I'd love to have a go at jamming with an Actual Drummer, but seriously am a bit scared. So thanks for re-asurring us that it's all lovely! Looking forward to it!
Seriously, there is nothing to be scared about, we all started somewhere. Paul is a really lovely guy, and last year the 5 people jamming were at all levels of experience and ability. One thing this is so good for is getting some experience playing bass with drums and another instrument to provide some harmony, that means you can chug away playing simple things but sound like a band, it's such a great feeling being part of that. After you get over any initial nerves, I can almost guarantee you'll have so much fun! Get in the Jam Room, say hello to me and Paul, and we'll support you all the way -
Damn. I absolutely loved this bass to death and really miss it... should never have let it go. Whoever buys it won't be disappointed.
I really miss mine too. But the neck was just a wee bit too clubby for my tastes. I got a more recent fretless Corvette and the neck was like a Geddy Jazz, if I could get a $$ with a neck like that I'd be very happy.
I think Sandberg basses are just amazing..I've had around 120 basses in my life (from Status to Alembic, from Fodera to vintage Fenders). I've sold nearly everything and I have around five basses left (a good fretless, a five-string, a nice P bass, my Wal and my Sandberg). I'm even thinking about selling my Wal since I enjoy playing my Sandberg more. The sounds are so versatile, remind me of a great Jazz-bass, a nice Ken Smith, a smooth Stingray... Tastes differ but it beats every Fender I have owned, even my '66 Jazz.. I paid 800 euros for this one second hand, it keeps on inspiring me..
It was your pic on stage with this in the Show Us What You Look Like thread that got me thinking about Sandbergs -
Heres a young lady who we will be backing on Saturday...
She looks great, I love that style
Beautiful violinist. Come on, somebody else must have some cute female band members?
Ok, not a band as such, but I have shared a stage (and a dressing room ) with this lady who's a mate of Krupa's and performs with her once in a while. She's lovely and extremely talented. Miss Polly Rae ..
haha my Dhol skills are very limited to say the most, I was bass player with them four the last four years. He's got a whole new band at the moment, something he does every now and then but apparently they're sounding awesome at the moment. I miss those big gigs, but not the hearing damage 5 dhols inflicts!
Riiight! We certainly have some connections then, Dhols are f***ing loud! Fabulous instruments.

TBH, Mark did a cracking job of changing my mind about them, they sound absolutely superb, have 24 frets which I really do use, and I want one in shell pink -

No, I've owned basses with both. I had a chat with Mark at Bass Direct and I am going to try a Mayones Jabba on his recommendation, it ticks more of my boxes than the Sandys. Got to shift my Status Vintage first though! -
Delano's pickups are good Gareth, trust I. Capt's seal of approval
They are glorious pickups, lovely sweet detail. I liked the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz too. -
Oh Fender reps would never do that would they? Of course they would. But its the first I have heard of it How did this come about then. Do tell ?
According to the book I have, an account by one of the Fender managers was that the discs for the three-bolt's micro-tilt mechanism regularly had the hole stamped off centre, so as a fix they would make the neck socket bigger with a hand router ("not most precise of tools") so the neck would have the micro-tilt adjuster hole in the right place, matching the hole in the neck plate. Often the necks would be misaligned leading to the strings being to one side of the fingerboard. The reps apparently would deliver the instruments to the dealers and misaligned necks would be yanked into alignment while the store managers had their backs turned. I've actually done this myself in a shop that sells old guitars and basses. Have a look at the three bolt neck Fender Jazzes for sale at the moment. Common on the 3 bolt guitars too.
I was interested in a Sandberg but tried the Mayones after being advised that it was probably a better take on a modern version of a traditional Fender I fear that the OP, after his triumphant return to this forum, may be falling back into bad habits! Regardless of the merits of Sandberg basses, he is unlikely to find one appreciably better than the rather nice bass that he has just acquired. If I may I would suggest that should consider spending a bit more time playing and getting used to that before setting off on a never-ending quest for the mythical ideal bass!!
Hello Pete. This all sort of stems from the fact I have bought and sold without playing for far too long and I have always had to make some compromises with all the instruments I've had and think it's not really too much to ask to own a bass that ticks all my boxes. A lot of this stems from limited funds, experiments because of a mind corrupted by Basschat, and being a bit of a magpie I went to Nevada to buy a guitar, tried plenty and came out with a USA Fender Strat Deluxe. It is the most delightful guitar, suits me perfectly and I adore it. This happened because I tried them first. I plan to do the same with a bass. I will go to GG and try a bunch of basses. -
Oi! There are some wonderful '70s Fenders - early '70s Precisions are as good as any '60s Precisions IMHO (having owned both) and although their QC became more variable post mid-70s there were still some cracking basses in the latter half of the '70s
I have yet to see a 70s three bolt Fender for sale that didn't have a wonky neck pocket and the strings well out of alignment due to the neck being out of wack. Have a look at any that come up for sale and you'll almost certainly find the G almost falling off the neck edge and the E half an inch in from the edge. That would piss me off so much I could never buy one. You can of course yank the neck back into place like the Fender reps used to do
