2. Just Get a dep Drummer... Hundreds in London... And without a doubt, more and likely s##t loads better than the one that has let you down. Once you start ringing aound, you will be amazed at the Talent out there. Then after the experiance of working with a good drummer... You will be thinking...S**t How are we going to dump our original drummmer Garry
3.
What is the advantage of the single cut? Balance? Tone? Cosmetic? Other?
Not sure there is an advantage...[ some Techy Bassists might have another opion ] For me it was more cosmetic. Although mine does balance very well. Garry
4.
the pickup is what makes the P so awful.
Funny that.. Wonder why so many top of the game producers over the years have taken a different approach to you.. And sound engineers come to think of it..... Not that i am a P bass lover myself. But awful is not a word that exists in the world of Rock & Roll and pop... Garry
5. Forget Pirate Day... Lets all have a Dutch cafe day!.. Garry
6.
The only change I'd like to make now is to swap the EMGs for Delanos... will probably get that done at some point. Apart from that... mmmm, perfect.
I have Delanos [MM/J] on my single cut, I quite often run the Bass in passive mode. [i have no passive tone control...so just flat] And they sound the dogs..really rich and creamy.. Cant understand why more people dont try them.. Garry
7. Had my dream Bass made for me a couple of years ago. [ see my pic to the left.. I wanted a single cut... with ebony board and profile of the Marcus Miller 5..got that. Agi 3 band pre-amp...got that. Through body Badass...got that. Something that sounded Musicman, and in single coil mode Jazz bass like...got that. Funny thing is that it has a massive out put..so i tend to use it in Passive mode. Had no more Gas since i got this... So one happy Bunny... Garry
8. There are a couple of good freewares out there just google. Or Jake... Just do it the Analogue way. Scribble it onto a sheet of manuscript, Scan and save as Jpeg or whatever. And upload as an attachment... Garry
9. Having done loads of shows over the last 20 odd years. I can tell you that you need a bass with no noise [Hum etc] A good volume pedal. A good DI Box [Otherwise you will be provided with a basic one from the sound team] My trusty Sans-amp has done me good for years. And get a good set of headphones [ Otherwise you will be provided with a set - usally S**T] Amps will not come into play [Or only for your own monitoring - and at low volume ] And of the last few years , nearly every show i have done has required a 5 STRING. When the conductors down beat comes in ,or the click starts, you wont have time to start messing with D-Tuners. Also comming into play sound wise.......... The director might have a moan, Or the Gay west end wendy MD having a moan. [ Bass is to loud - its always to loud, or thats i am always being told ] And always the straight out of school sound engineer, with his book on EQ, Cutting all frequencies above 500 khz [ They dont think the Bass goes up that high ] You cant go wrong with a MusicMan 5 string...even with EQ set flat, still sounds punchy and Second hand you can pick real bargains at the moment.. Shows seem to be getting harder and harder... Sometimes doubling on Upright / EUB... And at least one number on Fretless. Usually a combination of musical styles.... The list goes on and on... Oh yer ................. You will need plenty of thick skin.... If all that dont put you off.... Welcome to the 'Business of show'... Garry
10. Avoid the ...... New 5 string bass syndrome . 'I have a 'B' string, So i am gonnna use it all night because it is there'.. Garry
11.
Great song choice, BTW, its "riff" not "rift".
If the drummer is playing out of time, Or the guitar player dont know the changes, Or the keyboard player is crawling all over the beat, Or the girl singer dont know the words. Or the Sax player fills every gap, THATS A RIFT!....
12. If you are after some real 80's knobs.. Look in todays Mail... Interview with One of the Taylors from Duran Duran. They actually thought that they were good! Garry
13. Write out the notation for his gtr line. Then ask him to play it. You wont here a peep out of him all night. Best way to keep a guitarist quite , Is make him sight read! Garry
14. If you want to send audio or Mp3 files... Use this... Its free and quicker. [and dont clog up your email programme] Still better to zip/winrar up before. You get email notification, then you just download. http://www.yousendit.com/ Garry
15. Looks like its just us 4 then... Garry
16. Yep i Have tickets for the Mick Jagger center in Dartford... I saw him in Berlin Last Year...JH on Bass and it was Fantastic. We Hung out with the Whole band for about an hour after the gig In some tiny bar. Jimmy Haslip did not stop going on about himself.. Very funny, And he has had some life!.. Garry
17.
"Oh, I have gigged it today and I have decided it is going nowhere..." "Oh, it was only a feeler, I was in two minds, so it is not up for sale anymore...." Nothing is more irritating than this!!! Reading between the lines: nobody offered what I had in mind, so I 'll have to stick with it for the time being, but I will use a silly excuse... It's free!! I can!! I would dare to suggest to moderators to charge a fee for putting a bass up for sale, e-bay style. No "feelers" allowed: either it is up for sale at a specific price or it is not. If you do not know what to charge, do some research first and avoid some embarrassment. I know this is a great community but the "For sale" section is the "For sale" section, not the smoochy-smoochy, "oh, lovely!!!! but I am skint " waste of bandwidth!!! Anywhere else you pay to advertise. If you DEFINITELY want to sell it, be prepared and that's it!! Too many "I will try here, or it will go to e-bay" transformed into "... well, after all, I did not know what I was doing....". Very well, maybe there should be a charge upfront, to clear in advance the mind of people just testing the water. Attracted buyers will visit the site anyway. In a few words: too many taking advantage of the (free) system. Please do not flood my mail box with comments, I will not reply. If you want to add something, please do in the open thread. And before anybody asks: yes I have sold a bass here, a cheap one, and if I had known in advance about all the timewasters begging to reserve it for them for the next week/month, only to disappear in the blue yonder, I would have done otherwise. Surely not again. All the best to convinced sellers that WANT a change and go for it!! Thanx
Best Laugh i have had all weekend. No Contracts involved, No Solicitors Involved. Buyers and sellers can do what the want! About time you crashed landed into the 21st centuary my friend, and got a life! Garry
18.
Garry, I'm keeping an eye out on the bay. I'm finding it very hard to find clear information about the different models. Do you know when they changed? Regards Mike
Not Totally sure, I think about 3/4 years ago.. They were around the £1200.00 mark. But for sure a different beast.. Thats why they are real hard to get your hands on. I have tried both, and for me it was a bit like the Lakland Usa and Skyline thing. Good luck with what ever you go with. Garry
19. If you can, you want to get one with the original spec.. Keep you eyes open on Evil Bay. They were better Basses with an Ebony board. Bart pups, Badass etc. Like gold dust though.. Garry
20. Could always try Accuracy with a smile on your face.... Try doing a bit of live TV or a Broadcast... The producer sure would love a bit of showmanship... With bum notes and clams all over the shop... Garry
21.
I'm always bumping into fellow bandmates.
Girl singers i hope!.. Unless you bat for the other side... Garry

24.
whatever you do make sure you make eye contact with your audience sometimes! you are playing to paying folk not your shoes or your fretboard
Where does that leave Stevie Wonder..? Garry
