Does anyone have one of these?: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Boss-FDR1-Fender-Del...id=p3286.c0.m14 I need a variety of sounds to come out of my bass amp from both my bass and baritone guitar, fequently during the same song (...I say song...maybe I mean pretentious prog piece). I have my amp set up for a pretty solid bass(y) sound and use a bass equaliser and BigMuffPi to give me more trebly/distorted lift as and when required for my bass. Now i've added a baritone guitar to my arsenal but need some other sort of EQ to give me nice bass-fuelled deep chords. Obviously essentially being a guitar, the baritone needs to have more bass added to it to give it the mid-way sound between a bass and guitar that i'm after. I was just going to get another equaliser but I think the FDR1 would also do the trick, plus it would allow me to add vibrato/reverb as and where I see fit. Any suggestions Bass (sau)sages?

Five at the moment, but will hopefully be adding a string quartet in the coming weeks, so 9 I guess...

Joe Garcia (who posts on here) does: http://www.myspace.com/joegarciasnoise It's pretty damn loud live.
I've seen something about a left-handed piano a long time ago, not quite sure what the point was though! I'm right handed and after years of playing bass there is no doubt that my left hand is now stronger and more independant than my right because it does a harder job! Alex
...any chance you always play with a pick?

Your amp should be good enough to gig with for now; until you start playing on massive stages (when you'll need a stack of at least 4 cabs) I'd say wait till you've got a few more shows under your belt to see what you really want from an amp to get one that will suit your live playing style. I find I have to EQ my amp very differently for each room (which is usually nothing close to rehearsal settings). Did you take any of your other basses for the gig, or did you stick with the with the Megaman Explorer?

Oh yeah, just had a thought, has anyone heard a vocalist actually sing nearly in key during their first live performance? I don't think i've ever seen it happen, maybe it's impossible, and something that only comes from experience. Maybe i'm just playing in and watching the wrong bands That would take the attention off you, but then again, i'm guessing you're the only girl in your band, and will get people staring at you anyway. My girlfriend gets that a lot.
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.aspx as previously stated, these are def the way to go. only a tenner, and they actually sound pretty good, don't kill the frequency response like foam plugs do. i'm partially deaf in my left ear and suffer from a mild tinitus -- and trust me, you don't want even that. there is no price you can put on your hearing.
Yup, we all have a pair of these in my band. I make sure I always wear mine when watching other bands and occasionally in rehearsal. Can't be doing with it on stage, but it works fine at the moment as our new favourite trick is playing quietly on stage (to allow a really nice gentle tone to come across during delicate sections) and then let the p.a. do the work when we need mighty mega doom. My ad-hoc tinnitus seems to be much better now that our lead guitarist ain't so loud... -
I'm sure there was a nice 5 string Stingray in the for sale section for £550. Can't go wrong with that
Thanks Mike, I take it you mean the sunburst one that's currently on hold owned by Trev? Looks good, would need to change something on it; scratchplate or body, it's a bit clashy at the moment.

Genres - Albums that defined them (?)

Err, House?!? SERIOUSLY, the last thing we all need is more house. It's unlikely that you'll get any session work for that; most of it will be sequenced bass, and even if you have to perform it'll always be very basic or mimed... -
OK, OK... the bass with some friends...
I reckon you could sell this to farmers, not only is it more humane than branding, you could combine it with animal skin treatment and have your own swirly swirly sheep-dip! Imagine turning up to the national farming awards (I presume they exist) with a swirly sheep; it'd win everything under the sun!
And buy a transit to lug them about in...
HA! I's already gots one... Might as well start building a proper reggae soundsystem and do gorilla gigs.
Are there really that many around? I'm the only one I know of in our area!
Yeah, my girlie plays bass. Shame she doesn't get gas like I do, and her bass is quite similar to mine, so I can't even steal that. She's done pretty well on the second-hand pedals front...
-
Sometimes, depends on the bass really. Some are good, some are very, very bad!

Thanks for the advice guys. I have rehearsal tomorrow night, i'm going to use the Jazz for the moment; i'll take your suggestions on board and see how I get on. Scary thing is that Electric Picnic is less than 2 weeks away and i haven't met any of the band yet! ...could be interesting...

Err just do both...generally
whatever you do make sure you make eye contact with your audience sometimes! you are playing to paying folk not your shoes or your fretboard
I am most definitely playing for my pedal board, but then again we are kinda shoe-gazey...

My first gig was a regional BOTB heat, playing infront of about 200 people. Was definitely shitting it a bit for that gig. Never had any problems at all after that, and i'm not really an overly extroverted chap. Just enjoy it as much as possible. Oh, and I totally agree with the whole rehearse it until you can't possibly get it wrong idea mentioned above.
