1.
Got the recording I did uploaded to Soundcloud. http://soundcloud.co...v-mixer-bigroom Says it all in the description. Can you tell the difference?
They are completely different. The first is a greatly cleaner signal, unless you added some effects or noise or something with the Alesis. Are you serious that you can't hear a difference?
  2. I'd LOVE this, but I can't afford it at the moment http://basschat.co.uk/topic/159179-steinberger-xm-2-4-string-bass-in-red-with-white-binding-l789-incl/
  3.
Plank with bits, project underway, it looks minging, can't be arsed finishing it - every part of it displeases my eye. Hideous.
I couldn't agree more. Warwick put up about ten designs for a singlecut on their forum, some were truly gorgeous. They asked for the public to vote on which one went into production. They chose that one, by quite a margin. It was the ugliest lumpen mess, and it proves the general public have no taste at all and need to be force-fed good style. I remain convinced it was chosen because it follows the Fodera blueprint. f***ing sheep.

    POD X3 LIVE
I've got one of these and it's like carrying around a well-stocked music shop with you You haven't mentioned that it also doubles up as an extremely powerful external soundcard for a Windows PC or Mac with something like 4 stereo channels of variations of Tone 1, Tone 2, Wet and Dry simultaneously output to your favourite DAW. Definitely a +1 from me too.
Pete, Would you kindly expand on how you use yours as a soundcard please? Cheers!
  5.
do you still have the piece that became detached? a careful application of decent wood glue and clamping carefully in place and then cosmetic retouching afterwards should not be too problematic as long as the detached section is in one piece?
This would be my approach, if not possible Ou7shined's is all good advice. And don't blame the cat. Bear it no ill will.
  6. That's really LOVELY! I nearly had a shell pink Mayones Jabba a couple of months ago but got my chrome Warwick instead. I have to say though, that Wilkins Jazz you sold me last year was outstanding! Tomash has that now, but I do wish I still had it.
  7.
Here is my new Warwick, traded from Warwickhunt just a couple of days ago. It's an absolute beauty. It plays brilliantly, it looks fantastic but the real joy is the tone. I plan to get some new photos taken of it tomorrow. I've never been so excited about a bass since I got my ACG, which bodes well!
Ebony board mate? My favourite! I love the tone of mine too, it's all I could want! I love my Streamer CT.
  8. All the info one needs is on his website. you can always call John and he'll be an absolute gent and tell you all you need to know to make a choice. They sound incredible and totally transform the limited Jazz bass electronics with no body mods and only one solder joint required. BUT you also retain the original tone in passive mode. I have loved the East pres I've had, they are incredible.
  9.
Good call, Nige.
Thank you, female
  10.
Anything to do with Bill Laswell and Buckethead? Fairly sure I've heard them at some point. Quite heavy stuff I seem to remember. Having listened to your example it sounds like Brain on drums; great snare sound.
Indeed! Brain, Bucket, and Bill Laswell. But they use loads of guests, Bootsy, Bernie Worrell, and many others. They do all sorts of styles, funk, sludge, hip hop, metal, dub, tenderness, but they always sound like Praxis.
  11. I've loved Praxis for years. But I'm the only person I know who's even heard of them. Here's one with Bootsy on bass .. And a couple of others ..
  12.
Hi can anyone give me any ideas with the controls of the j retro 1, particularly the mid sweep and boost controls for my mia 5 string jazz, thanks.
Your question is rather too vague. What do you really want to know mate? Also, what is the current control layout on your Jazz 5er?
  13.
Yup ... it's that "fun" issue again. If you're not doing it for the money and you're not enjoying it, then where's the point?
The point may be the uncertainty about ever being able to join another band that meets your needs, so may as well stay with the devil you know, some of it's enjoyable.
  14.
patrick o'hearn's bass tone imho is up alongside jaco himself check out the interplay from 4:15 its rather good
Oh thank you SO much for that!! I haven't seen that before. I love Patrick O'Hearn! He is an incredible player, and I agree with what you say about his tone to the extent that it is WAY more agreeable to me than Jaco's. Awesome!
  15.
+1000 to all of above - bang on correct.
Of course, but I doubt the intention of the OP was identify the BEST, just really nice sounds that people like personally. 'So....anyone else got any songs that they just love to listen to because of the bass tone? '
  16. Neither and both. I think I'd describe myself as an interpreter.
  17.
Scott Thunes and Cardiacs on the same thread. Winner. Anyhoo, about Scott's sound; "Yes, I used a flanger on stage. I was this cheezy little thing I got from Pia Vai, right after she was fired from Vixen (before they got big, but after a couple of years of touring military bases)". Jim Smith's sound on Sing To God is also a favourite.
As far I know it was Pia's Boss CH-1 chorus. Whatever it was, it's a great tone and ,apparently, sound engineers loved it.
  18.
You're spot on - it's actually a Jimmy Nail lyric. He's qualified to write it. It's a great studio - the best in Newcastle IMO. Really happy with the bass tone. DI'd via one of those magic plug-ins.
Haha! Jimmy Nail All I know is Croc Shoes, but it does sound like and older man's lyric. I think you should become an ambassador for digital now, fella!
  19. Apart from a (probably/hopefully wrong) feeling that the singer sounds like he couldn't possibly have written that lyric, that is an excellent quality recording and mix, really great performances and a nice song! The bass sounds really nice, warm and rich, perfectly suited to the song. That actually sounds like a band. Very impressive mate!
  20.
Some chorus? Maybe a touch. Hehe. Brilliant.
Steve Vai's wife's Boss CH-1 she gave him actually. You're right, much more than 'some'
  21. Scott Thunes on Dupree's Paradise from Make a Jazz Noise Here. 65 P Bass, played with a pick, some chorus into a Trace I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb3bQoxvHRk&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLA828471784E3D573
  22. I LOVE Chris Squire's tone on Siberian Khatru on the live Keys to Ascension album. I just HAD to programme something like it on the POD X3 and got close. Used it at the last gig. It's deep, with some sizzle. Wonderful tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0u0VW4UDQw
  23.
Has anyone got a copy of the edition from April/May 2010? It's the one with the GUS bass on the cover. I need a .pdf scan of the Bob Singer In The Woodshed article if anyone can e-mail it to me. Many thanks P
I have it, you can have the whole mag if you PM me your addy. Don't have access to a scanner at the moment.
  24.
Marathon - I had it on in the background, while I was doing something else, and I thought... WTF is that? It jumps right out.
What makes me jump is that fvcking pyro going off, ridiculous, couldn't they have killed the level a bit?
  25. Presto was the last album I truly love. Thought most of Roll the Bones and Counterparts was dull, although I still love Cut to The Chase. Test for Echo makes me cringe now, but I did like a lot of it when it came out. After that they lost me really. Although I buy all their albums out of some sort of duty.
