  1. Enough already ... guitards have feelings too you know (well some at least). Yep - the 8 song set has taken years to perfect, and can't be extended as the audience would have to go home for a nap if we did more. My other band manages a set with twice as many numbers in (probably) a shorter time - guitard has Fractal pedal thingy, so I'm not damning ALL Guitards. But I think Mr Harry Helix will soon join us on Guitar ........ Thanks for all the moral support everyone.
  2. Well B!*g"er me! I've got a Zoom g2.1 sitting here in front of me - it's my son's! He hasn't used it for years I was think of selling it ............. I always wondered what it was for! Of course, it wouldn't be any good for my Guitard, as it doesn't have inverse recapitulation modelling and inverse Luna TicTok-ediness. And it's FAR TOO CHEAP, and it would have come from an idiot Bass Guitard who know's nowt!
  3. I think I may need either; a) A New Band b) A New Guitarist Or maybe I should go for broke and combine a) + b) And yes - going from Dr Feelgood to Bridge of Sighs would be one example where folks actually might notice the difference, and from Walking by Myself to All Right Now where I'm pretty certain no-one would care! (But I am only the bass player .....) Bloody guitarist eh, can't live with them can't live without them ...... or is that "partners" ?
  4. Thanks everyone - I was starting to think it was just me .... being unreasonable! But I can see I'm being too forgiving ........ So there's a cheap fix out there in the form of a " zoom multi fix and program the patches in advance even a cheapie zoom g2.1 would do" or equivalent? I've told him to go and ask the bods in his local PMT already but I'll check this out just for fun. It's like being a teacher at the kindergarten .........
  5. Yep, that's what I said. To be fair he did point out that we were a bunch of clueless amateurs, but even so it's no excuse. I guess there are two issues, one is the time it takes to bugger about mid set and then the fact that he's so stressed out by the process he screws up the next song!
  6. Thanks BigRedX. It's more to do with him wanting to sound like different guitarists on each song (and not realising that "The Excellent is The Enemy of The Good"). Mostly this is about the Effects pedals with a little tweaking of the amp (a Classic Marshall). Being an old fart I don't really have experience of programmable multi effects pedals - but I guess a Helix of some description would fit the bill?
  7. Anyone got any solutions (except get a different guitar player!!) which should reduce the time taken to for our guitar player to change from being Gary Moore to Robin Trower in an instant? Would something like a Line6 Helix LT offer him the solution of moving to one saved "profile" to another at the click of a button??? Currently the set is 8 long gaps punctuated by 8 short songs which I suspect tends to rather ruin it all for the audience.
  8. I'd be interested to hear what it is that you like about the sound of the AT cabs compared to the Barefaced? I did have the BB2 for a while so I'd be interested to know what the differences are.
  9. In the event that no-one has owned both of the basses in question, would anyone share their experience with the with the Lakland 44 64 PJ? Really difficult to find one within a three hour drive so thought I'd seek opinions here before another sortie into metropolitan Britain.
  10. Hi, Anyone have experience of both of the above and willing to share? I really like my Sandberg - it's the nicest bass I've ever played and it is superbly built .... looks Ace too! Sounds great for more modern stuff, but maybe not ideal for the old 70's Rock. I do have a P which serves for the "Old School" material, but now find myself in a new band doing a really wide range of material (from Creedance Clearwater to The Strokes). So, I was wondering about investing in a new bass which might cover all the bases. I like a narrower neck than a Fender P - max 40mm is good, and wondered about the Lakland. So, if anyone has had both I'd be very interested in hearing about your experience.
  11. Hi, I had a similar issue - I couldn't get enough volume from the Interface and found I pretty much always experienced distortion issue at any decent volume. I think this is partly because my 80 Ohm impedance Headphones need more power than the interface can happily output. Tried a Soundcraft Notepad 5 Mixer instead of the interface - direct USB input from PC into mixer, plus Bass into channel one. This was better but not perfect. Decided to add a Headphone amp (works with either interface or mixer) and this was the best option. Used A Schiit Magni, as it has a high output level. Second hand around £80 on eBay. Now everything's a lot better - although bass isn't the best thing to playthrough headphones!
  12. Thanks All, I will check out the Barefaced offerings. Interestingly I had a rehearsal the other day - same room as where I first noticed the dispersion issue. I need to check with other speakers, but I suspect it might actually be a problem with "interference" i.e. there seems to be Bass Cancellation going on as you move away from the speakers - sounds like there's been a reduction in output as one moves around the room. I'll also change the layout of the room and see how it affects things.
  13. Bought second hand, never used in anger ...... it does make noises, but to me they are just "nasty". Might be a simple fix/ who knows maybe it's supposed to sound like that. Its a sound gate, Octave Up. 4th below, Upper Octave, 5th above and overdrive. Anyone want it - send me an address and I'll post it off! Cheers
  14. Not sure how stable a vertically stacked pair of 2x10 would be but I hadn't thought about that solution - interesting, I'll have to enquire to BF. The dispersion "obsession" is probably just that, but I've been the victim of it twice in the last week and if I am going to change cabs then, all things being equal, I'd like to minimise the dispersion issue. but you're right ..... Phil, the objective is to find a cab/sound I like and then worry about the dispersion. The Vanderkleys, stacked vertically do not seem to have the dispersion issue, but, whilst I still find them excellent, they are rather long in the tooth and are, perhaps, a little "modern", so thought I'd try out the Barefaced 2x10 option. Being fairly loud, and not liking any hint of "speaker fatique" I was just a little concerned that one BF 2x10 might not be enough ......... so thought I'd ask for help. And here we are ..... The Vanderkleys are consigned to our rehearsal space, I have tried a single BB2 which was great but at (8ohms) not on it's own (with my amp) and I really couldn't justify getting a second one at the time. I was thinking of a Mesa Subway 15 inch plus 12inch stack as an alternative - at present it's be a toss up between the 2 options. Hey Ho - should probably just practice playing and not worry too much ........
  15. Thanks Everyone - so if I did need 2x Barefaced 2x10's, and stacked them as per a traditional 4 x 10 I'd be rather defeating the objective (in terms of dispersion)? Better to go a vertical 2 x 12 configuration eg Barefaced Super Twin, to get the headroom/wattage etc or just continue with my 2 x 112 Vanderkleys. Any thoughts on how the Mesa Subway Ultra-lite 1x12 stacked on top of a Subway 1x15 might fare?
  16. OK - so we're looking at taller than wide and if possible as near to your lugholes as practical (height wise clearly!!). So that's Barefaced 2x10's or 2x12's, in "portrait" orientation or something similar. All on a crate! And yep, Al, it's lateral dispersion I'm after - it was a salutary lesson yesterday!
  17. Thanks Downunderwonder. I'll re-look at Barefaced. Probably need something like 2 of the 2x10 cabs. And Old School to boot!!
  18. Hi, Local Jam session yesterday - in front of the "communal" bass cab all fine, off to the side ...... (where I was) couldn't hear a thing ..... So I was wondering, what "brands" are known for having great dispersion (and maybe, ) which aren't. I've never really considered it before but it might be something to delve a bit deeper into. I'm about to either "double up" my cabs or, depending on what people think about dispersion, maybe changing altogether. Anyone any pointers?
  19. Hi, Anyone compared /have experience of the TI flats v the Dunlops? I really like the TI's, but they are too "floppy" for my Sandberg. Using Fender Flats which are "OK" but not great.
  20. Not sure about direct ordering - but if you give Mark a call at Classicandcool guitars I'm sure he'll know. Sandberg will basically "bespoke" a guitar for you - and have a rather tempting "Configurator" on their website! Terrible if you're trying to resist GAS!
  21. Had the Fender Pro P traded for Sandberg VM4 - in comparison, the VM4 is a joy to play! If I had £1.6k to spend on a P style bass, I'd look at a Sandberg VS4 - there's a passive version. Otherwise, I think Mark at Cool and Classic guitars has a nice one - if you like Black. I do like various Fenders from different countries, but in terms of "cut through" AND being rewarding to play the Sandberg wins! (it's the neck .....) Good luck and let us know what happens next!
  22. Nice - am I right in thinking that they are made in China, like so many other models. I wonder whether there's a "gap" in the market for a new UK built amp and what the real increase in costs would be? I'd certainly be more interested if that were the case .......... ...... I'll get my coat .......
