1.
... back then bassists were seen as failed guitarists...
My, how times have changed, eh?
2.
damn didnt think anyone else used my trick . TBH I find it really difficult to hear the bass drum and listening to the hi hat can be confusing so thats my only strategy.
Me too. Most of them are OK if you with resting a foot on the spike, if you ask nicely. Though one guy asked me to stop, as he felt I was "looming over him, pulling faces and it's a bit scary" FWIW, on a first time out, I usually ask them if we can just play some mid-tempo straight fours, no fills, for a few minutes. Just to start to find a basic pulse. Clever stuff later.
3.
i was just excited that i could play it like i can, that is an achievement for me. that is all!
Hon, it's an achievement for anyone. As for you Faith, why not show her how it should be done? Post your version - in a new thread - played over the original at song tempo. 48 hrs long enough to record it and get it up?
4. I've seen worse. Much worse.
5. Mesa Trolley - Trolley Mesa
6. Just had an es-175 copy off him. Quality item, mad low price. Fast, easy transaction and great comms. ...and a very nice man
7. Having just met the OP today and had the es-175 off him, I can confirm that: * This is quality gear at looney-tunes low prices * Paul's a top bloke
8. I reckon it was Pirates.
9.
I heard it, thought "that sounds like hard work" and left it at that.
Me too. Since November 23 1978. Kudos of the global kind, young ZBS.
10.
... he name drops constantly.
You should never name-drop. Brad Pitt told me that.
11. Butter. Small amount on a bit of kitchen roll,. Apply progressively and take your time.
12. Love the side-stacked 6x10 and 2x15 cabs on the home page. Just don't let BFM see them
13. Welcome - Niiiice avatar
14. Good to see you here mate. Wish I'd started early too.
15.
Ok leave aside the clothing you still have an attitude clash in your band ...You won't win because you'll not convince her that dressing down will further the band's move towards success, whatever she means by that.
Nail > Head.
16. Hot God-damn! Well, them Eurotrash really screwed the pooch this time! I thought General Jack Pershing killed all these gun-waving Mexican Federales in 1915, but he must have missed a few of them God-damn curry-eating Frogs!! Doesn't this General Franco realise that, if it wasn't for the US, he'd be speaking Jap right now? This kind of brutal official, unofficial free-lance mugging of innocent American citizens innocently employing an innocent dodgy driver WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!! I demand that our Commander-In-Chief, President Obama, despatch the Sixth Fleet to bombard Copenhagen immediately. Send these pasta-eating Berliner sonsabitches to Gitmo!!!! See if they like the food in Africa, yeah? And now I'm hearing rumours that the Spaniards would like Victor back as they'd like to offer him some slapping lessons! WTF?
17. Not exactly a full template but a quick fix. http://www.wdmusic.com/guards_bass_fender_jazz_bass.html Click on the specific one you want, then click again for the enlarged image Right click and save to your pc. Use an image programme to blow it up to size. Print out, if necessary using a printer with A3 capacity. If they haven't got the exact one you want, google "pickguard templates" - you should find one sooner or later.
18. It may seem slightly pose-y of me, but I a/b/c'd one of these alongside my 73 Marshall non-MV and my 66 blackface bassman. It sounded really, really good. Whoever buys this is getting a stone bargain. Bump-a-f***ing-roonie.
19. Interesting action on that. And the strings are quite high as well.
20. Gretsch came up with a solution: Unfortunately, involves affixing press-studs to the back of your axe, thus entirely defeating the object of the exercise.
21.
As you all probably know, tributes to AC/DC are ten a penny.
Not wishing to counter-assert - but are they? There's a surfeit of Jam, Beatles, Stones - but can only think of 3 or 4 AC/DC in the UK. Then, I'm probably talking bollocks again. Is it worth it? Well, only time (and some phone calls) can tell, but if you're going to be in the band, then their chances probably just ramped up significantly. As for his style - simplistic, yes. Locked tighter than anyone else in Rawk - even yes-ser. With B Vox.
22.
....The parents commented on fingerprints being all over the bass (!!), so I took it and polished it.
An argument for human cloning. Imagine how bass shopping would improve. (While you're at it, any chance you could nip round and change some strings for me? )
23. To redress the balance, here are some places, past and present, where I've enjoyed the the "customer / vendor interface experience": Musicmart in Canterbury (deceased, I think) / Peter Cooks, Ealing / Tempo, Ealing / Musical Exchanges, Birmingham in the 70's-80's / Langley Guitar Centre nr Slough / One Man Band - Banbury / Oxford Guitar Centre / Antones in Hull / Some little place under Snow Hill Station, Birm / Reverb, Birm / Hanks - Denmark St / Angel Music, Denmark St - he's frighteningly honest about his stock and good prices / Kings Rd Guitars - Fat Rick / Bass Gallery, Camden / Guitar Village Farnham / Oasis Music, Ringwood, Hants / Absolute Music Solutions - on the phone Some may disagree - like I say - swings and roundabouts. One of us had a good exp at PMT - I didn't, but, in the end, business was done, which is some sort of recommendation, I suppose.
24.
Please don't.
For 'worst-ever' service experience, I could recount certain events at a tea-shop in Kent.... ...but I won't.
25.
Oops, sorry if I upset you. The whole episode in PMT did seem a bit extreme, if not unbelievable. I know the manager really well, which was why I was so interested.
Thanks for the correction to your posts - appreciated. I thought the episode pretty unbelievable at the time, which accounted for my extreme response. If I get poor service anywhere - retail, travel, restaurants, whatever - I usually split and leave them to get on with it, reasoning they'll eventually put themselves out of business. But getting an instant faceful from someone you've never met before requires remedial action. I'm just citing this as the most extreme example of guitar shop arrogance I've ever experienced or even heard of. By the same token, I equally appreciate the problems retailers sometimes face in dealing with the public at large. Who was it? No names, no pack drill. He covered his side of the resolution and that's all that matters. Let's drop it now, OK?
