  1. Cheers for that! I've messaged Binky...
  2. Yeah, that makes total sense, I hadn't really considered the string spacing. It's a bit of a rabbit hole really. The difficulty for me is that where I live there aren't any music shops that have 6 string basses, so have to go largely by advice from fellow bass players and you tube videos.
  3. cheersd for allthe help guys, really appreciate it.
  4. That's a bit of a curve ball. Would be rude not to have a look, could you send me some details please?
  5. Cheers for that. The weight doesn't really bother me to be honest. I think the 35 scale would be preferable, but I've no personal experience to verify this.
  6. Yeah, did initially look at a Btb 806, but seems very difficult to get any clear sound examples which aren't heavily processed. The ones I have heard didn't sound as good to me as the Sire. But this is going by you tube videos though, so hardly scientific. Would you recommend them then?
  7. To cut a long story short, I've decided to go over to the dark side and get a 6 string bass. The sort of stuff I (attempt to) play is sort of king Crimson crossed with Miles Davis, with a healthy dollop of funk, and a smattering of metal when we're in the mood. My budget is around 1500 quid and I've narrowed it down to either the Sire F10 6, or perhaps a Yamaha Trb; does anyone have any opinions/advice on either of these?
  8. I use Biyang clones of a Rat and a big muff pedals. Both play really well with valves and sound epic.
  9. "Good bass playing should mean you shouldn't notice the bass in the song" - As I was once told during an audition...
  10. John Paul Jones for me. Always my go to bassist if I'm stuck for ideas; the way he blends melodic phrases, the all important funk, and driving rock when needed, is always inspirational.
  11. Nickel NYXL's on my current Jazz bass, but I used to use various types of steel strings on my Musicman. I think the bass dictates what string type I use. These days I'm also conscious of wear and tear on the fret wire, and nickel are supposed to be more forgiving.
  12. Electric upright with plush gig bag, hard case, rugged foldable stand, and a double bass bow still available.
  13. If you're playing in the band for fun, and it's stopped being fun, it's time to leave in my opinion. Life's too short. That's not to say you should bolt after one or two bad gigs or rehersals, but if it's become the norm, what are you getting out of it? If the band forms a significant part of your income, then that's a bit different...
  14. These are great basses, Squier VM '77 Jazz, bound neck, pearloid block fret inlays, with original black scratchplate, and custom made mirrored scratchplate, and gig bag. Some interest, but still available.

  16. I have one similar to this (a 1A), and they'er great basses. Built like tanks, and have a wide tonal pallete. For the money, it's ridiculous and will out perform basses costing much more than this. If I didn't have one I would be very tempted. GLWTS.
  17. Yes, thanks for your comments. I must admit I haven't tried it with a battery, but yes, that's possible too. Great little amp, still available!
