Much obliged. Now how can I get someone to bootleg some of my gigs...maybe I need some talent?
-
+1 ^^ Great find!

Nice! Missing the souped-up 424? I'm sure the Epi won't mind being shoved aside for a family shot 🙂. And you've got a "full Trav", from the time that a full Trav =4 Yammys. No idea what Andy's current compliment tally s now!

I have to agree with @Richard Jinman that this looks like a decent price for an BB1100S currently in the FS (there's another listed for another £300 more). Richard - be great to get some pics on here of your blonde 1100S!

Thanks for digging that out for us. From the Guardian: 1. In response to a standard letter from Clapton’s German legal team, the woman replied: “I object and ask you not to harass or contact me any further”, and told them “feel free to file a lawsuit if you insist on the demands”. 2. An injunction was filed and the court found in Clapton’s favour. 3. The woman appealed, stating that her late husband bought the disc in 1987 at a popular German department store, but lost. The judge said it was irrelevant that she did not buy the CD herself. 4. Team C - “Costs are usually minimal unless the case is argued in court, which is what happened here as the lady instructed her own lawyers. Now that the full facts of this particular case have come to light, the intention is that the formal German proceedings will not be pursued any further.” 5. The woman’s lawyer told Bild [a best selling German newspaper - wonder how much she's getting paid for that?] that they intended to appeal again. I have zero sympathy for anyone's anti-vax or racist views. But, seriously, this woman and her legal team are a bunch of ambulance chasers.

Agreed. I doubt very much team C would have gone straight to Court - I mean what damages could they have realistically won from someone selling a CD? Court costs would have far outstripped and they would have been aware of the bad publicity. But they wanted to protect their IP. More likely scenario: team C contacts her to withdraw the CD. She ignores their polite request and goes ahead anyway. At which point they up the ante. She loses, but local lawyers whiff fat pay day from a celebrity plus media interviews and decide to challenge the Court ruling. Haters, enjoying their echo chamber, jump on band wagon around the planet. Sound plausible?
-
Agreed, but maybe that's exactly what occurred and she chose to ignore? I'd be surprised if the thing went straight to Court. What I don't understand is why she appealed the initial ruling? Guessing a local lawyer smelling a potential fat pay cheque and publicity, rather than giving their client sensible advice?

My turn 😉 I once turned up to a gig with £20k worth of kit. The stage was cold (so I'd already got my coat) and I put a pair of warm mittens on. I've been told that the tone is all in the fingers. It was.

That is super useful, thanks! I'm going to include that on the OP for ease of future reference.

Hey - welcome aboard to both Basschat and this Yamaha bass thread, which has somehow just managed to garner a ridiculous 8,000 posts!!! And doubly glad to welcome another BB1024 fan 😊 @AndyTravis is usually our resident expert on this stuff...my limited knowledge would be to point you in the direction of the Yamaha store in central London and ask to speak to one of their customer services guys in the basement dealing with their basses, and they should be able to put in touch with the right department dealing with spares. Be warned, though, it seems Yamaha aren't cheap when it comes to spare parts.

You don't want to be saying things like that in front of a reggae player 😉
-
The only caveat I have, having had a further look at the specs, is that the Dubster 2 is down as having a "usable range" of 25Hz to 2000Hz whereas the LF 1400 really is geared to being a sub woofer with a corresponding usable range of 25 Hz to 160 Hz.
-
It's this lot I was meaning. I remember a while back that you and I were both interested in getting a BF Dubster 2 (I ended up getting an RCF 702ASii, as a Dubster 2 was nowhere to be found). I think the LF1400 is an active version of the same, now discontinued, beast and boy would it pair with your main cab (is that a BB2?) for reggae! Ooof!
-
You mentioned on another thread, I think the "Are you feeling guilty for having the audacity not be gigging on a Saturday night and spending it on BC instead?", that you might be reforming your reggae band? If so, brilliant! And PLEASE get that BF LF1400 in the FS! 😊
-
Surely not? I mean your left leg has gotta come a close second behind your right leg?
-
I was kinda wondering where that was coming from? ...but, quite right, it's clearly where our dear leader gets his "feel and inspiration" from.
-
Is there a particular sound / tone you're after? And any steer from the Sire as to what you know you didn't like? Worth focusing on the pups / preamps on offer and maybe canvas some feedback on here - I think that will be where the most noticeable tonal difference will come from. I'll have to admit I like the EMG 40s plus Tone Pump preamp, with trim pot, I've got on my Euro 5LX, a lot. I'd probably also recommend seeing if you can pick up a used Euro 5LX, if you're after a 5 string, and give it a spin. You'll take much less of a hit than buying new if you decide it's not for you.
-
I initially started with a Spector Legend Custom, which was the previous top end of Legend range, and liked it so much I upgraded to an Euro LX5 which I rate very highly. Spector revamped and upgraded their Legend line up a couple of years back and the difference between them and the Euro range seems to have blurred, particularly at the top end of the new Legend range, which can retail for > £1k and also be neck through in construction. The key difference between the two still, for me, would be better electronics in the Euro range. But I suspect it would be possible to upgrade the new series Legends to match, for less than the price difference.

Great job! -
I think the thrust of what you're saying is right. My experience is that you can get a better sound and improved playability if you're prepared to pay more (obviously not always), but it's usually a law of diminishing returns. Cabs are where I've found the biggest correlation between improved sound and spending more. After a certain point, though, pretty much all the improvement in how good a bass player you are and your sound is going to be down to you and time spent on the fretboard and playing with other good musicians. It's the old story - a great bass player will sound great with whatever gear he or she has to hand, but a poor bass player is not going to sound like a pro even if he or she has a £20k set up. But, let's face it, gear is a lot of fun! And if it brings us enjoyment and we can comfortably afford what we're buying, then why not?

Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars. Great with pick.

You're not helping...again 😁
-
Just wondering if I get a couple of pedals as Christmas and milestone prezzies to myself now, with an ulterior motive of having a clear run at bassfan's gear abstinence next year, whether that will actually mean I am already out before I am even in? 😄
-
Yeah me too! Although I guess I can console myself that didn't plumb the sordid depths of guitar gear 😁
-
I stand corrected, that's definitely the better general rule! Good, glad we've managed to get that one finally sorted. Been distracting me from playing bass for a couple of days... 😄
