1.
The more time I spend on this bass, the more convinced I am it's the best playing fretless I have ever had, which given the number I've owned is quite the compliment!
i\ve only had my alan for a few hours and only played on it for a few minutes... its special...I feel honoured
2. pic added, not mine but just to keep you people happy!! More to come
3.
Excellent news. This is the bass with the piezo in the nut is it not? I presume the usual forum rules about pictures apply.
Yep, not quite sure how all the controls work, I will ping Alan an email... and congratulate him on just how well this bass has been made!!
4. Back in the day I foolishly sold my Wal for peanuts... Today I've just had delivered from Munich from Hannes,Kev Hopper's custom built ACG fretlesss in prefect condition. .. I've lost for words and have almost been in tears. ..17 years of hurt...and that wound is healed. ..its no exaggeration at least as well made and beautiful sounding as my wal, lighter, just beautiful. ..picks to follow.... one happy day
5.
Why do you need an amp at all for practising and recording..? Just asking; no malice intended.
because I have an electric bass which needs amplification!!!
6. Budget yes well up to 400-500 I suppose don't need power just sweet tone....
7. Hi peeps im a non gigging bassist just need a very clean amp to use with effects etc for practise amd recording in past ive used roland jazz chorus as that was so cryatal clear any suggestions. .. not interested in low thump only mids and top end singing. .. will use only active basses cheers
8. I really really want this (my 25 year old self in the 80's that is).... but not sure id use it or just hang it on the wall!!
9. Bit tired of rather boring chorus sound just wanted to know if anyone has used the Keeley double tracker on bass?
10. Have you ever played a Wal? If you haven't then you have nothing to say. I used to own one. They are exceptionally well built, beautifully made, and a deep rounded sound. I had a fretless it was sweet and no I didn't sound much like Mick Karn as I am not him but it did sound wonderful.criticisms are they are very heavy at least mine was, and a pain to play for a long time standing up. No other criticisms, they are very high quality and quality costs. I think you seem to not like the fact that Wal have a kind of aura around them that's somehow unjustified. Sorry but it is justified they are amazing instruments in the same way a minimoog is. They are legend. Deal with it. Are they worth the money? They are worth what people are prepared to pay and people vote with thier ears. A good rant, but you're passing in the wind, Wal are the dogs...regret selling mine. Getting a ACG which I hope will sound as sweet
11. I will get one.....for now I've got bigger (scottish) fish to go after
12. Do what that inner bass demon is telling you.... I denied that voice for months and eventually caved in. Treat yourself to a custom built bass you deserve it!!
13. looks like I've gone and got myself an ACG fretless beauty...... I'll let you know when the deal is sealed!!!
14.
Have you looked at Cort, Schecter, Spector, Yamaha, Ibanez, ESP (LTD), Aria Pro and Warwick for their mid priced fretless basses?
yup played a few of them, didn't like any... i'm a picky barsteward!!
15.
Yep, here's one for a shade over 50,000 yen, around £300... http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/u_box/e/select.php?cd=80-325680003 Even with shipping and tax that's going to come in at around £500... hmm.
not bad. How much would it cost me to get active pickups fitted to this do you reckon I mean cost of work. John east preamps about £200. Cost of fitting? Then ive almost got what I want!!!
16. Are you telling me no one has played one or owns one!????
17.
This is a very good suggestion, I have one of these on an ACG and they are very easy to get you head around quickly. Also worth noting If you want to try a bunch of ACGs then the Moffat bass bash is on 19-20 March
I assume thats in Moffat itself!! way to go from south coast!!
18.
If you'd have ordered that ACG when you started thinking about all this it would be nearly ready by now...
I know I know!!! Aaarrrgghhhh......
19.
Should have added to the above post that, in my opinion, a fretless bass really needs to speak to you, to respond to your fingers in accordance with the sound in your head, and to feel 'right' in your hands. I strongly believe that you have to do a lot of trial an error to find the right instrument (I've had over 20). Not sure where you're based but getting along to one of the BC Bass Bash events and playing a load of different instruments, some of which may also be for sale at much lower prices than you'll pay in any shop, is a good start.
This sounds like a very good idea, where are these Bass Bash events advertised!?? Yeah I need to try out a few, sort of 'know' what I need, I'm sure i'll find a few that fit the bill.... Wal freless i've owned and loved, want something that sounds similar, brighter, lighter, very slim and fast neck....
20. Just jealous wish id snaffled this beauty!!
21. I know I know!! A long email to alan is coming I think the universe is telling me to get an ACG!!how can I bare to wait 11 months though!!
22. I saw this on bass lounge looks wonderful but way over £1000 unless you talked them down
23. Just seeing these hitting the shops Anyone played one? any different from standard jazz's? Looks like very thin neck!! Z
