Hellzero's never ending story. It's all about naked ones...
Hellzero replied to Hellzero's topic in Gear Gallery
This was my special ordered EUB. It took Christophe LEDUC (and I at the delirious ideas) 7 years to finish it. It's therefore an L series. It will never leave me. If you understand French, here is the link to it (with my ugly face somewhere) : http://www.leduc.fr/index.php/series-l/basses-de-la-serie-l/164-l-09-la-u-contrebasse-moai If not, here are some informations about it : This EUB is based on the free floating top U-Basses. So, I needed an EUB at the time I ordered it for our duet. I went completely nuts and this U-Contreabasse, as my friend Christophe calls it, is the result of my madness. It's called Moaï because it reminded me of the legendary statues of the Easter Island. Now the fun part : the whole instrument is made out of one piece of very old Honduran mahogany (it just cleared Christophe stock 😁 ) with the floating top and harmonic bar directly crafted in it, which is a no mistake process... Then he added the two little wings to close the "body". The fingerboard is made of ebony with 6 EMG magnetic pickups (the same as the ones found on the NS Design EUB's) at the very dusty end of it, and integrated in the fingerboard. There are also 6 RMC piezo pickups in the French maple bridge and the main preamp is from Richard McClish too.The controls are simply volume and tone for the magnetics and the same for the piezos. These controls have been mounted through the output jack routing !!! It can be fitted with standard length double bass strings (this EUB has a standard 104 cm scale) through a clever system at the back (a bit like on the NS Design) or NS Design/D'addario strings. The top has a trade secret soundpost too. I can get very very very close to a double bass sound and really emulate it with a very little bit of preamp tweaking. And it's a real pleasure to play even with 6 strings tuned from an amp killer low B to a very high C. It has a complete two octaves (and even a bit more if you dare) fingerboard. Yes, it is and a fretless sixer is also ordered. -
Goodwood Festival of Basses... (Bass Photography Thread)
Hellzero replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
Jealous of my thread Russ ? My pieces of wood are here : So, what do I win ? 😁 -
There is also the Eventide Space (Reverb) : pricey, but does all you're asking for, @Graham. https://www.eventideaudio.com/products/stompboxes/reverb/space

Also check the JAM Pedals Waterfall as there is a model dedicated for bass too. Not cheap is the least you can say, but once you've heard it, you'll throw all others to the bin... https://www.jampedals.com/waterfall/

Will do so tomorrow. It's been a strange day today...

I can name each of them if you want. They are in total alphabetic and chronologic order too. I'm a bit of a maniac when it gets to classification.
-
Of course it is possible. Theoretically... 🤣

Kalium also has great balanced sets. Worth looking at it, but be prepared with mismatching during the packing as it's more than a habit by them. https://kaliummusic.com/shop/strings/electric-bass/hybrid/balanced-sets/

Are you going to put (back) a Jazz Bass pickup ? Very nice job so far. 👍 -
Traded a bass with Lukasz. Everything went smooth and easy with the usual glitch with DPD not finding my address again, but I went to the depot to pick up the bass. Great communication all along with Lukasz. Highly recommended. A++++++++++++++++

Sold Ben a Delano Sonar 3 MS/E preamp with a pair of Delano SBC 5 HE/S Driver. Ultra fast payment and great communication all along. A pleasure to deal with.

QUICK POLL: Terminology smackdown - Pickguard or Scratchplate?
Hellzero replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
That often is a poolhider, in fact. 😁 -
On the face of it quite tempting but is this legit?
Hellzero replied to Painy's topic in General Discussion
Is it Glovy P-Bass Man new attempt to win truck loads of money ? 🤣 -
Tuners (machine heads) are period correct. Bridge too with the longer screw for the G saddle. Some screws of the pickguard (scratchplate) are simple wood screws... There are two different types of side dots at every position : black and clear !?! The rest has already been said. Sold my fully original 1970 Fender Precision Bass with all the goodies and original hard case for less and it was a good price (to me). Forget this one : too expensive and uncertain.

QUICK POLL: Terminology smackdown - Pickguard or Scratchplate?
Hellzero replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
Eng Land, literally home of the Germanic tribe called the Angles. You are going deeper underground. 🤣 What is called modern English is a mixture of old Germanic (~70%) and Norman-French (~30%). Cursed or doomed ? I'll leave it to you. 😁 -

And the southern part being French. 😁 -
Funny as everything in this thread is just summarised over, but not correctly understood. Construction includes material, shape and anything "making" the instrument. Maybe I should stop summarising too much ... sometimes. The pure scientific approach has always lead to a tonal catastrophe when building instruments and you all know that. That's why real luthiers (even the very few making electric instruments) always tune their woods and use multi secular knowledge to achieve their building, and rarely inovate... There is no magic in this. The wheel has already been invented. If you rely on science only, you'll end up totally assisted, not even knowing how to breathe. And the process is well engaged...
