Thanks Will, and thanks for the offer although i wont be able to get to you. I have also emailed Andy to get his advice but of course the more replies i get the easier it will be to get a better idea of each pup.

Im pretty much decided on one of the above. Im not really sure what to go for, although im more in favour of the Thumper (due to its name). I dont really want a hot pup, certainly nothing like a SDQP. I was just wondering if anyone has experience with both. I know certain people on here use one or the other so i would also like to hear from them. Also anyone (like Neil) who has upgraded the stock CV P. How different did it sound to the stock one? For what its worth im playing standard covers, no metal but a lot of 60-70's stuff, as well as current songs. I know it sounds like the Trad is the way to go, having that vintage vibe etc but if the Thumper has more thump, that also appeals to me. I also love Fralins so if anyone knows which is closer to one of those then thats the one ill go for. Im really only interested in Wizards at the moment (unless anyone has a Fralin for sale). Another Squier convert here. I too have felt ive been spending to much on basses recently. This time last year i was playing a Lakland DJ5 and to be honest i never liked the tone i got form it. Ive also had two Duck Dunns, a Fender P5 a 55-01, SBMM Ray34, Sub etc. Earlier this year i was down to just a CV Jazz and loved it. I must admit i got a bit fo GAs and got a HW-one Jazz, after finding MIA's we pretty poorly made. The HW-one was all i could ever want from a Jazz and its the first Jazz ive really, really loved. But then GAS hit again and this week i got a CV P. Now this bass is the winner for me. I got it as a challenge to try and get on with wider necks, and in this respect i wanted a cheap bass but its now going to be my only gigging bass. The Gallery are going to put a Fender Vintage bridge on for me as the string spacing is slightly wider on the Squier than is the norm for Fenders, and it needs re drilling to fit. Other than that, its perfect.

Its funny but although I gig every weekend, and feel confident enough to not worry about anything while im playing, the moment we do a sound check through a big PA (and so have people in the room) i go to pieces and my fingers almost feel like they cant move when its my turn. Very strange.

Im looking to upgrade the bridge on my Squier CV P as i want a different string spacing. I got a set of Vintage saddles but unfortunately they dont fit the Squier bridge. So i need a new bridge. I was going to get the Fender one but i saw this Wilkinson one and its a lot cheaper. As i already have the saddles it doesn't matter that it doesn't come with grooved ones. Ive not heard of Wilkinson before but they seem pretty decent, and cheap. Any comments etc? [url="http://www.axesrus.com/axeBassh.htm"]Wilkinson bridges[/url] Cheers.

If it was that wrong to do people wouldn't come and see you, and there would be no market for it.

You also find the same basses turn up time and time again. Which is good as if you miss it the first time you still stand a good chance of getting it next time.

Its all down to people realising how good Squiers are :-)

[/quote] Yes. 8 1/2 lbs (8lb 8 oz). It feels like a toy lol. I did this on our post scales at work so its pretty accurate. My CV Jazz is 9.1lbs but this was on our bathroom scales at home, ill re check it tonight. After some more playing, and going back to my CV Jazz i can now definitely feel a difference. Not a big deal and one i hoped for as this will help me get to grip with P necks again.

Oh, and for the record, it weighs exactly 8.5lbs so its pretty light.

My HW-one has much more growl and punch to it. Thats not to say the CV J isnt a good bass, its just not the tone i wanted/expected. Ive not tried the CV 50P. I just wanted a standard P tone for now. I will try one one day though but im not sure how different the tone is to a Jazz with just the neck pup on. Its some thing ill look in to when the time comes.

If i could afford a Fralin i would definitely put that in but i really cant afford a pup that costs half of what the bass costs. I sold one on here earlier this year that i got for my Duck Dunn and i really regret it now. Im probably going to go for either a Fender 62RI, a vintage (as used in their MIAs') or a Wizard Thumper. Ill get a few gigs under my belt with it first. It sounds pretty deep already. I do like the red better than the blue, but White or Black would be so much better. I would have said it was more Salmon red than Fiesta but i dont really know what Fiesta is supposed to look like unless the CV P is spot on. What a year its been. Started off with a DJ5 but sold it pretty quickly, then went back to my HW-1 Jazz, then traded that for a Sub and at the same time got a Duck Dunn. Then sold the Sub and got a Ray34. Sold the DD and used the Ray34 for a few months. Sold that and got a CV Jazz. Tried to get a MIA and ended up with another HW-one Jazz, and now ive gone back to a plain old cheap P. And at the same time ive had the same two bass rigs for 4-5 years. It never ends.

My CV P just arrived and i think im going to keep it as stock for a while. Pots seem good and they feel better than the ones on my CV Jazz for some reason. I will try a new cap, and definitely a new pup but i dont think ill be in any rush to do either.

Very strange and i too would never had thought it was different. In a way this si good as im already at home on it, bu ti was hoping for a challenge so i could conquer my issues with wider P necks. First impressions were yuck, what a horrible colour. This was the one thing thats put me off getting one for ages. But as soon as i plugged it in to my Korg Pandora (in the toilet at work no less) a big smile spread across my face. Its sounds fantastic. Im sure its just the P tone as ive been playing Jazz basses this year but its the tone ive been missing. set up seems really good, although i will change the strings tonight so might have to do another set up on it. Fit is good, there is a tiny bit of paint flaking off the body under the heal, right on the edge, but im not going to worry about that (road worn already, bonus). The pup is leaning forward. Im not sure if thats a problem or not but as it sounds great, and string to string volume seems good, ill leave it for now. So again, a Squier out of the box seems better made than the MIA's i had.
