janek, he's no longer asking for donations at this time and we've said that it would be a good time for us to bow out as well. I believe the benefit has been huge and the response overwhelming

Probably won't allow charging

Class compliant usb means you plug it in and it doesn't need drivers to work, any class compliant audio interface will work with the ipad or iphone with a camera connection kit. Check on the manufacturers website to see if yours is class compliant Also don't buy that irig as you'll still be usinging a headphone out of the ipad when connecting it to anything. There are so many class compliant usb interfaces around some start at £30 and go up. Loads of choice

Told you it was possible

Use a camera connection kit and any usb interface that is class compliant. That way you can get midi and audio through the same device.
The options that you could do are (if I understood correctly) - Use external condenser mics into a little mixer that you can mix with your ipad output and then pipe out to your IEMs (either directly or via ambient pack). You could go wirelessly however the "ambientness" would be of a fixed position and not move with you. (For example, if you walk closer to the drums, they won't get louder... this can be a good and bad thing however!) As far as ambient pack solutions are concerned, there are two options. Sensaphonics and ACS. The ACS system is more advanced than the Sensaphonics system (there is a link between the two companies historically but that's one for another day). The other option is to use an Audio Technica M3, that has an aux input for an external mic (just clip it onto your collar or something) on the beltpack. Finally, you could go for a ported IEM with an adjustable port for allowing the appropriate amount of ambient sound in. However, be aware, that having a port on an IEM will sacrifice you bass response... For me, ported IEMs are never a good idea.
Yep you understood perfectly, option 1 is too much gear for me to carry for what I want. I've heard some quality control issues with ACS are they a pretty good company to deal with?

Hi all, Really interested in this as I've recently switched to using my iPad for my amp and fx sims live and of course monitors were an issue. I've run wireless IEM on the cheap before but the band had it's own mixer and would split all signals on stage but that was same band every night and a very controlled setup. So I'm comfortable with the concept and like the rolling light idea with the ipad and wireless midi controller so I just need some decent monitoring and as little to implement around it as possible. At the moment I feel my only option because I play in a lot of projects is something with ambient mics in the IEM or in a pack (however it works) because the setups vary so much it's going to be a nightmare to get a soundman to do my mix or split stuff to do it myself and again this adds a lot of gear to my setup and I just want to be walking in with my gigbag and man bag (because I'm a man). Is this a viable option? Is ACS the best/only brand for the ambient system?

I'd offer them for free in the for sale section one thing to remember is there are people in the uk who are hard up to.

Yes at the moment we are inundated with strings both sides of the pond, I've got about 40kg's to ship to the US at the moment. So I think putting collections on a hold is a good thing.
