That's a rather enthusiastic '+10000' Oh, I give up. I will leave the big chunky, heavy basses for the poor unfortunates who think they deserve them!
-
Thanks for the replies chaps. Looks like a good move!
I recorded before and after clips if this helps .. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=123987&hl
You should also consider the Polish GMR basses - they have them at Bass Merchant. They're infinitely better designed than Sandbergs - shaped ergonomically with slimmer necks and better balance
Can you explain this mate? I can't really see how it's possible. The problem for me is that these GMR and Mayones and the like look very, very ugly to my mind, and too musicianly, if you see what I mean. I need a bass design that reflects my personality and the music I play. This just isn't me .. This is .. -
Pub called the Butchers Arms in Yeovil. It was our first gig there and the nudity kicked off about 20 minutes in. I'd say it was all to do with that pub if it was the first time people had got their kit off at one of our gigs but partial or total nudity seems to be fairly common. I think it might have something to do with the gallons of scrumpy being drunk. *edit* Ah -just got the reference! Aplogies for the serious reply!. Yep, they scared the sh*t out of us when we first walked in but they truned out to be really nice people. The large hairy bloke is the landlord.
This one? https://www.facebook.com/butchersarms.yeovi...eovil?sk=photos There are enough photos of potential front persons on there to keep this thread going a very long time
We are - but there can be a fine line between immense fun and abject terror Mind you, that was Yeovil - they probably do that sort of thing at everyone's gigs? Baz, our dancing badger
f***ing hell. Where was that gig?! Dale Farm?
Last time I saw TGU live - a couple of years ago I suppose, when Moonshout was just released - Krupa was singing, but there was no Sheema on bass and sitar. Instead there was bloke called Matt (I think) taking over Sheema's duties on both her bass and sitar. He had the same sort of dress sense as Shaggy of Scooby Doo fame!
Ah, occasionally there's a clash with her schedule, so her dep is brought in. I've not seen him, take any pics of Shaggy on Sitar?
I'd also like to check out this guy's work, and so (please don't get me wrong with my question) - is there an album/DVD with him playing something else than cheesy 90's fusion? I've listened to some stuff from 'Le Band" and it just wasnt happening for me.. Maybe I should be looking at later stuff (2000-present , or something like that..) ? easy Laimis
Nope
Silddx, are you playing for Transglobal? I was playing with Johnny and TDF for about four years so I wonder if we've probably crossed paths at some point?
Ooh, see my other post above I know Johnny to speak to, the old pirate Saw him a few month ago when I was playing with Sheema at Lushfest. You a dhol man then? Do you know Gurjit and Rav Diamondcut?
-
I don't suppose you've had anything to do with Transglobal Underground, have you? No reason for asking other than curiosity, as I understand that Sheema used to - or maybe still does - play sitar as part of that outfit.
Hello mate Yes I do Although I'm not in the band. Krupa and Sheema are full time members of TGU and I work with them on their solo projects, and other TGU projects. I play with Tim and Hami a lot, he is a stunning drummer with the most incredible timing! Tim is also a fantastic musician and producer.
We're not in Brizzle for a while unfortunatley - 9th & 10th of December are the next ones. We're in Bridport tomorrow night though if you fancy a wee drive! Kes is a total star - I've only been in this band for 2 months and I've already seen stuff that would turn you grey. We did 5 gigs in 3 days over the August bank holiday, amazingly all of us survived although Kes and I have no memory of the gig on the Sunday night.
Your band look like immense fun in those photos
He's one of us.
Indeed, Captain Bass. I still don't believe there's any such animal as a Great Solo Bass Album though The nearest you'll ever get is instrumental dub.
By the way, you could also try contact the UK distributor, Synergy Distribution about info on nut measurements, etc.
Awesome posts, thank you! There's one for sale on here now but the seller's not too good at getting back to me and I doubt he will go with my suggestion of him sending it me for a try, so I'll give it a miss given it's damaged and you reckon £500 - £600 is about right. I'd love to take you up on your offer but I won't be in the WMs for quite some time! Thanks again mate. -
Heres ours:
What a lovely expressive face!
I have seen her a few times with The Imagined Village & I love sitar playing B
Excellent, that's lovely! I played guitar with Sheema and Martin Carthy a few months ago, it was an intimidating prospect
Wow I didn't realise you played for Sheema Mukherjee. She is great nice gig mate Brendan
She's a fabulous world class musician and a very very dear friend. I'm deeply honoured to play music with her. How do you know her mate? Cheers, N

I'm also wondering how Happy Jack will feel when he realises I'm strongly thinking of moving on the bass I got from him last Saturday It's a cracking bass actually, it has the clearest harmonic response of any bass I've ever played. I just find the slab Tele body a bit uncomfy for my small frame and the looks, although fab, aren't really me. I love the Graphite neck though, it is amazing! It's the 5th one down here, the red and black one, it belongs to me now http://www.status-graphite.com/status/fram...sstockvint.html -
i had the opportunity to try a couple of sandbergs. one was a special model made for the italian site megabass.it, and was a well-playing simple instrument. kind of a no frill bass, with just a single sopabar pickup (delano, i suppose) in the sweet spot position. as far as I am concerned, it was a good instrument, but nothing really special. I also played a 5 string active jazz clone (ash/maple/maple) with delano pick ups: in that particular case I was kind of disappointed. It was, of course, a beautiful bass, great looks and excellent finish. It was also a joy to play, but I ended up thinking that it was kind of lacking in personality.
Many thanks, biro! The personality bit doesn't bother me tbh, I need a great quality reliable workhorse bass that feels lovely to play, looks good, and has a good tonal range. It can leave the personality bit to me -
Nigel, there are a few decent German outlets that should be able to get you one, and shipped over with no problems. I found another store, (which I will link to) that has a PM4 and JM4 for around £1000 plus 10 Euro shipping.
Tha would be ace, thanks G! -
PS - The prices on Thomann are pretty damn good, IMO. Probably because its from Germany!
They are so low compared to GG. But then I swore I would NEVER use Thomann again after my recent pitiful expreriences with them regarding the quality of what they sent me and their customer service. -

I do believe I'm working with Paul at the moment, too... very good drummer, indeed. And a very nice man!
Yeah, he mentioned that when I saw him on Saturday. He likes you too
