It want that long ago that loads of bands had a Peavey 1x15 TNT combo of about 120 -150 Watts was it?
Exactly. I've tried/tested owned many of the old regular solid state heavy amps, and I still own a full size tube amp. The absolute worst amps, especially in terms of volume, were actually Ampeg. The cheap SVT clone they do, and the SVT Pro 3. Both extremely underpowered amongst other things. Every micro I've owned has definitely had more ommphh and slam. I must admit, my ex Trace 400SMX was a beast. Extremely loud, very clear, but what an awkward shape/weight!!!
Fair points. FWIW, they've been around for a number of years in Scandanavia. They're only new to the UK. It's another name in the mix, with very competitive prices and excellent build quality. From what I can see, it's all good.
Wise words. These cabs are by no means 'new' to the market; they have only started to gain interest over here as they have been lent out (very kindly) and also, a few BC'ers have invested in them. If you compare the pricing, and the absolutely superb fit and finish, (disregarding the actual aesthestics for a moment) then these cabs are a very good contender. If the BF comparison is being made, these are cheaper and that's including the price to get them over to the UK. I don't understand why it is SO bad to have an amp/cab that looks aesthetically pleasing as well as well engineered and with excellent fit and finish. It isn't hard, its just part of having a flair for design.

Update - Roqsolid have confirmed the covers DO have a cut out for the wheels
-
Spare tube?! The preamp tube will last a VERY long time...probably longer than most of us will own the amp. If you want to change tubes for tonal reasons, then I understand. The cover was about £48 delivered from Roqsolid. I agree, its not cheap, but it IS padded very well.
By any chance did you check with Roqsolid about the "taper" on the cover to stop fouling the wheels?
I've emailed about this...can't access my personal emails until later though to see if they responded.

They said the same with mine, and it showed up. Don't worry, they will know how many they can sell. THey have taken it off the site anyway. If in doubt, and it doesn't turn up, Bass Direct have them for a good price.

I finally managed to spend more time on the NX2 212 yesterday. I doubt it will get much action with the band until I get a new car in February, but hopefully the guitarist won't mind me putting it on his backseat. I'll wait for the cover first. Anyway, I am super impressed. Even for £750 I'd be impressed. Superb build quality, nice throaty clear bass tone, plenty of punchy, EQ's very easily, nice tweeter (not 'plastic' or brittle sounding), very light, nice small form factor. I can't wait to hear it with a band setup.
-
The NX2 is now £399 at Bass Direct. Save yourself a lot if hassle and get one! It's basically almost half price! The NX2 will get very close to 4x10 volume and punch, beating some of the more normal mid priced 4x10s easily.
The NX2-212T seems now in stock at Bass Direct for £399.
Ay. Fantastic bargain. I've just had a play with mine (finally) and it is very balanced. Compared to the TKS 12/6 I have on loan, the 12/6 has more depth and low end with the amp etc set flat, whereas I feel the Genz has more detail even with the tweeter off. The tweeter does not get harsh even when on full. The NX2 is definitely a keeper for me. I'm very impressed. I love how it will go from modern clean crisp hi fi to more fat warm organic neck pickup tones and still sound balanced. Absolute bargain.
I think he sounds best on a Modulus live, I wasnt a fan of his Jazz bass era and I presume neither was he as it was quite short and returned to the Modulus even though he had parted company with them so he must really dig them, I still want one in sparkly silver, 5 string natch
I agree on the Flea/Jazz combination. Too much twang and not enough grunt.

I am a massive fan of the Aguilar DB cabs, but there is a caveat to that: A) - The prices for the DB cabs now are, IMO, too high. I bought a DB212 for a little bit more than the current price of a DB112 (brand new as well). B ) - 1 DB112 cab will struggle if you are going from a 4x10 and want to retain most of the volume. In fact, it just won't work. You will be pushing one speaker very hard. C) - A DB112 cab is not light, if you compare it to many 2x12s on the market. Eg, the Berg CN 212 is around 46lbs, the GB NX2 212T is 47lbs. They will absolutely outperform a single 12. I own a DB212 and the tone is fantastic. It looks great, has a tone I prefer, and is plenty loud enough. I could not rehearse with a DB112 that well, never mind gig, unless its quite a quiet band or they don't have a lot of stage volume. Despite all this, the DB112/212 is still one of my favourite cabs for tone.
Noticing that several on here own three Genz amps, I wonder if that is historical (as in owning say a Streamliner and a ShuttleMax and an old one), or whether there is a rationale for owning three new ones (as in say a Streamliner, and a GBE as well as a ShuttleMax). More specifically: in addition to the GBE not using Class D, are the GBEs and the ShuttleMaxes voiced differently from each other? Or is this about transportability or other stuff?
I have the Max 9.2 and Streamliner, purely because I'm greedy and I also like the completel different sound they have.
My cover is tapered up at the rear bottom where the wheels are. You thus have to put it on the right way round
Did you get a Roqsolid cover?
-
To you guys that might be ordering the Roqsolid Covers. It might be worth mentioning to them that if they're going of the same pattern every time that the cover on mine is about an Inch too long. It fouls the wheels at the bottom of the cab rendering them useless unless you lift the cover........which is a pain as the the handles are at the top of the cab. It might just be mine but you never know.
Ah I see! Well its the same size as it always has been (the cab dimensions throughout the model/speaker changes). Personally, I'd rather it covers the entire cab including the wheels....I get why it would be annoying if you roll it, but I'd rather have the whole of it covered down to the floor if poss. I'll have to deal with the wheels bit when I come to it haha! I doubt I'd use them until I've lifted it into the venue anyway (eg just to adjust position on stage).
My cab has been shipped!. I can track it on DPD couriers website. Delivery date is estimated to be next Tuesday which is pretty quick, considering I live on the west coast of Ireland. Now can i stretch for a streamliner or shuttle, or should stick with my markbass f500?. Have to say the review of the steamliner with the nx2-212 by the bass whisperer on YT is very impressive
The Markbass F500 and Shuttle would be quite close, but if you like that sound, a very good set of heads! Eg, tight, quick, modern, clean. The Streamliner would be more bloomy, warm, still clear but with 'colour'
You reckon a single 12/6 would hold its own in a rock context with a powerful enough amp?
If its a single guitarist through a moderate combo or small 2x12 setup, with drums, vocals, etc, then yes. It's a very capable cabinet. Very capable.
It's classic MESA. I know you made a very valiant attempted to explaining their pricing policy before, Barrie - but this is just typical of them. They just want to sell in North America, and stuff the rest of us. It's their ball, of course - they can play with it wherever they like. Frustrating, though.
I agree. It's highly frustrating. I don't actually see many shops that deal with Mesa now, especially bass amps/cabs. I wouldn't be bothered about getting a converter for the voltage and getting a USA model, as thats almost as much annoyance as spending £1800+ on a UK model. At £1300-1600 for a tube amp, I would go straight to Matamp or Orange.
-
If anyone would like to speak to WoT about a trial of the 12/6 in Newcastle area, then I'm happy to pass it on etc. I've had a great time using it. Fantastic cab. If I didn't buy the Genz NX cab in the sale I'd be seriously looking into a TKS.
-
To be honest, I've played a few P basses with very strong E strings, aggressive A strings, and weak D and G strings. Could be anything, but it is not just about the Stingray!
-
If a 2x12 isn't enough, then I wouldn't suggest just another singular 2x12 (+ whatever). I would suggest more speakers. Genz currently have a sale on at GAK. I would get another GB 2x12 if your amp will run to 2 ohms.
Can't seem to find the bit where you put the code in.... Maybe I'll give them a ring later.
Right near the end of the checkout. Ordered mine last night. My last Rqosolid cover was superb!

The GAK demos make it sound awful...but not as bad as the Coronado II.

Guys, Roqsolid have responded. There is already 9% off on their site AND...we get an extra 6% taking it to 15%. Great service as usual. They have asked me to post the discount code (case sensitive): NX2-212T
