2.
Thank God for that! 'Jazz solo'... is that a euphemism?
To some a Jazz Solo is very offensive. A bit like Morris Dancing. Garry
 3.
Did someone say something about Morris Dancing? Where did that go? Did I imagine it?
Twas me - Then an edit went all Jazz solo on me.... Carry on. Garry
 4.
I hate this song but i'm so glad I know how to play it now.
But wrong.. 3rd chord is 2 Minor. Not that it really matters, or will indeed make it a happier Xmas. Garry
 5. Just had a listen on YouTube. It's in 'D'...Init ? With less than perfect A440 Synth tuning. Quite notorious well used out of tune Synth sounds from that period. But hey, who cares. 6.
Hey Garry, Do you know any info with advice on doing simple, not orchestral, [pop] tunes' chord charts/transcriptions? easy Laimis
Hey Laimis. I am not quite sure what you are asking - Software based ? When i was at collage [many moons ago] we used to share this book around a lot. The great Henry Mancini - 'Sounds and Scores A Practical Guide to Professional Orchestration' Transcribing and arranging for small Band & small ensembles. It's Jazz based harmony & changes [mainly from his film scores]. But it uses chord shapes & notation combined. Lots about chord voicing, simple and coloured. http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/048007/details.html These days consecutive 5ths are broken all the time - especially in film Music I do believe Mozart & Chopin liked to piss people off doing it. The Samuel Adler and Rimsky Korsakov books are great for full on understanding of Orchestral Scoring & arranging. The Rimsky Korsakov book, although quite old - Is still very much used these days as reference. Enjoy the up coming TV series Laimis. Garry
 7. The chances are that there were different players involved. Try his management company [Alan Menken] - Kraft-Engel Management. Email them for the personal - who knows ? On the other hand they might tell you to feck off and mind your own business... [email protected] Good luck Garry
 8.
This guy does a few Jackson things, and I think he really captures the vibe
Yep - Adam has been around a bit, plenty of heart & soul. Another one in the 'Elephant Ear Club' Garry

 10. Heads up on this site, it's not a freebie. But some really useful top notch and informative material for download, and world wide postage. Some boxed DVD stuff as well. 11.
Really enjoy his playing......
Great stuff..... He might be Duffy by name, but he's not Duffy by nature. Garry
 12. Taking a solo on Bass, and a Bass playing a tune are two different animals for me. Plenty of examples of nice fretless or Upright players taking/playing a lyrical tune over some sensitive backing, You don't have to be a technical genius to do that, but have a good ear for melodic phrasing. Its the player that gets a Bass solo a bad name, not knowing how to construct and build a solo, but just flying around modes and scales without really getting from A to B with any meaningful melodic or rhythmic context. So if you are confident in doing it, why not ? Garry
 13.
Kim and Baz The Fabulous Wealthy Tarts.
I used to do a late night club residency in the West End backing them two, six nights a week for about a year. Delightful Hooligans..... Garry
 14.
Well, this is the reason. I couldn't let a piece THIS nice just sit around not being used.
Nice, very nice. Do you play with your back to the audience ? Garry

 20.
anyone know whom did the original playing?
There was a bunch of top studio players in Germany in the 70's called 'Munich Machine' Frank Farian used these quite a lot i think - there was two or three Bassists, and one of those Bassists, who was extremely busy studio wise at the time was 'Dieter Petereit' But what tracks he played on, who know's - more than likely most of them. Garry
 21.
This is great playing, very groovy. Fans of this style might like to check out Don Blackman's CD, Blackman featuring Barry Johnson on bass. Amazing!!!! I had never heard of Don Blackman or Barry Johnson until I read an interview by Yolanda Charles who recommended the CD. I managed to pick up the CD from Amazon for about a fiver and it's the best fiver I will ever spend I'm sure. The track featured is apparently an underground cult classic. Hope you enjoy it!
I have this album, and its superb. Barry Johnson is a great player. Don Blackman is a top , top player - a very busy Keyboard [session] player back in the 80's/90's. I caught him a couple of times with David Sanborn. Great post. Garry
 22.
Surely he should be busy playing the drums?
Garry
 23. Nile Rodgers - where do you start..? His book looks like its going to be a good read. His intro to this tune just about sums him up, i think his style required an Active, nine volt battery driven right hand technique. 24.
Anthony Jackson's tone when playing with Michel Camilo is just heavenly <3
Just love that tight tone, and of course the tight on it accurate playing.
