1.
Going to try this week the 12AU7 mod, apparently according to people on Talkbass it's less of a mod and more of a correction, removing a bottle neck from the design of the amp, giving it more headroom, more responsive volume controls and a more responsive mid control.
fwiw Mark's new Mesa already has a Mullard 12AT7 in the drive position. I think it makes a great difference and made the EQ much more responsive. Good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on

 3.
With massive thanks to Tayste this is now traded
Hey Ash - glad that worked out for you. Enjoy the 400+
 4.
Now, where have the children hidden their money boxes? ...
Aw Mark, I hope it doesn't come to that! Good to meet you today and hope you enjoy it

 6. Also interested in the ShuttleMax Has anyone out there got one or compared it to the standard Shuttle?
 7.
are you willing to post it?
Not really keen to post it. There's a fellow BC'er coming to try it out on Monday. Will update if it's still available after that.
 8. Thanks guys - PM's returned Currently still available pending other sales on the Basschat gear merry-go-round
 9. I think Alex was a bit wary of posting sound clips as there are so many variables (e.g. quality of recording, type of amp / bass used, computer speakers etc.) and no sound clip can really convey what a fairly neutral sounding cab actually sounds like, how loud it can get, how it responds to EQ etc. May be worth getting in touch with the nearest person on this list to see if you can arrange to try it out
 10.
Very, very nice amp. How you compare this to Orange AD200B. Do you know or is there anyone who can help?
Thanks - I haven't tried an Orange so can't really comment. I'm sure others on here may have experience of both, or maybe worth a search on here or Talkbass
 11. I'd suggest PM'ing Beedster if he doesn't spot this thread, as I recently sold him a SD Ric neck pick-up which I'd bought but never fitted... doh! He seemed happy with it but can comment more than I can, as it didn't make much noise when sat in my cupboard not connected to a bass
 12.
I think you need to get down to the gym since you think your 400+ is heavy, I walked near a mile with mine the other night in my arms. Ya big girl
... so true!! I'm just skin and bone really I'll never make it in a Doom metal band
 13. Back in the old days there was no problem with gear moving on its own on stage, as it was blooming heavy and took two people to move most of it Now in the world of 11kg 500W cabs and 0.00001 oz 500W+ heads just wondered if your rig still stays rooted to the spot, or shuffles around on stage on its own In my lightweight quest I'm looking at whether I should get a slightly heavier head (although sound comes first) to make the rig stay put and to prevent the chance of my instrument cable pulling the head off the top of the cab on the rare occasion that I wonder around the stage and I'm not rooted to the spot
 14. Just writing some stuff now I generally need something to work with like a drum loop or sample which provides a bit of inspiration (not that this apparent from the bass lines I come up with ) EDIT - also play other people's bass lines (or as close as I can get to them) in a very amateurish covers band
 15. Thanks - very kind offer Tayste - appreciate it You'll have more experience that I with other tube amps, as this is the only one I've owned Same offer for anyone closer to me. Come and try the actual amp if you're interested Edit - also if anyone wants to bring any kit to test the tubes they're more than welcome (I haven't a clue how this would work)
 16.
Do you know when it was last re-valved? And when was it first sold? (I guess the receipt will tell you that).
It was originally bought in April 2007 from the Bass Centre for £1,639. I am not sure whether it has been revalved since, but then it hasn't been used a lot. I have only changed one valve which is the drive pre-amp to a Mullard 12AT7
hey man, just wondering what th impedance on this bad boy is and wether its jack or speakon outputs?

The 400+'s as far as I'm aware are all jack out puts and put according to Mesa 500w into 8ohms, 4ohms or 2ohms This is the loudest head I've ever come across, there isn't anything that touches this currently available in the tube world
As Tayste says...all jacks and same output whether 8, 4 or 2 ohms - and yes, it's loud
I'm just curious. How does this one sound compared to the Mesa/Boogie Bass400? Except beeing louder that is. I tried the bass400 and it sounded almost exactly like Mesa/Boogie Buster200.I have never tried the 400+ but i have read somewhere that it sounds more warm and fat.Is that true?
I haven't tried the 400 (non-plus) but can confirm that it can do warm and fat (but still retains more definition than some other tube amps IMHO) Thanks also for the kind words
 17. Well, I'm getting close to 40 and my back is telling me I no longer need my lovely Mesa 400+ (that said, if you're after an all-valve amp it's one of the lighter ones) I am the third owner of the amp (still have the original receipt) and it appears that it has been very well cared for. Very slight scratch in the paint on the right hand handle is just about visible in the pics, but otherwise it's in excellent condition. Needless to say it sounds lush  and they have been discontinued fairly recently so you can't get them new I have changed the drive valve for a Mullard ECC81 which adds to the smooth valvey tone and makes the EQ much more responsive. However, I can include the original drive valve should someone want to change back. To save you google-ing them here's some Mesa 400+ reviews Priced to sell at £850 (no offers thanks) including the Boschma 6U rack case Hopefully the guys on this Basschat thread don't mind me linking to let on about the secret that is Boschma rack cases I'm based near Guildford in Surrey if anyone is interested and wants to try it out Cheers Stu P.S. I have relisted this without the Lexicon MX300 and I'd messed up the original ad with too much confusing stuff Decided it was better to start again!
 18.
Stu didn't just reply to my post (appeal) for a Ric PUP, and sell it to me for a great price, but he also sent it before I'd even paid him, which in my book means he's a 100% top bloke and highly recommended. Cheers Stu, pleasure doing business with you, look forward to catching up sometime Chris
Thanks Chris - pleasure doing business with you also! Glad the PUP is working out for you
