1.
I learnt this version. Trousers n'all.
Quite literally pissing myself!! best thing ive ever seen!!!
 2.
This is what a teacher is for. Good on you for trying though. I would also recommend trying to learn to read music properly, tab means nothing. If you're going to learn it from tab, you're already transcribing the rhythm, so you've done half of it yourself anyway! Why not try to figure it out yourself?
I think I need a decent tab which shows the rhythm and the music and somehow i'll work it out!! Its a horrible piece to learn!!
 3.
Wish I hadn't bothered.
Sorry I went out yesterday and most of today, I have pm'd you, cheers
 4.
I am super enjoying the irony of your user name and your request Not in a nasty way I hasten to add. It just made me smile.
You can't be on a bass site and call yourself jaco can you!? Zawinul rocks
 5.
That will be the one I have (somewhere). You all sorted then Z? Or shall I still have a look?
A copy would be great if its printable cheers!!
 6. Thats to sitting in front of Scotts bass lessons and online tabs I've learnt (at a very slow pace) the first 16 notes.... shiiite, its not easy, the very first phrase is quite tough! A fun exercise, i'll keep going....
 7.
Someone has to say it; if that's the kind of music you're into, you'd be doing yourself a massive favour by getting used to working with notation rather than tabs, or at least using it alongside them.
you are probably right but i've tried to teach myself to read music 3 times and I just can;t seem to make it make sense to me, what I hear doesn't translate to the dots on the page. Even with piano I can play 3 blind mice by ear , when i see the notes it means nothing... its some kind of musical dyslexia I think... Its a bummer as all the music I really like is very complex.... I will try and do as you suggest, have the tabs and music together see if that helps!!
 8. Dear bassplayers I've spent hours trying to find free bass tabs to Teen Town but cannot find any joy Does anyone have a copy which I can print off please and portrait of tracy maybe also? thats the next 6 months taken care of!!? Cheers Z
 9.
I'd like to think I'm playing great bass lines of the present, and great bass lines of the future will issue forth as and when the inspiration hits me Side note: I think it's high time I gave myself a bit of credit - it is not helpful for me to dismiss or play down what I have created. Thanks for helping me realise this. It still feels wrong (even un-bassplayerish), but hey ho, no-one will take me seriously if I keep being all self deprecating "I do OK" and "I can play a tune or two". I AM proud of some of the things I've come up with and damnit I'm going to keep coming up with more stuff!
thats good, thats how i want to feel!
 10.
Hence your user name . Have you seen the Joe Zawinul 75th birthday DVD ?
No, i'll have to check it out! I only managed to see Zawinul once with his band just a few years before he died, blistering, musical, weird, crazy, awesome, one of the most important musicians on the 20th C for sure
 11. Probably my favourite band of all time, I keep discovering new things in their music. . Its got immense groove and technically so complex on another planet really!!
 12.
Dear oh dear oh dear....all this from a man who has just received Shocker!
yes exactly it is wonderful. .. I think its jot the instrument its more my lack of inspiration in ME!
 13. I mean don;t get me wrong i love the bass and certain tracks get my juices flowing... this for example http://jazztimes.com...ort-s-teen-town maybe its me... I'm just not feeling very innovative right now.... right more pedals....
 14. just listened to this live version of teen town, Theres a lovely synth sound to some of this , I know in the studio ZAwinul doubled the bass on synth, but this sounds unlikely here, I wonder if anyone knows what pedal is being used? amazing playing, Jaco was and will always remain the best player who ever lived!! http://jazztimes.com/articles/170475-excusive-premiere-weather-report-s-teen-town
 15. I mean in terms of styles we've had finger style, funk, slap, reggae, fretless, metal, tapping (which I hate!!) to be honest I'm not hearing much innovation around but maybe that's just the inherent limitation of a 4 stringed instrument. .. Stuff done on 6,7,8 strings also doesn't interest me it just sounds like bassists may as well play guitar whats the future? are we just doomed to play the great bass lines of the past? Personally for me the only answer is to make the bass sound as unlike a bass as possible or play a synth! Am I just bored of the bass?
 16. demos please are they any good? thinking of getting the juno one!!
 17. I got this eventually, its just amazing... so much scope to sound, it can get very weird with the 2 piezo's haven't really got to grips with it yet!! Beautifully made a dream bass http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/243/
 18.
Sorry, maybe I wasn't being clear enough. I, too, have electric basses which need amplification (despite being a drummer...), but I practise and record using a headset, plugged into an interface, into my PC, and can get a very clean tone that way (I'm not interested in 'grind' or 'dirt'; only clean, and being direct, it doesn't come any cleaner than that..!). When rehearsing with the band, I use an amp and cab (still clean, of course...), but don't need that for playing the bass. I'm not trying to be facetious, just wondering if your needs differed in some way. Sorry if it comes across badly. Why do you need an amp for practising and recording..?
ah I see your point. I may do direct recording but I also want to listen to myself playing through an amp and effects so just want a decent clean amp
 19.
PM him on here, his user name is Spoombung. Eude
O Great cheers!!
 20.
It has both, piezo in the nut and the bridge. The nut one was used to produce some unusual sounds. Talk to Kev about it he ordered the bass.
Both!! Have you got Kev's email address please i'll find out!! Cheers
 21.
What would be the reason for putting the piezo in the nut rather than the bridge please?
not sure , i'll ask alan when I email him later!!
 22. its this baby http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/243/
 23.
Extremely elegant that bass. So I take it this is filled the void in your life then?
it's taken a few months of research and getting advice on here, but yes I've found 'the one' I just can;t believe how well made Alan;s basses are, simply the best instrument i've ever had... I feel blessed and glad i listened to everyone on here!! now to find a really nice amp to make it sing even more
