1. Bought another from the States. Shipped from Illinois to my pal in Virginia, then $150 shipping to UK (27lb weight with ohsc and packing) via USPS/Parcelforce. Then a further £50 tax/duty. This purchase only based on a few photos but I have spent about six weeks due diligence and searching out the good ones. My experience tells me that the average sell price in USA is just over $500. Spares are expensive, it cost me $29 for a tone knob. A T40 is worth more in spares than as a complete bass. Am now bidding on a T45 and a T20. The maple one turned out to be in as good if not better condition than my white one. Both 1980 builds. Great sounds/tones and built like tanks. Also trying to source another G bass but there are none around. I would post photos but have no idea how to do it on this site....
2. Never had a problem and have used them several times
3. I have read that the neck on the G bass was indeed made by Modulus, evident by the patina/waves pattern. Not that it bothers me as I am just so comfortable with the G bass. None for sale at present either
4. I have used Paypal gift on several occasions and had no bother. I always try to buy locally though and use cash. Always do the shaking of the hands though.

8.
Shhhhhh! Keep the prices down My main gigging bass for the last 9 years or so has been a MIllenium AC BXP. I also have an International series that I got from ebay for about £60.
May the Sisters of Mercy help us all to keep the prices down...............
9. Many thanks...........more homework for me, appreciate your knowledge
10. Being new to Peavey - and many other basses - just how highly is the Peavey range rated in the hands of good players? Any that I should look out for?
11. This must be a mistake................. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEAVEY-G-BASS-1990s-VG-condition-w-Hard-Case-EMS-Shipping-Tracking-Number-/252713424176?hash=item3ad6e4d530:g:DtsAAOSwnHZYcHWc
12. Recently picked up a mint G bass and I am astounded with the sound, tone, etc. £200 is just incredible value. Do I need to do anything special to maintain the carbon neck?
13. Got the chance to get one for around £350.............worth chancing for the money? I just bought a Peavey G, immaculate with the Modulus neck for £200 so I am expecting the T40 to be something special.
14. Hi Guys How good are they? They appear to be very popular with a number of bassists. Worth buying?
15.
I paid around £700 for a 1997 stingray this year in reasonable condition
Were the late '90s a good period for Stingrays?
16. I will pick it up next week. I'm looking forward to it. I would post a photo if it was easy but the media link keeps refusing! And in the meantime I have been offered a Gibson Thunderbird...........in A1 condition..............2004...........
17.
Some people prefer the sound with a rosewood board over a maple - they both have different advantages - rosewood can be warmer sounding and slightly less in your face, maple can be slightly more bright - but remember Bernard Edwards's bass has a maple board - and recorded sounded warm, fat and mellow - albeit probably with flat wound strings. Figuring in maple neck wood is basically interesting birds eye, flame (striping) or quilt in the neck wood. Current Classic Stingrays have this and quite often basses from the 90s.
Thank you
18. I saw recently on a Facebook post that a Stingray sound with a maple neck was preferred over a rosewood. Is this true, particular to Stingrays or is it bovine?
19.
When you try it, something to consider, the area of the string you pluck and how hard you pluck it make a vast difference to the sound - arguably more so than you would expect - near the neck joint and with palm mute you get a fabulous thumpy sound - between pick up and bridge, and a bit of force, and left hand muting a great Jaco finger style sound - and anything in between. Full on Tim Commerford 1st Rage album sound can be had by bumping up the treble - Louis Johnson slap sound - Bernard Edwards fat finger style - all available if you can play it - far more versatile than one pick up has any business being!! The price is great given the hike in new prices - I certainly wouldn't sell one for that price. As McNach says you may like it - you may not. What they do have is bullet proof construction and when properly set up, a playability to match and possibly surpass anything else available. Good luck and hope it sounds and feels good. A 1998 may well have figuring in the neck also. Here's another link which further demonstrates versatility
Thanks for the info, superb knowledge. What is figuring?
