1. Thanks - I was thinking of the g chords and the d . I will try it again in Db
2. I just found the notation for this track on www.davemarks.com. Its notated in Db - I can't post a link as I'm writing this on a blackberry. Is it likely to really be in D but played detuned by a semitone to get more open strings? Doesn't seem the easiest key when using standard tuning.
3. I just subscribed, but am still waiting for my strings.
4.
Thanks everyone. I might try some 40 - 100 on my Jazz as I could do with a bit more brightness.
At the Notts Bass Bash, someone commented that my Jazz sounded like a Rick - I thhink that this was mostly due to the strings.
5. I switched to .40s as my Jazz came with them. Pros- they seem to stay in tune better and should brighter, they also seem to slap better. Cons- they dont seem as beefy (duh) but you can add some effetc or extra mid to solve this. Genreally speaking, I'd say it was a thumbs up for my JAzz, but I'm going back to 45s on my Stingray
6. I concur with the measurements from bassdoc but add that the bridge pickup (to back edge) is 32.5 cm on my 62 reissue cij
7. Last time it was at a pub in nottingham. Worth going to, budgetbassist organised it as I recall. We should do it again really.
8. Will confirm from my 62 ri jap jazz tonight
9. 62 reissue jazz gets my vote
10. Maybe I'm being dumb, but why is that a typo? There's only one of her.
11. I just subscribed - at least its a UK focused mag. Fewer typos this month, I thought
12. Serious action needed on the typos - but I'm liking the rest. Seriously thinking about subscribing
13. Featured in last months BGM magazine - he plays a rick too I believe . I also liked 'somebody told me' and their version of 'romeo and juliet' off 'sawdust'
14. Its on the sawdust album currently being sold very cheap at hmv - also recommend 'joy ride' on the 'day and age' album
15.
People don't shout about them because they haven't got the supposed kudos of a big US manufacturers name. I've no direct experience of their bass pickups but I've used various Armstrong guitar pickups and they've all been excellent, just as good as your Duncans, Dimarzios, Fralins etc.
+1
16. thanks - the linked list is much easier to read/understand
17. hi - am I being an idiot or are these hard to find on the patch list? Some of the names are so cryptic that I dont know what they are. Can it do a rimshot? thanks
18.
Hi I was wondering if any 1 has had any yhing to do with the Vintage brand bass es by JHS . The model Iam looking at is the EST96AF ( looks like a 5 string Stingray / sub) Is this brand any good or bad?. I want to try a 5 string bass & was going to build 1 . I have a SD MM 5string pickup. as I like the look of Stingrays. If I bought this bass I have a preamp I can put into it & as well as the SD pickup. That way I can have the double H pattern. Any comments welcome thanks
I have exactly this bass (but the four string version) - its fine for what it is, the neck is nice and the fretting is good. The tone shaping is okay. The pots needed a squirt of cleaner and then they were fine. The pickups are alright but a little quiet, my CIJ jazz is louder. The pickup is the only thing I might change about it.
19. I bought it for the first time this month in a bid to make up my own mind. It was okay, Franc O Shea's column told me something I really didnt realise. However the review writers badly need to use a spell checker. Question: they give away free strings with a subscription - are only .45's available? I use lights
20. The 60s bridge pickup is nearer the scratchplate (I have a CIJ 62 RI) than the 70s - judging visually against mine I'd guess there's maybe 15 mm in it
21.
I also use the output of my Zoom B2.1U as it automatically adjusts to drive headphones when it senses them in the circuit rather than an amp input.
+ 1 on the zoom - it also has a metronome and a basic drum machine built in.
22. I dont think Ebay would entertain total nudity? She looks a bit photoshopped to me - look around the face and see if you can see what I mean.
23.
Hi. Hope I can help as I use this drum machine regularly. You can change the number of beats in the sequence from 8 to 4 very easily. You need to go into the edit section (where you've already changed the quantize). If you continue to scroll through the menu it gives you the option of number of beats in the bar. Just change it to four and remember to save. Sorry I can't be more specific than this as I'm trying to recall from memory as I don't have the unit or manual to hand. It's very easy to do though. Good Luck David
Thanks - I figured out my original problem from reading some generic drum machine stuff in ed friedlands 'bass grooves' but I couldn't work out /how/ to save changes - you press the PLAY button bizarrely.! It just seems wierd that the metronome click happens at the start of a multibar pattern not the start of each bar!
24.
I'm not sure what you mean by resting the pad of my finger on the pickup, do you mean the point of my thumb? Also, Geek99, sorry, I meant parallel! Perpendicular would be very odd!
I believe she means putting the fat fleshy part of your thumb wholly (and flat down) on the pickup's upper face, not just the tip of your thumb. It should spread the load a little and take pressure off the joint.
25. Hi, I just got one of these and I am confused about one aspect. The standard "number of beats" shown when programming is 8, even though I've set the quantize to whole notes/crotchets. The metronome clicks loud on beat 1 and not again on 5, suggesting each beat shown is an eighth note/quaver However it sounds, given the tempo, as if its counting out two bars and you, by default, program a two bar phrase for a pattern. can anyone advise?
