Maybe the time is right for this kind of thing, you hear similar ish kind of stuff around in the mainstream. Female is so Hot right now! But naughty, naughty Nigel shouldn't this be in the Recording section. Have you put it here cos no-one goes down there Good luck with it moving forward!
Hopefully it will be mate, but I'd like to think it will be because the music is interesting, and that people will like it because of the songs, the sounds, and Kit's gorgeous voice - rather than big tits and high heels. I don't think it should be in the recording section, simply because you're right, hardly anyone goes there, but also because we have a large bunch of Basschat followers who have been kind enough to buy the previous ep, so I'm in no way shy of putting it where they will see it, and hopefully they will like this just as much I put my own sh*t in the recording section though
Really good, Nigel. Love the arrangement/structure of the song, good lyrics, and a great fun video. Fingers crossed that things move forward this year! ps, needs lots of slap bass
Thanks for your lovely words man! Erm, wrong Nigel

Congratulations Rob! hell of an achievement mate! Have you posted a link on BookChat?
I saw it on Kit's Facebook page and love it. Great work all round.Good luck on the release.
Thanks Sam!
Fantastic! Well on par if not better than the last one. Such a haunting voice she has ............ how are you pushing it so far?
Stu, cheers mate! We will push big when the EP comes out in a few weeks or so. We've been offered a headline at a fabulous venue (Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush in London) and we are going to launch the EP there and hopefully get some industrial types to it. Hopefully we'll gig more this year and I'd love to play outside of London too. Thanks again.

Thank you very much for the comments fellas! BRX, it should be released this month. But maybe a little longer, Kit's rerecording the vox and synth on one of them as she wasn't happy with the sound. The mix has more clarity than the YT encoding, but I know what you mean and the vocal does blend with the backing in a couple of parts but that's how Kit wanted it.

Thanks Jack!
Great work Nige, really enjoyed that. Found the vid very slightly distracting but that's probably down to watching at the the tail end of a migraine,
Thanks mate, I also find it distracting, but I like it Hope your migraine leaves you alone imminently. Cheers!

This is from our soon-to-be-released new EP. There are two more videos coming but they are professionally shot and edited. This one is a lighthearted fun one shot on a Go-Pro by Kit, starring the band, and some friends and fans. I'd really welcome your thoughts. We need to crack it this year and we are going to work hard to try to do that. Kit doesn't want to record any new music until we get some backing, we are out of money I hope you like it! EDIT: You can actually buy this now from Bandcamp for 70p if you are impatient Or you can wait till Feb and order the four song EP as download, or physical CD with free download. http://kitrichardson.bandcamp.com/track/trust
Just been thinking about a photo our singer put on facebook saying roughly "Why will people pay £3.50 for a coffee that costs pennies is gone in a few minute etc. etc. but won't pay 99p for a song ?". Some of you may have seen it doing the rounds. I have no problem buying my music but I have to admit if I have to learn a cover song, for my band, that there is no way in the world I would want to buy it for my own listening pleasure I generally download it for nothing, learn it then forget about it, and it just sits on my laptop forever and never gets played again. What's everyone else's take on this ? Should I buy it ? Can't really make my mind up on this.
Buy the bloody songs! Support the artists you imitate (in order to make yourself some money) by paying them too. If you don't dig the songs that is no excuse for not paying for them. Maybe you should join a band who plays songs you enjoy. As for the coffee / music thing, it's just another dumb sh*t analogy on the internet that doesn't make any sense when you look beyond the obvious, which clearly a lot of people don't, or can't.
While I'm here... I feel I should address the previous comments about November's voting. I was going to let it lie but they keep cropping up, and being the person who won I can't help thinking they're aimed at me. Plus it'd be a shame if they continue to dog these challenges in future. I'm surprised that some of you seem baffled why November's challenge attracted much more attention than other months. It stands to reason that a big prize = more publicity = more people listening = more people voting. I'm fairly sure the sponsors of such competitions hope this will be the case too. Me, I plug the competition each month to the same group of people: on Basschat (in the general forum) and externally to the BC SoundCloud group and on Twitter (I have a Facebook page but it's useless - you can see for yourselves here). Each time I've won, the % of votes I've received has been fairly consistent: around 32% in September and October (the latter jointly with Silddx), and 37% in November. So some people out there must like my music regardless of there being a prize on offer. Undoubtedly a lot of other people were promoting the competition in November and rightly so (if you weren't one of them, why not?). Some people may have been canvassing for folks to vote just for them - if so, it clearly didn't do them much good from where I'm standing. We ended up with the highest number of entries thus far, the most Facebook 'likes', the most Tweets and re-Tweets, etc, by a long chalk. I have no doubt it attracted a lot of new people to Basschat. And I think that's a good thing. I got 343 plays on SoundCloud last month and 77 this time round. So my message to anyone who helped publicise it because of the prize is: don't slack off and please keep on doing so. I certainly am. November came down to a three horse race (similar to December) and in the final stages I think people weren't bothering to listen to each entry but instead voted for their favourite among the top three. That probably applied even more so to BC newcomers. While that sucks I'm unashamedly happy that it was mine that ended up favourite. If anybody here feels their own track was more deserving then come out and say so - I won't be offended. Otherwise all this talk of canvassing and unfair play is at risk of sounding like sour grapes. Peace and a happy new year to y'all. Paul
Paul, honestly mate, I wasn't implicating you or anyone else, it was a point of general principle. You deserve your win and I hope the build is going well x
-
Congratulations BobbyK A well deserved winner.
-
It's the canvassing for votes I have a major problem with. I think it's deeply unfair. I'm glad there's no prize this month, even if that means it gets a quarter of the votes it did last month, at least they are more likely to be honest votes.

How can it possibly be a passive bass?

Something Old & Something New - Your Recordings.
xilddx replied to xilddx's topic in Share Your Music
Three tracks from old(ish) to new, 1998, 2004 and 2012. The first two are tunes by my old band, the last is one of the band's old song which I played on for another artist. https://soundcloud.c...ethingoldandnew The first track I suspect was my old Stringray 5 plugged direct into the desk. The second played on an early 80s '57 reissue P-Bass (maple board) DI and Mic'd through an SWR SM400 and Henry 8x8. The last was a Sadowsky, rosewood board P-bass through a vintage Pultec EQ and into the desk. Enjoy
Really good work mate. I like the middle one best, but the last one is very good indeed but needed a more sensitive mix for me, it's too full and loses punch and vocal definition. But really bloody good! -
Voted. For Bobby K. It's a lovely interpretation of the picture, really sweetly composed and very sensitively performed. I really, really liked it. Also liked SKOL's and bobbass4k's.

are there any super bands with poor bass players?
xilddx replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I think this thread (and other similar threads) proves that most people on here who play pop and rock oriented musical instruments have absolutely no idea what it means to be a professional, or indeed amateur, songwriting, performing and recording musician in a pop or rock band. Maybe it's just bass player disease. The poor f***er at the back in his worn out Alain Caron t-shirt and stonewash jeans, the 'keep music live' sticker on the 8x10 they had to buy a new car for to get it to the Pig & Dipshit, the constant moaning that the guitard (sic) keeps dialling in too much 460khz so the nice Stingray with the hang tags and mint OHSC can't be heard properly, the lack of appreciation by the rest of the band of the sheer effort you put in getting that Chancellor line nailed ... This thread proves that if all you care about is bass, you are f***ed as a musician. You need to grow out of that sh*t Happy new year -
Fair enough. But you did leave out some pretty big details while bigging yourself up by name dropping huge venues. The only info I have to go on is you were apparently in the same band of musicians for 12 years. I'm sure you can see how that looked to me. You bought the kick boxing up. I thought telling you to chil out considering you were having a rant might have been quite good advice. It's music, we're all here to enjoy it, he's having a good time, just humour him and keep your distance. I've played with all sorts of deluded characters, typically the bigger the band and more money they make, the more deluded they get. Sorry if I mis interpreted your posts.
Did it look like Rush?
-
To be honest you come across in your post as just as deluded and arrogant as this other guy. You've played in the same one band for 12 years, with the same guys from school. You're playing big gigs for big money and that makes you bigger and better than him? Good luck, but there's more to music. TBH, with those big gigs on I'm surprised you have time for your kickboxing. I think you should probably chill out and have a good look at what's going on around you.
Blimey! Get you! I think YOU should chill out.

I inspired myself to learn bass, when I was just a guitarist I was writing and recording lots of music on my Portastudio and had to learn bass to get my sh*t down. Borrowed my mates, then bought a Squier Silver Series Jazz. The players who I listened to for direction were Geddy Lee, erm, yeah, just Geddy lee
That would be a fretless then
Salut!
-
I do like my Just-A-Nut 1s on the Warwicks, though, and have put one on one of the Tsai 5-strings too. If I was having a nut made and the price difference was insignificant, I'd go for brass, but that's just a personal thing.
I find them a nightmarish contraption, Warwick admitted they were a poor design and came up with the JANII which is total sh*t and breaks easily, as well as being very sharp. But the JANIII (especially in brass) is fantastic.
-
+1 And for all you custom bass orderers, +1 for a zero fret.
I also like zero frets.

I had this situation in my first band and first gig about 28 years ago in Wales. I few of us at Dyfed College of Art had put a band together for an ents night at the college, but one guy really wanted to be the singer (we already had one) and for some reason it was left to me to keep telling him he couldn't be the singer, despite his angry protestations that he was better than our singer and should be in the band. A few weeks later, on the day of the gig, a few people started telling me this twat wanted to beat the sh*t out of me after the show. I didn't take this TOO seriously but then even the guys in the band were telling me this and said he really means it, he's a nutter with mental health problems. Thanks guys. I am not a fighter and this made me really f***ing nervous, nauseous, like I was at school with the bully rumours of a beating later. We did the show and this prick was near the stage watching me. So my first gig was NOT a pleasure. I went to the dressing room after the show, funny no-one else in the band joined me isn't it. Then this prick comes in, clamps his hand on my throat and starts telling me I'm a worthless f*** and I should have let him sing. After about half an hour of this I'd managed to calm him down and he said I wasn't f***ing worth it, and loads of other sh*t. He left, cursing. Then the rest of the band came in! What a bunch of f***ing c**ts! I dishonoured myself by playing with them for a while after that too! I should have given them merry f***ing hell and cast them from my life.

Hello mate. Good to see you back!
