1.
. On the basis of the youtube clips I wouldn't pay to go see X-UFO I'm afraid.
I have seen and heard a lot better, but not by an tribute type of band. Then again, this band dont sound great either ;-)
 2.
Agree with the post where packing up too early is a little unseemly- especially on a wedding gig. Don't do it people this will piss loads of paying punters off.
Agree with this. We always walk off stage/playing area and giv eit 5mins or so before coming back and breaking the gear down. I've always thought it looks a bit rude doing it the moment the last note stops, certainly at functions etc. As for pubs, well i guess thats another world. I still cant get over the amount of people who dont seem to help out with the rest of the gear, unless you're depping of course.
 3. I used to be a huge UFO/MSG fan back in the day. I still love listening to the old albums but i must admit to not following the various bands/member's since the late 90's. I do have a live at the BBC (IIR)recording and there are so many mistakes (for an establish pro band) that i sort of went off them live. i didnt realise all this was going on so thanks for posting the video clip, and to Kev for the heads up about the live dates.
 4. Bugger. I started reading this thread just to see what people thought of this head, and you can guess the rest
 5. Its a shame i never really got on with mine when i had it, i do now regret selling it. Not keen on the Skyline colours though, i still prefer the Black sparkle
 6. Although i dont have them any more ive had 3 over the past 7 years. An original HW-1 Jazz, a HW-one P and a HW-one Jazz. Loved them all. The first. This was the bass that replaced my Squier JV P. I went out looking for a red bass and out of all the red basses in the Bass Centre this one played and sounded the best. The HW-one P. Horrible pick guard. I only put it on to see what it would look like. I hated it. I sold it on here and last tiem i looked it was all black, even the hardware. This was the bass i settled on when i couldn't get a decently made MIA back in 2010. I sold this on as although it was a better bass i actually preferred my CV Jazz neck.
 7. Doesn't anyone stay and help pack the rest of the gear away any more
 8.
What's he supposed to do, play it out of tune fer chrissakes?
Make sure he does all he can so it doesn't interfere with the flow of the gig. If its constantly happening with just one guitar then i would expect that guitar to be used as a back up only.
 9.
Pah! I like the attack, the definition and the control, especially combined with palm muting. And there is a rich heritage of talented pick players... Paul McCartney, Carol Kaye, Joe Osborn, John Paul Jones, Chris Squire, Sting, Rick Danko, Bill Wyman, Jack Bruce, Roger Waters, John Deacon... the list goes on! Be proud! Having said that, I will play finger style if it suits the song. Don't like it, though.
Oh, i am proud, i just find some songs would suit finger style better. Funny but i can play Rio finger style fine, but not all shook up I do like the filters though, and i think these are why ive stuck with MB for the past 7 years, excluding a few moments of madness.
 10.
secondly - electric shock therapy for the guitarist. This may include running ample amounts of current through the tuners of his 'axe' - he'll soon stop fiddling with them. g.
Or get him one of these http://www.gibson.com/robotguitar/
 11.
I can sympathise with this. Bad enough to be tuning between numbers, but there's no excuse for doing it audibly!
And still being out of tune lol.
 12.
Also, I only ever play with a pick, which of course introduces another set of variables.
Me too. As much as i'd love to play finger style i just cant manage it :-(
 13. I just start playing the next song. Ive actually work out quite a few intros that are normally played on guitar but the bugger takes so long to start them that i now just tell the drummer what we are going to play and we get on with it. It is very embarrassing when both singer and guitarist are tuning up (audibly in the singer/guitarist's case) and then need to take a swig of water, one after the other.
 14. While i also have mine set up like yours i do think that if the VPF is used (much) it will cut the mids and so wont help in getting the tone the OP is asking about. Then again my cab is so middy ive never noticed a lack of them no matter what setting i use.
 15.
thanks for the reply. when you say leave the VLE and VPF off, do you mean at 12 o clock?
No, 12 is half on. 0 is off, all the way to the left.
 16.
Try to audition a Tech21 VT Bass pedal, It will give you a whole new palette of rock tones and works a treat with LM heads.
I found just adding a BDDI made a big difference. The VT Bass will take it to another level. I had one but found it was a bit too much for what i needed but the BDDI adds just enough, with more on tap. These pedals seem to work well with MB heads.
 17.
The 'our version' chestnut! This used to bother me with a band I was in. The keyboard player always trotted that out as an excuse for not learning the part properly or not being able to do it properly. You end up with a set full of homogenised junk with all the highs and lows knocked out of it.
Youve been to my gigs then ;-)
 18.
I spent a whole afternoon perfecting the bassline to 'The Seeker' by The Who, only to find that the drummer was playing something completely different to the original version, when I asked him he said it wasnt important to play it to the record. This caused a complete racket as the bass and drums clashed, so I had to play 4 to the bar instead. So the moral is, if you have to play it note for note, make sure your drummer does too!
Happens to me quite a bit. This then makes the song "our version", which to me means its a cocked up version that hasn't been re arranged, its just that someone couldn't be bothered to learn it and so we all have wasted our time
 19.
They then do a cover of a someone else's well known song, but with a slight difference, which makes identifiable as them doing it. Smooth Criminal by Animal Ant Farm comes to mind. It's often down to arrangement.
In a band i used to dep with we were once asked to do the Michael Jackson version of the Alien Ant Farm song at a wedding. I kid you not
 20.
We as musicians also seem quite hypocritical about covers. If a covers band move away from the original it's seen as a sin, but if an established act decides to do a totally different cover of a song, everyone raves about how great it is. Why can't a covers band have that freedom too?
My thinking about this is that if i go and see an established band (i assume you mean originals) then im going to hear those songs, not covers. If they throw one or two in, in their own style i probably enjoy them. If i go and see a covers band then im expecting to hear songs i like and know. I dont mind if they deviate a bit, and would expect it, but some bands go way off tangent with covers, to the point that they loose the original feel. I would say we (or actually some) musicians feel they need to make their mark on everything, or they think they can do it better, so do change things, not for the better, but so they can feel they have been "creative". It doesn't always work.
 21. I try and get as close to the original as i can. If im struggling then ill just get close. I wont spend hours on it unless the bass line is very integral and distinctive. The way i see it is that most people wouldn't or care or know if its slightly different, but i'd like to think it as close as possible and that ive done a good job on it.
 22. When you right click on a word and get the menu come up it should give you the option to change language. If this isnt there you may need to download the English (UK) dictionary. Just go to tools/addon's and follow the links. I get different results from both my PC's. one has as ive described above but the other has some other strange word checker as well. Not sure where that came from although it might be to do with the spell checker i had installed for IE9.
 23. Im useless at tabbing otherwise i could help out. We used to do this a few years a go, always went down well with the wedding crowd's
 24. Ive not found them too uncomfortable but there is quite a bit of pressure when you first get them. They need to be pretty tight and do sit on the ear so i guess they arent everyone's cup of tea. I also have a pair of Senn HD215's and these sit over the ear and when i use these they now feel too loose as im used to the HD25. Mine loosened up pretty quickly and now i can easily watch a film with them on without any discomfort. I do find my ears sweat a bit after my walk to work with the standard ear pieces on, but mine also came with the softer velour ones. Be aware that there are a few different versions around, i'd avoid the cheaper SP versions as they use different drivers and have a different headband. Nothing wrong with that but if you can stretch the budget a bit more you can get the full blown versions and i dont think any of us here are talking about the SP version. As Gareth said, The HD25-1 basic edition can be had for around £140. By Basic it just means no extras.
 25. We have had a few of these threads recently and the HD25-1 keep coming up. I was in the same boat as the OP and just before Christmas got myself a pair. What can I say, they tick all the rigt boxes and as they aren't overblown at the low end I find I can now hear things I've not heard before, other than outside noise. I work in a print room and these have been a godsend. The only regret I have is that there is a iPhone specific set coming out, with the remote in line, wish I had waited.
