1. thank you too, Sblue!
2. Cheers WoT, its the P that is my 'core' sound, the DB and fretless aspect is the second string to my (bull) fiddle Ta Rhys, its the perception of the volume, rather than the actuality, I am not a loud player. It just that sometime 'folkie' response to electric instruments. Same amp, same volume but.... Thanks for the Dorset input, interestingly I have a Sinsonido Guitar, I will look into that option.
3. Thanks Phil, I like the look of the Alien, but it is big bodied, that's the sore arm issue.
4. I'm playing in a Blues Band, using the Fender and EUB. Playing ABG and EUB in an Acoustic version of the above. Playing mainly ABG in a folk/ambient/simple setting.
5. Thanks, I'm sure it sounds fab, but at £2k + its out out my league. ...and the 'acoustic' codgers would freak at the look! I've already for a Bongo for freak factor

7. Thank you for that Jueblay! thought i'd try a lefty exclusive post first. I've tried the cheaper EUBs and they're quite harsh. not sure about the small spacing on the U-bass species either. Guess i was hoping for a miracle thin line acoustic option for 2 bob! Still, if you don't ask....
8. I've found more call for an acoustic DB-ish sound in addition to the conventional bass. I have used an old Eko BA4 fretless acoustic bass guitar and a Dean EUB. The Eko has a killer sound - Roto Tru Bass strings, a K&K transducer at the core, technically its a righty, but flipped and reset. However the body is huge and a gig in a tiny pub last year left me with a bad 'Tennis Elbow' type injury. Despite all sorts of treatments now I just can't play it comfortably. I bought the Dean Pace EUB and have been using it regularly as another alternative. It creates a lot of interest, it kind of provides the DB vibe and, because its stand mounted, its easy to jump on and off during a set and it is comfortable to play. Its also technically a righty, but flipped and reset. Unfortunately, its bare sound is pretty brittle and it really needs the Fishman Platinum Pro EQ, as well as reverb and chorus. I've played 'acoustic' gigs and, on more than one occasion, had the promoter tell me my P-bass is too loud, I replace it with the EUB, or the ABG and the complaints go away! I haven't got the space or tolerance for carrying a DB, those days are gone! So, clearly the 'acoustic' thing is partly psychological, the DB vibe partly visual. Does the solution have to be expensive? There are some fantastic DB sound capable 'semi acoustic' 'thinline' basses - Carvin AC40, Godin, etc all well over £1000 I have yet to find a really convincing EUB - I also have a 50's Framus but again the cost of the better ones exceeds £1000 too OH! and of course.... I'm a lefty! I'd appreciate your thoughts on alternatives, gang. Cheers, Nodd
9. Novelty value! Folks tend to remember the lefty at the auditions or from seeing you live! I can get by on a righty, it messes with folks' heads and impresses them too!
10. Just bought a second hand '09 Squier P bass. Apart from a badly fitted p/guard, it's a pretty good bass. Lots lighter than my 'real' P.
11. None of the holes in the pickguard of my Squier line up, and its 'as fitted'!
12. lovely tone, is the 'thorb' filter fully disengaged?
13.
I put a 40/40 together from parts that I bought from the Fender Soundhouse on Tottenham Court Road after Hayman had gone bust and there had been a fire there. I eventually PXed it for a Fender P, which in hindsight I'm not sure was a good thing.
Interesting, that was the fire that took my first Fender - a Telecaster bass ! it was in for repair, I'd only had it a month too! couldn't get a repalcement it was a lefty.
14. Has anyone tried these yet? I'm just about to acquire a P-bass special as a test bench and think one of these might be worth a bash.
15. Please do be careful about storing basses next to foam rubber for a long time. I had one in an old Bass Centre gigbag, the foam lining left marks on the finish which were a devil to remove. Nodd
16. I had diificulty with thumb placement too. I have used one of the Bass Buddy thumbrests put it in exactly the same place as where I rest my thumb on my P-Bass, (I use the pickup cover on my P). There is a small difference in that the bongo hangs slightly differently from the P so it might still feel odd, but the strings feel the same under my fingers.
17. Welcome to the enlightened level of Bongo Nirvana! 18V of Donner und Blitzen
18. Thank you both. Looks like I might also have a challenge with the proposed chrome pick up cover like my P
19. Thanks Spike! perfect response.... thanks for your trouble. Looks like putting on the chrome pick-up cover I had planned might be a bit tricky! Nodd
20. Thanks Chaps, just having new pickguard/ no pickguard thoughts... I really should learn to be more patient!
21. The Black Aurora strings arrived, I put them on my Precision and left them for a week, didn't get a chance to play it.. they did take a little bit of extra time to settle down tuning wise. The Auroras are much more reminiscent of regular Swing Bass, brighter than the Nexus, louder too. I don't like the tone as much presently, its a little too 'big' for my taste I 'm hoping they will calm down a bit. The feel is a little heavier than the Nexus, but not an issue The coating has lasted two gigs so far, the plucked area of the G string (ooerr) has worn slightly, but that was due to a stressful Saturday night. I will update in a week or so, but so far I prefer them to the Nexus. Nodd
22. I've just snagged a used but recent Squier P Bass Special (lefty) from the web. Do any of you have one? if so, can you tell me what the channeling under the pickguard is like? i.e. has it the 'hole' from finish spraying and is the pick up cable channel routed? Thanks, Nodd
23. Do any of you have one of the recent Squier P bass Specials? if so, can you tell me what the channeling under the pickguard is like? i.e. has it the 'hole' from finish spraying and is the pick up cable channel routed? Thanks, Nodd
24. The Squier approach to the lefty market is a bit strange. They seem to produce limited runs, currently the Jazz basses, of pretty standard models. I'd love to see lefties with Filtersonics or Humbucker p/ups like the 'Tele' and 'Cabronita', can't even find these p/ups as spares.
