Lucky escape by the sound of it. Been in "the business" all their lives, but still only semi-pro? Probably a bit crap then as well as being t*sspots.
Wow, that was quick. I know for some its the standard BC answer but i would have thought a few good posts would have been before this. At least Gust0o got in first with a decent post.
Not sure about the Jazz's but.. I just recently had a standard-wind Fralin singlecoil put into my 51 P bass At first I wondered what was going on, playing with the band I had to roll the volume and tone knobs right back on the bass, where with the stock pickup I had both wide open (that's me and P-basses) to achieve roughly the same clarity and bottom end. The Fralin's seem to have a lot more response and are even sounding over the strings and a little smoother with the highs, even tho there are a lot more brittle highs on tap. (almost too much) That's how I have found it on a singlecoil P-bass.
More or less my findings as well. Had my first one in a Lakland Duck Dunn and was amazed at how much the tone and volume knobs worked compared to my previous basses. My second Duck Dunn came with a Lakland pup and i felt it lacked the magic of the first, so i got another Fralin and the bass came to life. Ive been thinking about getting one for my current P bass but cant afford a new one this time. Ive never tried the Jazz pups but i cant imagine they would disappoint.

The output was fine. I didnt actually move anything last night. No dials in the software, not on the JAM (although that was already set up for my basses, i have a pice of tape over the dial to keep it in place) and not the output from the ipad. Im sure it was a bit too loud but i was in a hurry so didnt mess with things. I had just downloaded and reinstalled the software so everything other than me changing to the bass amp was at default. Have you checked the input and output meters? Are they peaking? I found in the past it was the output level that caused me the most bother.

I just used headphones (good ones, not the ear buds). My jazz also has wizards in it although they aren't too hot. I can't think of anything else to suggestet, good luck tracking down the problem.

Ok, ive just tried it and it sounds fine. This is the first time ive used JAM with this software and i was quite impressed how much better Amplitube sounds without the iRig. I played both my passive basses though it using the default bass amp and got a nice strong tone, no hint of the distortion i used to experience with iRig. This is on a iPad 2.
-
No problem, ill do it as soon as i get home tonight. I too had the iRig and never really liked it. In fact back then i couldn't get a decent clean tone with Amplitube no matter what i did. At the time Amplitube wasnt compatible with the JAM type of interfaces, im assuming it is now.
-
Ill give it a try tonight and let you know how it sounds. I dont really like Amplitube but i do have it. I too much prefer AmpKit as it has Trace Elliot and Ashdown rigs in it.

Not sure if its too late but we do a good mix of the above, probably more 60-70 based but do cover all era's. Most of the band are based in North London so its fairly local as well. http://www.blowup.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

My second ever bass (Ibby Blazer being the first) was a black Thunder 1A. I actually dont remember much about it other than it sounded great at the time.

Ive had one for a couple of months now. Its the best comp ive ever used, but at the same time its the most transparent as well. Im not sure if thats a good or bad thing, especially at this price. I want to hear it lol. I did have it up for sale but have withdrawn it for now. I dont need it for my pick playing, which so far has been 99% of the time, but im trying to go 100% finger style and for this its really helping even out my bad technique. ill hang on to it for a while yet but will have sold it by the end of the year.
-
Yes, definitely a difference. The bass had more body to it, more low end punch and just sounded better IMO. Saying that, i dont have the Thumper in any more, I have a Fender Original 62RI and i much prefer this pup. Its not quite as dark sounding, but still a big improvement over the stock pup and sounds more "woody" to my ears, while still having a nice low end thump.

Ive still got mine, its my only gigging bass now and i cant see it going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

how long should I wait before I start asking for moderator help?
To be fair, we don't know what's gone on behind the scenes. Presumably the OP does, and he seems happy enough, so maybe it can be filed under 'extenuating circumstances'. Forgiveness is one of the more pleasant human traits.
I agree, its done and dusted. What i cant get over though is that the guy had visited BC a few times during this time. The only thing i can think of is that he forgot how to type . -

Having just read thought this thread i tend to agree with the old fashioned bloke. Yes, its a good outcome for the OP, but it should be remembered that the other bloke had been on here more than once without any contact with the OP, knew what was going on as he had been messaged by a Mod and ignored it. He gave the OP a hard time and if not for the wonderful help of a few people on here the OP might never have got his bass. There is no excuse for not keeping comms open, and the fact that he had visited BC on a few occasions tells me he could have got in touch if he had wanted to. Yep, im old fashioned as well. PS. I do hope there is nothing too serious with the guy, in not completely without feeling, but there is no excuse for his actions (or lack of them) IMO. -
Does thin = fast? Thin is about size, fast is about your technique.
Exactly. Some people find thin necks too cramped and this slows them down. Some people like jazz necks but with a larger front to back depth, some prefer fretboards with a more rounded radius like 7.5", whereas I find flatter 10" feel faster to me.

My Squier CV jazz neck is one of the best I've owned. I find the vintage style (as in smaller than normal) really helps. Same goes for the Lakland JO neck on my CVP. That has banjo frets on it so again, a nice fast neck and a nice low action, and also a Jazz neck. I'm not saying a jazz neck makes for a faster neck than, say a P, but as I feel more comfortable on a Jazz neck that's my preference.

Yep, i was at that gig, definitely my fav as well. Although we lived in inner London me and the GF had a free nights stay in the Hilton through her company. We got totally wasted on the free bar before the gig. Good times. I also saw a "secret" gig they did at the old Hammersmith Odeon. The stage was set up like an old western bar room and it was a very cozy feeling gig.
Yeah, i think they did play Lola. amazing day out. i really liked Live before going as well so that was a treat. their throwing copper album is a goodun I was a mega fan of jovi in the slippery, faith, jersey days. Then they released These days which is a utter masterpiece and then went down hill from there IMO
Ah yes, Live. I remember really liking them as well, i think i went and got their album the next day (i did the same with The Dan Reed network after they supported BJ a few years earlier). As i said in my first post i thought BJ were quite lacking compared to the earlier gigs but maybe it was also the fact that Hyde Park was not a good place to see them for me. Like you i was a big fan during the early years, but i can take them or leave them now but i do enjoy the old songs still. Loved their version of Dont like Mondays with God Geldof.
Jovi are awesome live. I saw them in hyde park back in around 2003/2004 and the band "live" supported. Really good. Jovi played over a 3 hr set which is incredible thinking of the vocal range he has to perform and his age. I saw them at coventry and Nickleback supported them which was pretty nice. they get loads of grief but are a decent stadium band as well. they even covered cowboys from hell!!!!!! Do it, go and see them, they wont fail to impress, and the crowd will be full to the brim of cracking birds desperate to get in jovi's pants. So get the old blond wig, 30 inch waist 501sm, and denim cut off waitcoat out and party!!!!
You do realise that the OP is not a man dont you ;-) I think we might have been at the same Hyde Park gig. Was that when they played Lola with Ray Davis? EDIT: I see you do, ignore the first bit :-)
