1. my first bass was one of these. but in black with a white pickguard. was an absolutely brilliant budget bass before i ripped the frets out.
2. yeh i would take time shielding the cavities. when i have a jag i rushed it and it didn't completely solve the problem. would be nice for fender to have addressed that issue in the manufacturing process.
3. Im looking on making a ramp for my bass as when i double thumb my thumb tends to get lost under the strings. I dont really know what material to use. Any ideas? I would use ash or maple as thats what material the bass i made out of but i dont really know where to get it from.
4. me and my mate met the legend Jim Marshall at the mansons guitar show today. After speaking to him for about 10 mins he invited us to come visit the factory in milton keynes. He gave us his business card and said to ring the number whenever we were in the area if we wanted to visit. After chin waging he signed a couple of posters for us then we were on our way to the next stand. I just thought it was really nice to meet someone who has had such a huge impact on the music industry. And the fact that he was a nice guy that looked truly grateful for people thanking him for his contribution to the industry was really cool. I really hope that everyone i meet in the industry is as nice as Jim. Somehow i get the feeling that might not be the case. Anyway i say hats of to Dr Jim Marshall OBE. He is a natural born legend!
5. i had a go on the 44-01 today in mansons after visiting the show. And f*ck me, what a bass. Im surprised they price then so cheaply. The neck was really playable, the small frets made everything so much easier. Also it has suck a great tone. Ive always loved the warwick sound the most, now i think lakland have changed my mind. Such a great bass guna look into getting one next week.
6. ive been told that bass tech, drum tech and guitar tech arnt worth the tuition fee.
7. i got a friend whos started his own business, its not as a musician tho. he also works full time as a barman. he told me that because his business isnt guna make him lots of money he will be able to claim most of his tax back from his full time job. which is the main reason why hes set up. so maybe if this is right and your not looking to earn a huge amount of money u should tell the revenue as maybe it may benifit u.
8. i was in the market for one of these new. i wish i saw this a couple weeks ago. ive decided car insurance needs to get paid first. bugger. i wish i had 450 cos im only 30 mins away
9. for a such well respected and established singer i though Whitney Houston was pretty rubbish. nuff said.
10. thanks for the feedback. yeh ive thought about the new fender, ive had a go on the 4 string jazz and i must admit it was really really nice. but i keep hearing really good things about lakland.
11. I think i read that flea helped to design this bass. His goal was to develop a bass that will inspire young kids to pick up the instrument. Hence the bright colours. If this is true then flea should never design anything else... Ever.
12. Im thinking of buying a 5 string as i have just joined a function band and some of the material requires the B string. Ive been looking at maybe a lakland 55-01, i haven't played one yet but i heard someone in a music shop the other day and i thought it sounded pretty good. At the moment i play a warwick thumb nt and a mexican jazz, both 4 string. Would this be a good bass to buy? I dont really want to buy a bass and then find in 6 months it falls out of favor. What are you opinions on the 55-01? Cheers
13. its been the same setup since ive had had, even using the same type/gauge string, it and its only just started buzzing. it doesnt buzz on the open E, just on the 6th fret. how does the fret buzz come about? is it just down to the frets wearing down?
14. dam it. i want another thumb bass. im on 30 mins away from j28. have no money though,, bad times! really nice though. whoever buys it will be a lucky bugger.
15. I've recently discovered that my thumb bass has a buzzing 6th fret on the E string. I no this doesn't effect the sound though that amp or anything, but this is an 88 thumb in mint condition (no dings or nothing). Is there anything i will be able to do to get rid of this most annoying buzz? Or is it something i will just have to live with? I haven't posted on here for months. I hope everyone is ok Cheers
16. cheers guys. i will track down that book and have a wee browse.
17. hi, its been a while since i last posted on here. Ive set it upon myself to learn double thumbing. I was wondering if anyone has any tip/exercises which could help me. Any help will be much appreciated Cheers James
18. Jeff Berlin may be good but hes comes across as a cock in the interview. And his mustache makes him look like a pedophile.

We are currently looking for a world class singer to complete the line up! There are no choons on the website yet, but add yourself to our myspace to get updates!
Ive seen Thomas Langs DVD. 20. on my warwick i keep it in the middle. But for when i slap and pop i turn it down a bit to get a nice warm/smooth popping sound. I never use to do this on my other basses. They always stayed in the middle or turned up all the way
21.
Hey thanks for the offer, lols did sound a biiitt strange hahas. I live in a town called barnstaple in devon, problery to far away! cheers anyway
haha barnstaple. thats where im at college
22. i agree with the ashdown amps. They just seem dull and not worth the price tag that comes with them Also i agree with rotosound strings. Tryed them a couple of times and im glad i havent gone back to them. Also Ibanez, why are they so popular. I owned a SRX (cant remember the number) and it was uncomfortable to play and the sound was pretty uninspiring. As for ibanez as a whole, they're pretty rubbish looking. And finally any copies of already popular basses. For example why the hell is there so many companies copying fender?
23. Cheers for the suggestions. 'kind of blue' is looking like a possibility at the moment. My record player broke a few years ago. Never got around to replacing it. Which sucks cos theres nothing listening to vinyl. I may give 'bitches brew' a try sometime to. I like to f*** my mind up with crazy music. Whenever im in the pub i like to put Weather Report on the juke box, its kinda amusing looking at everyone that doesn't get the beauty of Jazz Fusion.
24. hi, ive recently been getting into Miles Davis and im wanting to buy some of his records. Thing is there is a stupidly large amount of records he released. Can anyone recommend which album i should buy. Ideally ide like one which will be cool to study the bass in.
