1.
Sorry but he's right, you're making this complicated not him. Why bother with a cab at all? Either DI and use plugins, or DI once you've gone through your pedals. People mic cabs because they like the colour they add to an otherwise potentially sterile recording, but if that's not your intention, the TV / camcorder analogy is correct.
why all this aggression? i'm asking a prefectly reasonable question and get all these ****Y answers. If you've nothing useful or positve to put on here please don;t bother to post go and take your aggression elsewhere please . Goodbye
2.
SWR electric/baby blue..also makes a great tube DI.
not made anymore, got to be currently available cheers
3.
OK so the problem you have is that the vast majority of bass cabs are not designed to be "pristine and uncoloured" and the ones that are, and are capable of rehearsal/gig volume levels, are very expensive. This holds to some degree for amps as well. I'm a little confused when you say you want to mic it up for recording as the design aim of such gear is that it sounds as much like a DI'd sound as much possible - micing such a rig up is a bit like investing in an expensive large screen TV and then using a camera to record the TV. In summary I cant see why you would want to mic a rig up unless the rig is actually adding some colour to the sound that you desire. So I'm left not really understanding exactly what you want, but having said that the phil jones route is probably somewhere close.
I want as clean and uncoloured bass amp and cab as is humanely possible so I then **** about with the sound with effects, or miking up the cab, or with effects in the computer, its really very simple and you are making it complicated!!
4. Yeah i want to be able to practise at decent volume and experiment with sounds, I may even go down route of miking up a cab etc, so I deffo want an Amp and cab, Yes i will be getting an audio interface too, I want a stand alone Amp and cab, combo or head and speaker ...
5. Dear bass heads I've asked a similar question but asking it again. I want to record bass and may Di but still need a very good quality amp for practise. What is the amp with best sound as it clean pristine sound. No colouration no distortion etc I can add all that later with a tech 21 bass fly rig! Pure clean tone bright punchy no low rumble I'm thinking phil jones maybe? Any recommendations? Budget? Up to £1000
6. You have plenty of Basses, buy a synth instead
7. Wal Custom Fretless, bought in 90's sold after I graduated to buy a car which I then wrote off!!! always regretted but now have a lovely ACG to keep me warm at night!!
8.
There's only ever been one and it was this one This is the Blueboy colour of the year but there were a batch of them that went out green. The most beautiful bass i have ever owned
I feel your pain, that is actually making me dizzy with GAS!!! I'm shaking.....
9. Lemmy;s custom Rickenbacker and his Murder one Marshall amp, turned up to 11! pretty angry I reckon
10.
REDDI I'm serious...
Anything else that does a similar job but CHEAPER?
11. maybe I should have said prefect recording amp ON A BUDGET!!!!!! Yeah ampeg fliptop is £2000 or more..... and I 'm not a pro.... Think I'll get a Hartke L500, lol!
12.
Ashdown LB30 (or CTM30 as they are now) would be my choice. Output transformer derived DI so you could stick a dummy load on it and record silently if you wanted to.
Thats a lot of notes, Ampeg 20 watt is cheaper!!
13. no south coast.... I've seen a couple of bits of tat on gum tree... I'm not in hurry something will turn up!
14.
Try a mid-70's WEM Dominator 25. I'm absolutely serious. With 15W of valve power you can achieve whatever degree of break-up you want/need at a sensible volume, and if you get a good one then the tone is just to die for. It's the poor man's Fliptop, and probably better value for money.
just looked on ebay, pretty expensive, but I guess a classic tone!
15. Dear night of the living bass heads I want to get a lovely amp SOLELY for recording and practising, not huge volume not required... having sadi that would a recording sound better through a huge 8 x 10 stack!!??? os is this overkill? Pure tone needed, so i'm thinking probably a tube amp? If so which one? New ampeg tube heads look nice but pricey... do I even need a tube amp? In past i've played through a Roland Jazz Chorus and loved that sound!! Any recommendations would be great, and please don;t say 'record DI' I intend to do that as well but want a decent amp to listen to...and record with Combo or separate amp and cab, is there any difference in sound? Budget I near you ask, well not £0000's ... dunno up to £500-600, maybe a tad more.... I want niceness
16. is that with stereo? always fancied a Ricky and the Walnut one is gorgeous, where did you pick it up from?
17. Yeah he really is all that, wonderful gifted player, a giant of bass, of music. .
18. Looks lovely! photos do not give these basses justice they are so well made, balanced, exquisite made for playing. .. I got mine for an amazing price in prefect condition and with 2 piezos giving it all sorts of tonal possibilities im still exploring!!
19. Because they are simply amazing!
20. brilliant , very Scott Walkerish, Bowie back on form, just really love his voice...
21.
Having been watching the world of bass for over thirty years, I feel qualified to state that there are always innovations and there are always new things happening. What is interesting is the direction of travel in terms of WHERE those innovations can be found. A lot of new ideas are difficult to access in the mainstream as 'innovation' is, more than ever, a niche market. The 'faster, harder, longer' brigade are always there; I call them 'the jugglers', making more and more noise with different techniques, slapping, tapping with increasingly complex patterns, different parts of the body etc etc. It sometimes feels like a bit of freak show (the guy who dresses as a schoolgirl etc) but there are a lot of people with interesting ideas that are grafting away in the corners of the internet or in genres that seldom cross anyone's path accidentally. I think every instrument has aperiod where the innovations are spectacular and fast paced but, as things move forward, the innovations become more nuanced and subtle. What interests me at the momemnt is where the bass is going to find itself in terms of it's use by composers. The whizzy playing is starting to eat itself (I can't watch bass soloists who are just being clever for the sake of impressing other bass players - it is so utterly futile and obvious to the listener. Clever but no artistic merit. What we need is beautiful and in context.
yeah that what I mean, all this tapping and 19 string bass stuff doesn;t really do it for me... stuff must be out there I;ve got to look harder!!
22.
zawinal, you want inspiration...
WOW!!!!!! how is that even possible!! yeah thats actually inspiring!!
