1. That is just breathtaking . Good call rounding the headstock.
2. Ahhh, that brings back memories!! I gigged one for years and loved it - as did every other band-member and punter who saw it lit up on stage like a Blackpool Illuminations tram. The individual pots controlling each speaker output on the back were a nice touch. This one looks to be in good condition.
3. How-about-an-early-Xmas-present-type bump.
4. For what it's worth, here's a quick summary of what's working for me nowadays: Genzler Magellan 800 + 2 x BF One10s Works great in my mainly '60s/'70s covers band - nicely rounded, controlled vintage sounds with my Seymour Duncan Studio Bass permanently on, set as recommended for light compression unless otherwise required. I think the combination of a relatively clean amp with the warm 10" drivers works well. The bass I use is an active Maruszczyk Elwood 4 with medium-gauge rounds. Ashdown RM 500 EVO + BF Super Compact Gen 3 A nice set-up for the 7-pc original-material band that does everything from folk-rock to latino-style world music offering a wide range of sounds that always cut thru the mix. Apart from volume, tuning and switching, this set-up is pedal-free - I generally dial-in small amounts of compression and drive on the amp and reserve the 'secret weapon' (pre-shape button) for special occasions. The bass I use is a passive Mensinger Cazpar 4 with medium-gauge rounds. Obviously, all of the above is totally subjective but I've found two set-ups delivering distinctive core sounds that suit me - different but equally pleasing. Also, you'd struggle to dial-in anything truly un-usable on either rig and I'd happily mix and match equipment in both bands if necessary subject to a bit of control tweakery. Oh, and last but not least - you won't come anywhere near a hernia carrying this lot. Must say I'm chuffed - and it's only taken me 53 years to find it!!
5. Not sure why it's taken me this long to get an Ashdown head given that it represents the real continuation of the Trace Elliott brand that I played - and loved - for decades. Maybe it's just that amp technology had moved on I felt the need for something different. For whatever reason, they never presented themselves to me as a desirable piece of kit - but they certainly do now. Ashdown seem to have managed to embody the spirit of the old TE stuff while evolving to keep up with the changing market. My active Maru' Elwood sounds particularly sweet (to my ears) thru the RM + BF Super Compact.
6. In a recent post on another topic recounting how generally pleased I was with the RM 500 EVO I'd bought from a fellow BCer, I included the following negative comment: "Only thing I can fault is the relatively noisy fan - not really a problem in the gigs I do but is that normal?" This was picked up by Ashdown, who promptly posted an offer to replace my fan foc, acknowledging that a few amps did go out with noisy fans before the problem was sorted. To cut a short story even shorter, I gratefully accepted the offer, sent the amp back to Ashdown, they received it yesterday - and it was delivered back to me THIS MORNING complete with a new fan!!! The fact that Ashdown took the trouble to monitor this forum and volunteered a free fix to an owner who didn't even buy the amp new is just astonishingly, astoundingly, unbelievably awesome: respect! (Btw the fan is now as quiet as on any amp I've ever owned.)
7. Fan update: Ashdown received my amp yesterday and I've got it back TODAY complete with a new fan that's as quiet as on any amp I've ever owned!!! So, just to recap: they've monitored this forum, spotted a passing reference to fan noise, and volunteered an foc fix to an owner who didn't even buy the amp new. This is just astonishingly, astoundingly, unbelievably awesome: respect!
8. Had both mine done. The first one would probably have been fine and I would have risked it rather than go to hell - but the second one definitely wouldn't. It was done by a different guy who was much more clumsy and recovery time was longer.
9. Welcome to the forum! Here's hoping you are able to buy what you want (and sell what I want ) on here.
10.
Hi Mike, that sounds like a great idea - given that, I live up near Stonehenge and I see that you are in Somerset, whereabouts roughly?
Taunton, not far from J25 M5 - pm me if that's any good to you. I've got 2 x One10s and a Super Compact Gen 3.
11.
Hi Guys, thinking of pulling the trigger on either a Barefaced Two 10 or 2 x One 10's - appreciate any thoughts that you may have on the subject. For reference, I play in a 3 piece rock covers band, (drummer is fairly loud), and I like to have a more "edgy" rock tone that I can hear. I play both finger & pic style and use a MB Little Mark amp. Btw, I also wear ear protection. Not looking to be stupidly loud, just nice defined bass tone that I / the audience can hear. Cheers.
Whereabouts do you live? There may well be BCers local to you who would let you try out your bass/amp thru their BF cab(s). In fact, I seem to remember that Alex at BF has a list of customers willing to do just that. You can only get so far with forum advice as there are just too many variables - not least what each of us considers to be a 'good sound'.
12. Gotcha - so, the "siblings" are the other 10" multis and the Two10 really is designed to be used in the vertical rather than horizontal position.
13.
AFAIK only the x10 cabs have the filters.
Quote from one of Alex's earlier posts on this thread: "We low pass filter one driver on the Two10 (and continue that with its bigger siblings)..." I take that to mean the 2 x 12" cab's.
14.
We low pass filter one driver on the Two10 (and continue that with its bigger siblings) because they're side by side. Vertically stacked drivers combine well in the real world - there's a reason line-array PA systems are so popular!
Alex, there appears (to me anyway!) to be a contradiction in what you say. With a multi-driver set-up, you state that a vertical arrangement works better than a side-by-side one - which I get. However, fitting two sets of rubber feet to your multi-driver cab's suggest that they are designed to be used in either orientation; in fact, the orientation of the 'Barefaced' logo on the Two10 cab suggests that it's actually intended to be used on its side - hence the need for a low-pass filter on one driver. But then, why do your 12" multi-cab's, which are obviously meant to be used vertically (emphasised by the placement of the BF logo) still have a low-pass filter on one driver? Why don't you just specify that all your multi cab's should be used in vertical orientation (obviously keep both sets of rubber feet for storage purposes) and do away with the low-pass filter?
15.
Sure! It's as Alex described: in its simplest terms, you get a bass boost that fattens the sound up. I do try to keep my posts as jargon-free as possible, but sometimes you can't avoid it.
Thanks, and no criticism of your 'jargon' content intended btw. I find all this stuff about speakers/cabs interesting and am trying to increase my understanding if it.
16. Thanks for your detailed post Stevie, much of which regrettably goes over my head. Could you explain how this relates to the subjective reports from the OP and others (me included) that stacking a couple of One10s produces a much more enjoyable sound than using one on its own? (Sorry mate, on re-reading this it comes across as a bit flippant - which it's not meant to be. I'm just trying to understand.)
17. The 12" driver is the same in both cab's so each one should be capable of moving the same volume of air (unless the slightly different BB2 enclosure makes a difference - ask Alex). It really depends on whether you want the different high-frequency response offered by the BB2. In any case, if you are not quite happy with what you have, you need to find a cab that suits you better - from BF or another manufacturer.
18.
No 'kind of' about it.
Certainly does - I'm surprised he doesn't do this for a living... no, wait a minute!
19. Having 2 x One10 cabs myself, I can confirm all of this! My 800w Genzler Magellan switches down to 2.7ohms and I'm tempted to replace my SC G3 with another One10 - one = good, 2 = better, 3 = even betterer
20. Haven't used pedal but 2-position factory-set tone-prints on TC amps are compression and octaver. Next most popular is apparently tube effect.
21.
But isn't the One10 8 ohms?
Yep
22.
We did have a batch of fans that were noisier than we would have liked it was caught quickly but there are a few out there, if it's troublesome we would be happy to swap the fan out for a quieter one for you. You are free to pop in and we can sort whilst you wait or if you want to pop it in the post we can sort and ship back to you. Just let me know. Cheers.
Thanks for your generous offer, which I am gratefully accepting (pm sent) - as market awareness and customer support goes, it just doesn't come any better than what you've done here
23.
Yep, took a 3-page thread for me to realise I like what I've got, I just want more!
Makes sense to me - it's what I've done and appears to be the preferred route for BF owners on this forum generally. If money (and storage space) were no object I'd get a second SC and a third One10.
