1.
Did it!! I tried pulling out the spikes, but it's just the plastic rectangular cap that slides off one pair and then over the other pair right?? Amp still works anyway.
Thats right. Ive never done it but i do have the PDF that shows clearly how it looks before and after. It also shows how to change the effects loop so it runs in series. 2. After getting a HW-one Jazz i no longer need my CV Jazz, but as i dont get on with P necks im keeping the neck to put on a P when i get one. So, i know its a very long shot but i was wondering if anyone fancied swapping CV bodies. I dont really like the VM bodies (mainly the bridge). The body is perfect condition, the bridge has some discolouring but nothing that effects the stability. Everything is stock and working 100% I would also except a better, maybe MIM body (even without a pup) but must have a bridge and electrics. Nothing that needs any bodywork or finishing though. I would like to keep this all in UK mainland for posting etc. Cheers.
3. Im also a CV Jazz owner and love mine, although i dont tend to use it any more. For me it was a cheap way of getting back in to Jazz basses, as ive had a bad experience recently with a DJ5 so wasnt sure i would like the Jazz tone. I dont expect ill ever need to use it again but thats fine, as its the neck that im going to hold on to. Its one of the nicest playing necks ive ever owned and im not going to let it go. It will probably be on a CV P this time next month. Oh yeah, and my CV Jazz seems to have less quality issues than 3 MIA jazz basses i had over the past 6 weeks.
4. Its been at my house for a few days. My 6 year old loved it but it was a bit heavy for him so sorry about the dents and delay ;-) Glad it turned up. Im sure its going to be as good as the 2EQ. Oh, and big congrats getting that job. Well worth all the effort and time you've put in to get it.
5. Cheers for that. While the 25watt is hot enough ive been finding the temp has been fluctuating quite a bit recently. Sometimes it takes 30secs just to melt the solder. It seems it will only stay at its hottest for a few secs then cools down a bit. Probably broken as it used to be fine. The tip is clean and shiny though. To be honest i dont do a lot of this stuff but i can tell the last few basses have taken longer due to me having to wait for the iron to reach a high enough temp to do anything with it.
6. Cheers Luke. Ill have a look around the local hardware shops on the way to Maplins tonight. Funny you mention about not being able to heat up the parts. Ive been having that trouble. Not a big deal but it has been taking me longer than i hoped. I put it down to the iron only being 25watts so got a 40watt iron yesterday, ill see how that goes tonight.
7. No problem. I thought you might say that, that's why i waited. I too find the Sad a bit "boring". It does what it does very well and people swear by them but i think i want something that will give me a tone i cant quite squeeze out of my bass using just EQ. I did have a VT Bass for a short while but found that was a bit too much. So, Mike if your up for it im happy to trade, and if not still open to offers etc etc.
8.
There's a mute switch, where ?
LM tube. Sorry, i wasn't clear. I meant it took them long enough to put a mute switch on one of their amps.
9.
You're just jealous coz you haven't got "SULTRY EXPERTISE"
I saw loads of that at the wedding i played on Sat. Almost too much if that's possible lol.
10. Its really not good to post in all caps. Its the equivalent of shouting. Why not post this in the bassists wanted section? Why not familiarise yourself with the layout of this forum rather than just jumping in head first. You might get more replies that way. Welcome by the way ;-)
11. Cheers. Ive been using it for a while but its a tube i found at work, so i didn't actually buy it for this purpose. Its always seemed to work but thought i would check to see if there is anything better worth getting.
12.
Oh yeah *slaps head* hmm, teal's probably my least favourite of the colours they come in, but might still be interested...
Mine was that colour. Ive never really liked teal but it sort of grew on me.
13.
No Squier love at the moment???
Plenty here, just no love for Harlow I am interested but dont have time to get your way at the moment (full time job and gigs/family time at weekends) Would you do it a bit cheaper without the case?. Not looking to haggle you over the very decent price, its just that i have a spare case and a small flat and so dont need/have the space for another lying around. Hmmm, my sister lives in Harlow, where about's are you?
14.
..what's the colour?
Check his signature ;-)
15. Another basic question. I ran out of solder last night so need to pop to Maplins to get some more today. The stuff i had was the lead free variety. Is this a good one to use or should i be using something else? This is what ive been using Solder Cheers.
16. Or even the Fender Duff McKagan Precision Bass. I almost got one a while ago. Not in the same price bracket as the Squiers though.
17. Cheers guys. So as long as both are wired in the same it doesn't matter what lead goes to earth and hot? This is the first time ive changed just the one pup so i haven't noticed this before. Good to know though.
18. Ive just put a Wizard Jazz pup in the neck position in my HW-one. It works fine but when i have both pups on (stock pup at the bridge) the volume drops quite a bit. I reversed the black and white wire from the Wizard and it seems ok now. Im guessing the pups were out of phase. I wired white to white and black to black as the stock pup was wired. Looking at both the Fenders and Wizards they do look like the black and white are reversed, not sure which is correct though. Does it matter what colour goes to what lug, as long as both pups are wired the same? I do plan on replacing the bridge one later this week but wanted to hear how different the 74 sounded in the neck position.
19. Ive read that wiring the jazz pups to series will get closer to a P. This is how the S1 switch works. If you want a P tone you HAVE to have a pup in the correct position IME. If you want a tone that can sound similar to a P then im with all the other posters here, a Jazz will do it. I used to hate to toppy, clicky Jazz tone but after playing a few (and only a few to be honest) ive realised that not all Jazz basses sound the same. And the one ive owned that has had the deepest, warmest tone happens to be my CV Jazz, although i do have wizard 74's in it. I love my new HW-one Jazz but it has what i would call a typical Jazz tone, it has loads of growl, low end and a nice high end with the tone knob wide open. The CV Jazz is much warmer, definitely doesn't sparkle as much but has a lot of kick in the mid range, and i guess closer to how i remember my last P sounding. I think the CV J is a good starting block. Its not too costly and easily upgradable for not a lot of money.
20. Well I'm no expert but I would say if you like the p tone you miss that with the jazz. I'm the same but I did want a jazz so I don't mind. I've put in wizard pups and that's got me a bit more thump but In my experience a jazz will do the job but won't sound like a P. This is why I'm getting a CV P as I do miss that P thump. I wouldn't bother if I didn't have the jazz neck already, and I like my HW enough to not want to spend a lot on a P but I think if you want a P tone you need to get a P.
21. I also thought they were XL's when i got mine but i was pointed to a large thread on TB explaining what was going on. I look forward to hearing what you think of it as im still very tempted to get one.
22. Good news.
23.
Hi Dave, I have a Sansamp Bass driver, virtually as new, in box, if you'd like to trade. How do I make sure it's a mk 2 ? Best Wishes Mike
Hi Mike. The MKII has the three switches on the top, the old one only has one. Im happy to trade if you do have the MKII and want to but i would like to see what Stephen wants to do first as he asked first.
24.
Okay - I summumbed and now have a lovely white CV Jazz on order. MOR Music in York will conduct a full set-up when it arrives and are even going to change the strings to flats for no charge (AND give me the stock strings in case I want to change back to the XLs it comes with). So, for £299 I have a lovely bass a setup that would probably have cost me £30 and a set of strings that would have cost me about £25 too. Take that GAK!
Nice one, im sure you made the right choice. Just be aware those strings are Fenders, not XL's. Made by the same company (D'addario) i believe but they are definitely Fender strings.
25.
Hi, I have a para driver maybe tradeis, i don't have a use for the para driver as much and us it mainly with the blend control off and set to on board pre-amp when using my jag. Mid at 3.2khz about 1.5 o'clock and bass at 3 o'clock. How much more useful/better is this sadowsky di? Thanks Stephen
Hi Stephen. To be honest I think the sad will be less useful to you. Other than a DI it's more just a active bass and trebble booster. It's not really a tone shaper like the Sansamp stuff. Saying that, it does what it does very nicely, it's like it adds more lows and highs without really changing the tone. Apparently it works best with Jazz basses rather than P basses Not really much more to say about it, although there are lots of people that love it. I just find that I want something that will change my tone more than just enhance it. I'm happy to trade but suggest you have a look around the forums etc and see what other people say about it. I doubt you will find any negatives but it may also not be what your after. I'm in no hurrry so let me know what you think. Cheers.
