1.
not so handy for mid song patch changes though...
If you are using a small rig you could use your bum to change patches
2. Fantastic news, thanks for the info and brightening up a bloody cold day.
3. In case anyone is interested you can download the manual and pre-set list from here. http://zoom.co.jp/products/ms-60b/downloads/ Cant wait to get one. Bye bye Paradriver
4. My Paradriver will be up for sale the moment this becomes available. I'm sure it will have its faults but it seems to be exactly what I've been looking for over the past few years. I don't rely on any pedals at the moment so I won't lose anything if they don't work out, but it will be very handy for at home if nothing else. Not too impressed with the bass on those demos though. Very sloppy sounding action.
5. I used to love Marillion, other than Fish. His style really put me off after a while and i stopped listening to them. I was never in to all the earlier Prog w***fest type of stuff, but if im honest Pete T. was a bit of an influence on my playing back then.
6. Im pretty sure it was the wood rather than the pups. Everything just sounded a bit deeper and warmer than i would have liked. Even with a complete new set of pups on it it still had that underlying tone. I will say though that when i got my second Duck Dunn I didn't like the Hanson in that, so swapped it out for a Fralin.
7. Mine had Hanson's in it, and then Nordstrands, but i always felt the tone was too mellow and warm. Compared to all the other Jazz basses ive owned (not that many) it just didnt seem to cut through, nor did it as a P bass. Of course just before i sold it i started to love it and would now love to still own it.
8. Having owned both at the same time I have to partially disagree with you. My Spirit has probably done 30+ gigs (yes, back in the late 80's without any issus. My Jack ended up being sold off cheaply as the bridge/tuners fell apart. I'm not sure if there is a difference between the hardware on both, I couldn't see any, but the Spirit always sounded and played better.
9. Or for a more traditional take on the headless bass, how about a Spirit bass. The neck has a 1.5" nut but is quite deep, so it feels more comfortable in the hand. My 8 year old finds this a lot easier to play (badly at the moment) than my Jazz bass. It just seems more manageable, and definitely no neck dive. 10. Funny you should say that as i thought it was the worst sounding bass i'd owned. Seriously, i never clicked with it, not as stock, not as a PJ. A filed experiment on my part. Now i want it back lol.
11. I love that look. I think black on back looks much nicer than a white PG. This is my old one
12. I gave in a kept mine lol.
13. I'd be more worried about gear going missing during the packing up part of the evening. Keep a close eye on everything that night and dont leave the cars un locked.
14. No, neither can I unfortunately.
15. I get the feeling that some are separating feel and tight playing. You know you can have both ;-).
16.
mmm yes but the ipad doesnt come free with it unfortunately, it always says that in the small print the smart burgers i think thats just for the ipad/iphones unless someone knows of one for android
Lol. Try typing "iRig for android" in to google and see what you get ;-) That was easy.
17.
The thing is that when people get to a certain level engrs can't pull them up on it ..or daren't... but you wont get a studio gig with that sort of playing in the first instance... I think it will mix down ok but you woundn't be happy to be solo'd ...and there would probably be a lot of fixing which again is time and money which some people wouldn't or couldn't spend.
Agreed. I bet there isn't many of us that would do a take in the studio and leave mistakes or bad timing in it without wanting to try and fox it or doa re ake, even if it did sound ok in the mix. Sloppy can work, I should know as that's my style , but so much is made about "in the pocket", "locking in" etc I'm can't imagine not trying to get things as good as possible. Live is another matter though.
18. Well a gig bag would have cost me £5 postage, that's much bigger than a small pickup. That doesn't make sence. I'm well aware of Marks good rep but if I feel the mark up on postage was a bit much, unless I'm missing something. Can't fault the level of service though. Agree about the Fralin, it's the third one Ive had and the best P bass pup I've owned.....again.
19. Another +1 for Bass direct. Just got my Fralin pickup from Mark in less than 24 hours. I was a bit put out that they charged me £7 P+P when the bag has postage of only £2.60 on it but business is business i suppose.
20. Ive got a maple Lakland JO4 neck on my Squier CVP. Best necks ive ever played. Agree about the look of the bridges though, while they dont bother me as much as, say the ugly G&L headstock's, i do prefer the more traditional Fender look. Oh, and ive just brought a Fralin for it as well :-)
21. Ive used Jeanies Pickguards twice for my Lakland's and their prices worked out cheaper than getting one done with Simms over here. EDIT: Just wanted to add that although there was nothing wrong with the Simms one i had to post my original PG to them, and this of course added to the cost.
22.
Why is it always assumed that "thin = fast"?
Its not, there have already been a few posts discussing what fast means
23. Pay just enough to get a bass you feel works. I sold my Lakland's and now only use Squiers. For me anything more costly (assuming i just want passive P and Jazz bass) is a waste of money and id only be paying more for the cosmetics. Ask yourself what do the others give you. The MIA's are great basses (although i prefer the frets on the CV basses) but for the money what do they offer over the cheaper basses, that matter to YOU. All are P basses, all sound like P basses etc etc. So, from the original list my vote goes to the CV, although i think the Matt freeman is much better looking.
24. Good news then. I really like jamUP, although i now prefer Ampkit. Although Amplitube was the first of this type i never really got on with it, the two big issues i had were the iRig and the fact that you had to load converted tracks in to it before you could play along to them.
