The list is usually compiled within the Bash thread. So one adds one's tag and the gear they are bringing, like this... @Frank Blank - Jabba short scales, fretted and fretless, Ibanez SRC6, QSC K12.2, Grace Design preamp. ...and then other attendees copy and paste the above and add their own tag and gear. Pedants like me keep an eye on the list as some people don't tag or mess the list up and occasionally tidy it up and repost. Here is an example of an attendee/gear list from the last SE Bash. Also if we tag the lovely @Silvia Bluejay she will pin the thread for us.

As with other Bass Bash threads shall we start an attendee/gear list?

Definitely in. It's also a five hour drive for me.

The definitive guide...

It must be a particular skill of mine, they tore me a new one within an hour!

True. Which is why you put in the occasional appearance... 😉 Yes, Basschat is a real exception to most forums that collapse into nasty abuse at the drop of a hat. I lasted a day on TalkBass before I was hounded off for asking a beginners question. I was worried initially that BC might be the same but it really is exactly the opposite. December 11th 2014 was my first post and I'm still here, daily, thoroughly enjoying it.

Thanks for this, an excellent listen. 👍

According to an interview I read (from years ago) with other members of Japan, Karn would turn up at rehearsals, usually late, when the band had worked out a new song. Karn would respond with a bass line that would often have very little to do with the music. Apparently he would often just read the working title of the song and write his bass line in response to that. It infuriated the band because they would often have to rewrite or start from scratch to build the songs around Karn's bass lines because they were so good.

I am sure Karn was an influence on Pino, no bad thing obviously, it's how most of us start out, listening to and emulating, to some extent, players who inspire us. I have maybe overstated my case because both Pino and Giblin are superb. I personally prefer Karn but that's down to all sorts of stuff to do with Japan and the times when I was listening to them. Karn seems (to my ears at least) to have developed a very unique style that I cannot hear in anything that precedes him (perfectly happy to be directed to anything that might be an influence on him, apart from Jaco, who I can't stand for more than thirty seconds).

Oh I'm sorry Sir, I was only aiming for nine minutes maximum 🤣

C. Because he had more originality than both Pino and Giblin put together?* *just my personal opinion of course

I feel particularly lucky to have seen Japan twice, both times at Hammersmith Odeon in 1981 *christ...* I still listen to Modern English, the support band for the first gig. Just reminiscing to myself really, nothing to see here...

Any excuse...
