1. I hope this sells soon. I keep coming back in here to look at it and thats not good news lol.
2. I can help with that. Here is the Lakland page with full spec's. http://www.lakland.com/44-02.htm
3. Thanks for the rely. This is a bass ive been looking at for a few years but have never actually wanted one (i had a 55-01) Maybe now's the time to change that, although im torn between this and the 5 string version on here. Good luck with the sale, with the U-Retro im sure this will be snapped up quickly.
4. Can i ask if the Lakland Pre has selectable mid freq's?
5.
I did :-( with a ray34ca, it had to go back, the neck/frets were a wavy mess that wouldn't set up and rattled no matter what you did. Gutted
Yeah, it think it was your post on TB that i remember.
The neck appears to be based on the MM Sterling, SLO Special Stingray and Big Al design - there are not issues of this type with those basses and I've personally not heard of issues with these - they seem to get praised by most people. Have you tried a Sub SBMM - half the price and sounds very Stingray to me - the walnut one looks particularly good - they appear to have a narrower neck profile also (not sure if it's the Ray 34CA profile though).
Thanks. I do like the look of the new SUB's, and yes, that Walnut one looks very good (not sure its available over here, although im sure someone else will) but i like the idea of a tinted glossy neck with vintage frets rather than satin finish with med. Jumbos frets.
6. Cheers Fran. Seen it, and the others, even the German one . Now stop tempting me and make me see sense (and no, that doesn't mean the Sandberg lol).
I had a CA in sunburst with the maple neck and the bass was spot on. I changed the tuners for Schaller ones but the stock ones were fine. I never noticed any problems with the neck and as I very rarely used the G string, I didn`t notice if it was weak.
Good to know. Im sure the majority are fine. I remember thinking this might be a bit liek the MIM Geddy Jazz neck. A few people have said its too thin and bows too much but on the whole they are fine.
7. Cheers guys. I am really only interested in the CA version. I was more that happy with my old Ray34 other than i felt the neck a bit uncomfortable. I did find the G to be a bit weak and changed the pup for a Nordstrand. That helped a bit.
8. Oh, that reminds me of the weak G sting issue. Hmmm, not sure now.
9. Oh, the P and Jazz aren't going anywhere. Fran is right, i have GAS rather than need but the Ray34 CA is a bass that ticks every box other than price. Also want the Sterling thats on here, and the 55-02 in the link above lol.
10. Even worse, tempted by Jimi's 55-02 :-( http://basschat.co.uk/topic/186687-lakland-skyline-55-02-deluxe/
11. ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss :-(
12. Thanks for the reply. I had a Ray34 with no issues at all but the CA has a narrower neck, and i have read at least two people had issues but im hoping. expect these were isolated incidents. Im looking at Thomanns if i do order. No issues with sending things back and they pay for the courier. Easier than buying from a shop for me and i get 30 days to decide if i want to keep it.
13. Im thinking about one of the above (just thinking right now) as ive always wanted a narrow neck, vintage fretted Ray. Ive got my eye on a Sterling on here but TBH i love the idea of the vintage frets and 2EQ. It ticks all the right boxes although i know they aren't cheap, but im sure ive read a few posts complaining about the neck twisting or bowing? Any thoughts/experiences? Cheers.
14. Oh you know, some good and some bad days :-) Hope your keeping well and the band are doing great. I'd love this bass but its a bit out of my price range right now. i still miss my old 55-01.
15.
Hi Dave, yes its more of a Jazz neck width. The train from Paddington takes an hour and I can meet you at the station and take you to my house to try it (its a 5 min drive) if thats more appealing? Or could just do the deal in the station car park (thats what I did with my last sale). Have a think about it
Oh i am. Getting the train is no deal breaker at all. I dont have the funds for a week or so and im sure this will be gone by then, but if not ill try and sort something out. Of course i wouldn't expect you to hold it as this is just a GAS attack so i might come to my senses lol. Would you take PayPal? The reason i ask is i was planing on using a credit card to pay rather than cash. Cash would be a problem unless i can find some way of getting cash off the card first.
16. This is lovely. Am i right in thinking the nut width is more Jazz than P? Would there be any possibility of posting it to London? I could get a train out to Oxford ( i dont drive) but thought i would ask. Cheers. Just having a but of a GAS attack at the moment. Ive wanted a Sterling for a while but never really considered one in this colour.
17. Oh my what a gorgeous bass. Nice to see you're still around Jimi, good luck with the sale.
18. Yeah, congrats on a great performance and on getting hitched.
19. I see no need to ever get another P bass, expect for looks (still fancy another Duck Dunn). My CVP is a P bass, sounds and plays like a P bass and cost less than any other bass ive owned in recent times. Sometimes i feel people get too wrapped up in all this vintage/boutique lark and spend £1000's to get a tone that can be achieved at a fraction of the cost.
20.
So it's illegal to copy music, copyright infringement applies to instruments, but it's okay to copy an amp sound - say which amp it's meant to sound like - then sell it? Confused?
Do you know that the companies doing so aren't paying royalties or a licence fee to use the names? Who are you talking about?
21. Good thread. This is the one song (well, main one) that I've never been able to nail properly. We've been playing it for years and it sounds fine, but it's always bugged me that I can't sit down and work the notes out. It's not that I wouldn't be able to, it's more that i just can't seem to find a reason other than wanting to without a need to. Good luck with it.
22. NICE BASS
23.
I tried a set when they were first released into the market and the freshness dropped off quickly for me too. First impressions last and I will never use them again.
Same here. Very bright when they went on, two gigs later they sound quite different. In my case I don't dont sweat or play particularly hard, and it's not usual for my strings to loose their tone so quickly. Saying that, I'm not really giving them a negative because of this, I felt tey were a bit too bright to start with so I was a bit relieved they lost some of that. For me it's just the fundamental tone I don't like and I've taken them off to keep as spares. For reference dive put some year old DR Black Beauies back on and I much prefer these, at least tone wise. This is my second failed attempt at using EB stings so I think I'll give up trying now.
24. I remember getting a Fender Deluxe double gig bag a few years ago. Of course it was bloody heavy with two basses in it but what got me was the position of the metal clasps on the straps. Nearly cracked my Collar bone.
25. Your preaching to the converted on here. These CV's and MF basses seem to punch a step or three above thier price range. A nice black MF is one I will own one day. As much as I love playing my fiesta red CV I really don't like the colour. Call me boring but I prefer black or white basses. For me it's the necks that make these basses. I don't know about the MF but the CV's have vintage frets. I just love this size of fret and to get such nice necks at this price is amazing. I don't really like P necks so I have a Lakland neck on my P but I still prefer the CV jazz neck, if only they did maple jazz necks. Enjoy your bass and welcome to BassChat
