2. Mmmmm - I like my TE is the best too but like the idea of a brand-new Eden for £269 with the warranty and reliability. Worst case would be buying something used and then having to spend money fixing it. That's what happened with the TE I have - mind you, it's been perfect ever since!!
3. Thanks Dan and Paul. Just tried the Eden E300 that my local shop is doing at £269 new. They lent me their demo for our practice last week and I was quite impressed - certainly good value for money, though fewer bells and whistles. I'm tempted...
4. Hi, I'm looking round for a back-up for my TE 300 head. Does your Ashdown deliver its 300 watts at 4 ohms (in other words using my TE 1 x 15 and Ashdown 2 x 10 cabs rated at 8 ohms each)?
5.
I've recently gone back to a Trace head - RAH-300-12 SMX - after some years of using Class Ds. Tone is very subjective - some people hate them, some love them! But, like you, I find that pushing in the pre-shape does everything I want a bass amp to do. The amp I have kept as back up (right up until I can get another Trace head that is similar) is a TC Electronic RH750. To my ears it sounds the closest to the Trace sound of the amps I have tried (GenzBenz Streamliner, Markbass Tube 800) and also it is nearly as loud. Doesn't make me smile in the same way, though. I'd be interested to try an Orange Terror Bass as a direct comparison but haven't got one yet.
Paul, just had a look at the TC Electronic stuff - very interesting, especially the features: 3-button memory, on-board tuner etc. Trouble is that 750 Watts is too much for my cabs (2 x 10 at 250W and 1 x 15 at 300W, both 8ohm). The RH450 might be better for me - any idea whether it sounds generically the same as its bigger brother?
6. Can anybody advise what head (pref used) would be a good backup for my TE AH300-SMC? I love the Trace (really sweet with the pre-set on and a touch of compression) and have used nothing else after buying it second-hand 6 years ago. I had it repaired/serviced/checked by EMS as it developed a noisy volume pot but it's been totally reliable since then. It's just that I'm starting to feel the need for an insurance policy! I play a selection of short-scale basses in a covers/functions band and run the Trace through a TE compact 15" cab and a same-size Ashdown 2 x 10". Btw I've ruled out an Ashdown MAG300 after reading bad reviews regarding build quality.
7. Might appeal to any British Bulldog owners among us... 8. Very tempting that is - looks like a nice colour match for my Fender Rascal!! Not sure about the 18 frets though..
9. Excuse me while I go and throw myself off a tall building... but, wait! If I did that, I wouldn't be able to play this again.
10. Hey David - never touched a Wal, have zero interest in them, so can't be bothered to read all the posts you've generated. Just want to say that I LUUUURVE your OP - since I was a kid, I've always enjoyed seeing a big, fat bubble getting burst!!
11. How nice is that?!
12. 'fraid not - don't suppose you're planning a trip down to the West Country any time soon?
13. Just caught up with this thread. Thanks everybody, especially joeystrange and lowdown.
14. Hi j3ster, my basic question is: given the 'travel bass' description and single pup + volume pot design, how well does it perform in gigs? Fyi, the stuff I play is pretty middle of the road, mainly '60s/'70s covers, so I'm not looking for a massive tonal range. Also what condition is it in functionally and cosmetically? Moe pics would be appreciated.
15.
Please!
+1
16. Mike, does the bass have dot fret-marks on the top edge of the board - and what's the fret-board radius?
17. Thanks for that - vintage stuff and good quality vid too. Four guys at the top of their game!
18. Hey Will, I've got one of these and I love it to pieces!! "]http:// Surprised our fellow bass-chatters aren't forming a queue for yours because whoever gets it will have a fabulous and unusual bass.
19. I've had one of these for a few weeks now and I absolutely LUUUURVE it!! It delivers an incredible range of sounds and they're really accessible thanks to the brilliant control set-up. I've been gigging short-scale basses (mainly Gibsons) for years but this is by far the best s-s I've ever played. The overall feel is one of quality and substance, balance on the strap is great and (to me) it looks superb. This baby and my Hofner CT Club make the perfect pairing for the functions work I do.
20. Don't have a 'best ever', more a number of equal-bests. Most have already been posted but surprisingly no mention of The Nice - their version of America still blows me away. Remember seeing them live during Davy O'Lyst's brief spell as guitarist - his wah-wah-pedalling rendition of Little Arabella was brilliant!
21. IMHO, the only trouble with bass solos is that you suddenly loose (and miss) that low-down, rhythmic groove that (with the drums) provides the framework holding the song together. Essentially, the bassist is quitting his/her post and trying to do somebody else's job. To relate this to some of the vid's already posted: Beck and Miss Wilderbeast = gratuitous musical gymnastics; for most of the time, melodic chords from the keyboard were the only glue holding stuff together (I still wouldn't want to try and ban it tho ). The Weather Report number left me thinking: "Fabulous stuff, Jaco, but can we have some proper bass underneath that as well please?!"
22. Price now £500 - will consider trades for short-scale at equivalent value or lower plus cash.
23. Yep, that looks like his clean-shaven face - and he's got a 'horn on!!
24. EBS Classic 60, and I love it. Compact, light, nice sounds thru its 10" speaker. Saw lots of good reviews before buying.
