+ To all above. For recording/writing they are all pretty much the same these days. If you like Cubase and have the time, read up on it or watch the vids. plenty on you tube. Its not so much the DAWS these days, but keeping your PC up to scratch. And a Decent Audio/sound card or interface. Dont go down the road of looking for the holy grail of sequencers, Learn what you have, and invest the time in making Music! Hans zimmer [amongst others]writes his mock ups in Cubase. And they use PC's running Nuendo [ big brother of Cubase- same Audio engine] for the live TV recordings At the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. And i think Steely Dan used Nuendo [for some of the stuff] on their last couple of Albums. So you are in good company... Garry
i also first learnt to read and enjoy music by playing trumpet too, i reached grade 6 before i realised 4 strings were more fun than 3 valves. I'm crap at advice really!
3 valves, you were lucky. I had to put up with my mother shouting at me because i kept dropping an oiled up slide all over her cream carpet! Garry
Not arguing against reading gigs...done plenty of them, thanks. maybe you should read my post again if you think I am advocating reading as not required for a jobbing bassist/musician
Just putting the other side across. Not having a go. Also i think relevant pitch is just as useful as perfect pitch for busking. Garry
is it the last refuge for old musos?
What like the Rolling Stones doing... Erm..'Take That' Garry
I know plenty or Pit guys who read VERY well...but you wouldn't have them anywhere near a busking gig..and I am not joking.. and I know a few guys who haven't a clue what notes they are playing..they just have perefct pitch and really know their way around the guitar.
Possibly true... But i know of a lot of guys who do both really well... And guess what... They work alot. I dont think it hurts to read... If you do not see yourself going down the road where you are required to read, It can help you in the practise or need to learn quick world. Garry
