Priceless . Only on here could such a justification even be considered.
I know!

Well, not quite, but I used to have 2 gen3 super compacts and now I have a two10. Very different IMHO. The 12's are very neutral, what goes in, comes out. That's what they are supposed to do. The two10 is more 'voiced' like other Bass cabs. Again, that's what it's supposed to do. There's also a bit more natural top end in the two10 vs tweeterless super compact. I prefer the two10 out of them. To my ear, with the same amp it took less EQ to get the tone where I wanted. The difficulty I encountered when using the super compacts was that they sounded SO different to what I'd used in the past, and the two10 is more traditional sounding. I went to Barefaced for 2 things mainly, the Low weight and High power handling. What I wasn't really prepared for was the drastic change in tone from the super compacts. With the two10, I've got what I wanted regarding the weight and volume capability, combined with a tone which is much more like what I was used to. Winner for me, YMMV!

Yup the polytune clip works fine, if it has to be clip-on. Never had any issues with a TU-2 or TU-3 (set to Bass mode) either if you're considering pedals.

Just commenting on the 'precisionitis' thread got me thinking I really need to shift a couple of my Jazz Basses. The difficult part being obviously deciding which to try and shift. List as follows: 1975 (YOB) Fender Jazz - Natural with maple fingerboard and pearl blocks 2015 Fender USA Geddy Lee signature 2016 Fender Flea Signature 2008 Fender Roadworn Jazz in 3TSB (modded to stack knobs) All very good Basses in their own right and I kind of justified them all at the time by having 2 with 60's Pickup spacing and 2 with 70's spacing. I don't 'need' to sell, but I probably 'should'. But which? I know ultimately it'll have to be my own call, but I'm interested in how others would feel in the same position..

Same here really, I have 2 Fender P's, 2 Yamaha Attitudes (Basically precision Basses) and 4 Jazz Basses. I play the Jazzes and really enjoy the sound of them, but for me there's something about the way a Precision feels straight away that is just right to me. Put my thumb on the pickup just behind the screw hole and I'm instantly happy. I really should shift a couple of the Jazzes, but they are all great in their own way. Deciding which to let go would be difficult.
To stop the neck dive when playing my EB3 (shorty) I pass the strap under my belt. This will also help stop trousers from hanging down on those with no arse to keep them up.
What a great idea. Well done sir!

Cheers lads. Do me a favour and remove them eh?

Played through an Ampeg 8x10 last night...
And carrying a flight-cased SVT and flight-cased 810 is something that should be avoided. Trust me.

I second this.
Third! -
Result! And good to hear that there was 'method in her madness', even if only her was thinking of that. I can't say I dislike her idea, but it would probably only come from someone who doesn't need to play a guitar. And all this talk of Yamaha Attitudes... quit it! I have been strangely attracted to that thing for years and I always manage to stay away. You're making it hard... especially after I saw just how good looking the sonic blue is!
I've actually had 3 Attitude Basses, got a s/h SFG ltd 2 a while ago which turned up locally, that got sold on after a few years of use., missed it terribly and ended up buying a brand new black ltd2 back in '09, and then most recently got the blue ltd3, which showed up in the marketplace here! FWIW, i do think the ltd3 is hugely overpriced RRP, but s/h I think they represent outstanding value for what IMHO is essentially the best Rock Bass in the world!
Let's face it chaps, if you're in a prog band fronted by a girl, your audience will barely notice there's a band behind her, much less what you look like or are playing...
This was something else I pointed out during our discussion last night!

Gutting, but it sounds like you're doing everything you can to get the word out. Hopefully it'll pay dividends. Sincerely, best of luck.
Use whatever instruments that sound good for the band in live gigs. Looks do play a part in the band so, for photos and videos, you should use gear that looks the part. Gives the band a cohesive image. When you're rocking on stage the punters won't give a crap if the guitar is a PRS or a Les Paul, they'll be too busy enjoying themselves.
All completely true, well hopefully for the last bit!
They may also be some non-serious comments, the way you talk about it.
We are good friends, and you're right, a lot of what's said is general p1ss taking, which is fine, we all give as good as we get generally, and it works for us. This issue is slightly different though, there was no concern about the sound of the attitude. It was all about how it looks.. Like I said above it's all sorted now, after a chat last night, I will be using whatever Bass I want to. Who knows, maybe it'll turn out to be a Jazz after all!
I would suggest to them that you will use one of your other basses for photo shoots and publicity stuff.
This is actually a very good point. Did actually use my '75 Jazz for the video we did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GF_MENE7lY

I've always wanted an RH750. I have a BH250 kept as a backup / rehearsal amp and it's always been great. Only really use the standard spectracomp toneprint and it's excellent. So much so I bought the spectracomp pedal for my board.
Some males, when meeting other males, need to show who is the pack leader. You can snarl and challenge, roll over and show your belly or sidestep. Tell him you've ordered a new one and it's in the mail (which never arrives) or use humor. Tell him his bird likes your deep throbbing bass just like it is.
Well, I didn't want to bring this side of it into the discussion really, but the main person who dislikes my Yamaha is the singer, who is a young lady (well, young compared to me anyway). Her husband, who is the drummer, doesn't care what I play as long as we nail the songs every time. And for a prog crowd, that's obviously what's important. Anyway, after last night's vocal rehearsal and subsequent discussion, it is apparent that I can use whatever I like. She just wanted to have an image of a new, modern prog band, fronted up with old style guitars. But as it turns out, the guitarist who has a PRS is also preferring to use that so it's kind of a moot point now...

LewisK1975 replied to julesb's topic in General Discussion
Sound-wise, has anyone actually compared a Barefaced eight10 to an SVT810? The Barefaced is 36kg. That's just over half the weight of an ampeg (140lbs / 64kg). I know you can get Ampegs for relatively small money these days. That's one obvious advantage, but in the weight vs 'heft' (sorry) debate, where we stand when it comes to Cabs? EDIT: FWIW, I think if we'd all have 810 setups if we didn't have to do the lugging. I know I would. -
So, what do you think brought you to the bass?
LewisK1975 replied to Dazed's topic in General Discussion
My mate was (and still is) a guitar player, and as a pair of spotty 13 year olds, it was him who suggested the bass to me, he wanted to have a mate who played bass, and I was the tallest mate, I think he had a perception that all the best players were tall. His old man bought and sold stuff, and I got a Marlin Slammer Precision copy for £25, and here I am nearly 30 years later, with 8 very nice Basses and 25 years of gigging behind me. -
I wrote a book about being in a covers band
LewisK1975 replied to Dave Vader's topic in General Discussion
Don't know if I already mentioned this, but I 'paid forward' my copy to the hotel myself and mrs LK1975 went to on honeymoon last year. So Dave, there is a copy of your book on the bookshelf in the Rendevous resort, St. Lucia. No Doubt, it's a lot warmer than I am right now. -

Thanks Guys for the all the inputs. I had a feeling the topic might be of interest and I'm genuinely grateful for all the opinions. As it turns out we're having a vocal rehearsal tonight, and I intend to bring it up. It's certainly valid that I'll be most comfortable when playing the Yamaha, which in turn as said by a few above, lends itself to a better performance. I'm hoping this angle will sway it. There's been a few messages bouncing around this afternoon and I've touched on it there, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise when I bring it up. Back when I have more news!
I had this with a blues band years ago - I had a rosewood coloured Cort C5 at the time, and they tried to get me to change to a Fender. I took the "f**k them" attitude and stuck with the Cort, but after a short while I got kicked out. I guess if it's not your band, you need to be happy with this being a possible outcome. I was gutted at the time.
I don't think I'm in danger of being kicked out, it's just more of a case of it seeming to be more important to those 'in charge' than it is to me. You're all giving me food for thought though, maybe I'll re-approach the subject with the BL.

Got the Flea Jazz, that's PINK, albeit subtle, haha.
Out of interest. What's the guitarist/s using? My earlier reply was a bit flippant. I do actually get the colour thing.
1 of them Strats for definite, although the other one has been bringing a PRS to rehearsals. But I know he has access to other guitars too. Girl Singer has a strat too.
