1.
Apart from the man himself, does anyone know who JTUK plays for? I've seen lots of posts from him about various gigs but not the name of the band and I don't think there's a link on his sig.
Im pretty sure he posted some live footage in a thread on here a while ago. IIR it was some YT footage but i could be wrong. Maybe check out the live video thread. My current (10 years this year) band are called Blowup. Link in my sig. Nothing really special but its helped me see a lot more of the UK, and funded some rather nice purchases over the years.
2.
Gents. We're looking at a stereo recording from a hand held recorder. Goldwave is free, has all the basics and will split your large recording into smaller individual songs. Maximize volume, do batch conversion to mp3, add reverb if you want. Allow you to add fades. You can zoom right in to individual samples. Very good bit of software.
But not available for Mac.
3. EDIT: Ooops, sorry, i was making two posts at once there. Yep, i was just going to post the same thing, although ive gone back to using a real BDDI as i find it easier to adjust. I did get my B3 as a cheaper alternative to the BDDI, and its got loads of other pre amp type things in it. If nothing else you can get to try out the other options for the price of one box.
4.
I think I want a sansamp VT bass DI, but can't find where I'd buy one? Anyone help me where I'd get one at the mo? I've got a behringer bdi21, but just wanna upgrade a bit... Any other recommendations?
I did the same a few years ago, but the VT is quite a different sounding pedal, and i went and got a BDDI instead, then a Paradriver, and now back to the BDDI.
5. Cheers. Funnily enough i was looking at that earlier. I could stretch the budget but what i noticed was the 0 latency seems to be on or off, whereas the M Track has a mix control. That will be a lot more useful for me.
6. Some of these are PC only aren't they?
7. I master our gig recordings using iZotope's Ozone mastering suite. This makes a huge difference to the output and its almost like it doesn't matter what container program you are using, as this does it all. Although i use Adobe Audition i dont use any of the EQ or built in FX.. Its not that cheap though.
8. Even though mine have had numerous pup changes they still have the original wire and pots (other than one i damaged) in them. Actually the pots are really nice IMO. When i tried to replace the one i did damage i had to go through about 5 CTS pots to find one that was as smooth as the origianl pots. Ive gigged my Cv's (mainly the P) almost every week for the past few years, never had any issues with the tuners. I take it out of the very thin gig bag, tune it up if its needed, and thats it until the nest gig.
9.
But really, that is not a sensible way to spend and extra 300-odd knicker is it. Get a second hand Fender Japan or USA Jazz, then you can be sure you have quality wood and construction and the neck won't banana in the summer.
I love the CV necks, IMO that is the biggest selling point, for me at least. I actually find them more comfortable, and nicer to play than the MIA's ive had in the past. Ive actually had my CV Jazz neck on 3 different basses since ive had it. After 3 years with it ive not had any issues with the neck. i know it doesn't have the rods in it like the MIA's but its a pretty sturdy neck.
10.
Apparently the tuners have a rattle
When i got my CV Jazz i had a rattle as well. It turned out the soldering wasn't up to scratch on the clover leaf part, and there was a very small gap between it and the shaft. This caused it to vibrate against the shaft. I bit of super glue cured this and its been fine ever since. I also changed the pick guard for a black one, on both my CV's (from Axesrus, as Tony has said). I found them to be a perfect fit, and didn't need to file anything on the Jazz, but did on the P (again, like Tony i had a Thumper in mine and the case is just that bit bigger, this was true with the stock PG as well though). Ive also got a Gotoh 201 bridge on both basses. I prefer the slightly narrower string spacing. Again, its a standard drop in replacement part, no need to re drill any holes.
11. Just recently my old M-audio card has started to play up. Im getting ticks and clicks when i play any music through my PC, and even when i scroll a window i hear a noise. Its not officially supported under Windows 8, and although i think its something in the system rather than the card i cant be bothered to mess around with it. Its about 5 or 6 years old now, and in that time ive not kept up with whats around. It does seem like USB has taken over at the lower/mid end of the consumer market. So im looking for a general sound card, thats fully supported under W8 64bit, has very low latency (ASIO required) and, well, thats it really. Im not too bothered about real high quality, its just for learning songs really. Low latency is the most important feature. I only need one input, just for bass, ill never record multiple instruments at once. I have a small mixer connected already, so that handles all the ins and outs, i just run a stereo feed to the sound card's line in. Ideally id like an internal sound card, i hate having wires all over the place. Saying that, im wondering if this would do. It looks ideal for the song learning bit, and i could do away with the small mixer, but i cant work out if it can be used as the PC's default audio device (im guessing it can). http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/m-audio-m-track-usb-audio-and-midi-interface--104978 I had an older version before (Fast track IIR) and it wasn't very stable, this was a few years ago though. Budget is no more than £100, hopefully less. I dont need it for games or home cinema either. Cheers.
12. The OP doesn't know what he is talking about ;-)
13. Well for one, they are called Chicken picks, and I suppose this is because we pick, not plec the strings. Everyone i know uses the term "pick" or " plectrum", In fact I've never heard anyone use the term "plecs" before.
14. I found this video a real help, and it made things a lot easier for me to do my own setups. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIzV9462xeE
15. I guess im lucky in that i dont tend to loose picks that often. Ive had the same pack of Claytons 1.9mm Acetal picks for about 4 years. Started off with 12 and ive still got 9. I guess thats a no to anyone using the Chicken picks then. I do get very sceptical when something is advertised as better than anything that gone before it (EB Cobalt's were another disappointment)
16. The only ones i saw were on the 5th year anniversary page. Not many really, although i got Badlands which seems to be good fun. I did grab both versions of Traktor, although i doubt ill actually use them. Cant go looking a gift horse in the mouth eh?
17. Good, in its own way, until the shouting started. I can see the "horror" connection
18. Just a heads up. Apple are doing a 5 years of the app store promotion and some of the bigger titles are free for a limited time.
19. Ive now come full circle and want to get rid of the B3 and get a 60B (anyone want to swap? ;-) I love the B3 to bits, but i originally got it as it was cheaper than a BDDI. It turned out the B3 was just too distracting on stage, too much temptation to mess with it and i found my feet are a bit too wide to hit just one ON-Off switch without taking time, so i now have a BDDI and the B3 just sits by the PC for home practice. Looking at the 60B again i think its going to work just as well, plus as its smaller i can take it out as a Chorus or filter pedal every now and then, without wanting to use the pre amps etc. One question though (and no, ive not read the manual or watched the videos yet, my bad). Say i have chorus, filter and maybe distortion set up on separate patches, ready to by cycled through if and when i need them. How to i get to bypass these, so im not using any effects? Im sure its a simple thing to do but im hoping its not a case of programming one patch with no effects.
20. I was going to order a pack but i.........chickened out
21. Well i checked and they dont come with any BBQ sauce
22. After seeing them in a StringsDirect mail shot i had a quick look in to them. I'd love to believe what the website says but i feel its just the usual hype. http://www.chickenpicks.com/ Anyone already using them?
23. Ive got the Guitar Bug version, i paid £70 for it new a few years ago so yes, id say thats a pretty good deal. I have just switched to a Line 6 Relay G30 and that just cost me £260, so £83 seems a pretty good deal if you arent needing anything more advanced, or wanting to pay more. Probably not good for large stages, although ive never played on any big stages with mine so couldn't really say. I did find the range good enough for most of my venues and never had any issues with it. Im not sure if these analogue systems are going to be as hassle free as they used to be, due to the change in the radio channels being changed and getting very conjested, but up until last week i wasnt seeing any issues with my old AKG system.
24. Another vote for a Squier CVP. Its very good value for money (especially compared to the standard MIM basses), and has a very nice neck. These have vintage frets, not all basses do, and certainly not a lot at this price point. They do feel very different to, say a Lakland BG or even a Fender MIA/MIM I much prefer the CV neck over the more expensive ones. Its a good idea to try them, but be aware you dont have to spend the full £500 to get a good bass.
25.
I like the Lakland but way blows my budget booohooo

Lakland JO/44-60 also has a slimmer neck than a US jazz.
Yep, i have one of those necks on my Squier and its even slimmer and flatter than my Squier CV jazz neck (which i what i was going to add my vote for ).
