1. As an ex drayman for the now defunct Morrells Brewery, Firkins were amongst the various barrels i delivered and hurled down the cellar ramps Hogsheads are 54 gallon beer barrels. ( ale ) These are not so common Barrel is 36 gallons ( ale ) Kil is 22 gallons ( usually lager ) Firkin 9 Gallons ( ale ) Pin ( 4.5 gallons ( ale )
2. I have a Korg Pitch Black in Effects For Sale if you fancy a search
3. I've got a chap who knows how to rout templates, on the job, and accurately too Jabb, you may remember me PM ing you about filling pup routs - well i managed, and shockingly , made a good job of it. I went to my local wood yard and bagged up some of their sanding dust. They were real helpful, showed me where they stored it, and left me alone to help meself I made a semi runny paste of dust and some quality wood glue - cant remember the name but its yellow-ish. I shaped some wood in a rough shape making sure i could get the semi runny paste below, down the sides and over the top. I built it up in stages letting the mixture dry for at least 36 hours each time. Both pup routs are now filled and sanded back, also the front mounted cavity ( jazz stylee ) is also filled /sanded I left about 4 or 5 mm at the very surface so i could finish with a light real wood filler for ultra smooth finish Blew over the body with primer and to my surprise. there was only a little extra filling needed. It was easier to see the bits i'd missed after the primer was on. I'll get the body sprayed after the new routing's done. After that, fit Aguilar soapbars and Noll pre. Done !
4. very good sir
5. I wasn't there, but i did go one better and had jam with them and friend Jerry, who was the 2nd guitarist i think. The first guitarist was Mark Revell, another friend of mine but left many years ago. Just a thought .. look for VENICE BEACH track by The Egg on yootoob. Guitar played by my pal Jerry Never mind - here it is Track off their first album with original guitarist Mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm3G9QDobFQ
6. Bloody hell - our old band rhyth gitwrist got in touch earlier to say he'd tracked down a singer with NO baggage - result for me. Our drummer lives in Banbury too ! Sadly, i'm not an ACDC fan, but thanks for getting in touch Paul - appreciated
7. Over my head Its the jargon that got me I've officially lost my nerve and taking it to a local luthier
8. I still live and learn The Oxford Egg were utterly brillaint, by the way
9.
Cool! Not that spooky though, considering your Egg is still fresh, whilst mine is excruciatingly rotten (for the uninitiated, Fleabag's Egg is from Oxford and still active, whilst mine had one or some member(s) from the Canterbury area and became defunct in the early 70s).
We live and learn ! I didnt know there was a 2nd Egg from the Kent area. Yup, my Egg was Oxford based
10. Good tip terry - cheers I've also read that its worth taking out the main bulk of the routs with forstner bits first. This makes sense to me, and lo and behold i have a set of forstnet bits Does that seem sensible ?
11.
. . Cricket ground? OK, but now back on topic: . . .
Kinda spooky you mention the band Egg. 2 of my friends were both members of that band at different times, and i also have their first 2 CD's, which were Albumen and Travelator. I've also jammed with the Scott brothers who were founding members of Egg
12. I've already got bits here Terry, so i just need to google ' template router bit ' Seems to me you either need a bit with a movable bearing that followes the template, ( and obviously you move the bearing up the shaft as you need to go deeper - hope thats right ? ) or one that has a shaft the same size as the cutting flutes, so the shaft can butt up against the template I could be wrong , of course
13. I've yet to ask anyone which type of router bits to use
14. Well if Damien Hurst can sell utter sheeite, why not i say
15. Ah ! Well, dont let me near one then, because chances are, i'd melt the thing into a pool of liquid. Delicate is not my middle name
16.
Or you could just use a MAP gas gun to flame polish the edges.
Over my head bert What's a map gun ?
17.
another option (that i use for smaller cuts) is a manual coping saw, it takes time but less likely to get melting or splintering, masking tape both sides is always a good idea, leave the protective plastic on as well. for finishing the edges was taught to start with a fine file, then go through the grades of wet+dry paper (used wet) up to about 1500 grit, then brasso for a final polish, you can get it super smooth and transparent this way. we made keyrings using this method at school, then i used the same method for the perspex top of a hifi stand i made as my GCSE project (far too long ago!) Matt
template, Do the insides of the pickup rout template need polishing ? Sounds very finicky for just a template, Matt
18. Lost our voxist due to overbearing and demanding wife. Then other guys lost heart after 6 years of moody prima donna singers and / or wives pulling the plug, yet again. I'm now scratching in the corn for some mature ( say 45+ ish ) time served / gig experienced bands. I've managed 30 years + gigging and have solid decent gear and rig setup. Fretted and fretless bass and of course the obligatory bass players wagonette for haulage purposes Would love to work with decent keys, synth and sax , perhaps non slap funk ( i cant stand slap, sorry ) or jazzy blues, but mostly groove orientated stuff, rather than guitar widdling rock No baggage ( wife / kids ) so free to rehearse and gig pretty much anytime Mine's a double Jack D - ta
19. Thanks T - though i;m still thinking bertiebass. I seem to be somewhat hamfisted with delicate work
20. Oh hell. I read too slow and it chips, too fast and it melts. I'm thinking Bertbass already - cheers Mick The perspex is on its way so i wonder if i can send that bit of sheet to bertie with some measurements ??
21. Peeps I'm having to make templates for pickup and rear cavity routs, and i decided i want perspex. Trouble is, my memory of cutting perspex a few years ago resulted in it sort of melting back together behind the cut. I was using a jigasw and fine blade. Is there better way to get a clean cut - maybe something like a sharp stanley knife and making lots of cuts over and over again or is this likely to take days ? 5mm Perspex / acrylic is not cheap to practice on so i need to do it once
22. Or the other way round when selling and you get a message to say 'i'll have that ' and that's the last you hear
23. No, he was the walrus. Try to keep up
24. Been there and done it. I couldn't agree more
