1. I'd say initially - go for a MIJ/CIJ, but............if you find a mexi jazz that does it for you - looks, feels and sounds good - then go for it. A MIJ will always have a better resale price, but you can't beat buying a bass that looks good in the flesh, and by playing it, you know has no deadspots or other issues. If this bass is gonna be your 'one and only' please..... don't trust to a mail order online sale - try before u buy!
2. If you're getting 'playing noise', then raise your action - no amount of electronic trickery will cure this. As for Mexican Fenders - there's good and bad - I've just bought a (cheap) beat up P bass that plays awesome and sounds pretty darn good - and because it was cheap I don't need to be precious when gigging it. Warwicks are quality basses - as stock - so check your set up before you spend loads of dough!
3. That's interesting about the 'G' on the 'E' string. My 'Classic 50's' P had exactly the same issue when playing quietly , but at gigs it seemed to dissapear. Now I've played it a bit it's gone - hopefully - for ever! I've probably set it up a bit and tweaked the truss rod - so maybe that's made the difference. I've always associated dead spots with the G string and was quite amazed at myself when I bought the P home, and found it flumped it that most fundamental of positions! But hey - it's 'All Right Now!!' Col
4. Thanks Andy - Ironically - the £26 quote motivated me to look real hard in my gig bag - and hey.....guess what......£26 quids worth of antenna appeared ha ha!! Col
5. OK - so I lost the screw in antenna from my freeport belt pack - it's a little screw in jobby. I got in touch with Sennheiser who helpfully gave me the number of their spares department, and the item number. The spares department told me they couldn't sell me the part as i don't have an account - I'd have to go through the retailer. Got in touch with Sound Control, who told me....quote......"It was more trouble than it was worth to order spares" - couldn't believe that so I gave them a piece of my mind. They referred me to Turnkey. Turnkey referred me back to Sound Control. although I never mentioned I'd bought the product from them. They also recommended a company Cimple Solutions. Simple Solutions have been very professional and helpful, however............. ...........I received a quote for the part today at just over £26 inc postage. Now I don't want to seem like a real breadhead - but that sounds like a huge con for a tiny screw in antenna. So my question is................Could I bodge it and just wedge a small length of wire in the hole. Ironically, the transmitter still works without the antenna, although it's range is reduced. Any ideas?
6. Coolest? Sting Norman Watt - Roy Tony Levin No contest!

9. I know what you're saying, but i think the thing with TL is.... he's not a technical player, it's all about getting a great tone and great feel, and playing what is right for the song. I really respected him for admitting he didn't have a chance of keeping up with the boys in Dream Theatre. I'm probably saying this because i ain't got too many flash chops, but IMO being a good bass player is about doing what's right for the music you're being employed to play. I have to say I was a little surprised as well - i was there with my drummer, and we both remarked on how 'behind the beat' he was when playing to the backing tracks - not sure if that was intentional. Still loved the evening though!
10. Hey - I was there! As you can see below - Tony was thrilled to meet one of his heroes (I wish!) What a nice laid back guy he is - obviously totally into his music - thanks machinehead for putting the evening on. Oh - and could anyone else get their heads around the bizarre token system for buying drinks?!
11. +1000 for Andy Viccars. Top man - knows his stuff - he's done loads of work for me. He loves what he does and doesn't do what he does to make a mint - totally trustworthy.....not a bad bas player either!!

13. Used Dunlops for years and never had a problem. They can be hard to get on the strap - which also meand they're hard to get off - which is good. Seen one of our guitarist hunting for a xcrew out of his Schallers twice. Nuff said!

15. You can get any 'bolt on' warwick with a 32" neck from their custom shop. I've got a Fender Mustang - there's absolutely nothing wrong with the sound of that - even though it's a 30" scale - cuts through in a band mix perfectly. I'm only selling it because I find the upper fret access difficult - intersted?

19. Prices added, details changed on P Lyte to reflect rewiring and.....bumperty bump!!
20. Questions answered via PM. Why don't people often put the price on? Is it bad etiquette?
21. I want to own less basses so i can play the ones I've got more often - if that makes sense! I'll add some pitures over the week but i'll put a few on to be getting on with. Prices quoted reflect collection from Milton Keynes. Here goes: Fender (mex) Classic Precision Bass - Blonde. It's a '59 reissue and has been retro fitted with a tortoiseshell scratchplate. The original gold one is available but it's marked. There's a finger rest and a bridge cover fitted. When I put the bridge cover on, I didn't drill pilot holes, so the paint has cracked a bit, though you can't see this with the cover on. Also had to move the headstock string retainer over a couple of mm as it was misaligned. The old hole doesn't show though. Sounds great live - soundclips available. £300 Fender (Jap) Precision Lyte - 86.~~~SOLD~~~ Lighter than a light thing in a helium factory. Tobacco sunburst with tarnished gold hardware. Well worn chipped and scarred with bags of mojo! Excellent player - very fast thin neck. Now rewired, fitted with the original pickups and a passive VVT control set. £200 WITHDRAWN - Fender (Jap) Mustang reissue - Fiesta red. About 6 months old complete with very nice gig bag. Unmarked. Nothing at all wrong with this bass, It just doesn't suit me too well. £350 Hohner B Bass 6 ~~~SOLD~~~ Very nice 6 string bass - natural finish. It has active pickups, but I've taken the active preamp out as it sounded horrible, so the tone control is passive. A tasteful (!?) decal covers the hole for the other knob. it has three screw holes on the body where a Roland V Bass system was fitted. The dark marks on the photos are shadows from leaves!! This has a lovely tone and plays very nicely. It has a replacement bridge fitted, as the original had started to tarnish. The sticker on the headstock has been removed. £200 So come on - roll up roll up - come and buy my luvverly precision! May be open to trades but would prefer to sell.

23. I tried a VM Squier fretless recently and loved it. I'm comparing it to a japanese fender jazz fretless, and a custom built fretless 5. There's nothing wrong with th VM squires - I bought a VM 70's jazz recently and find I'm gigging with it more and more, despite having around 10 other fretted basses to choose from!
24. I can get there - that's gotta be good!
