  1. @bartelby you've hit my issue on the head when you say that the R8 is a lot better to programme and edit than the Alesis SR16, a point which would equally apply to SR18. It's a desire for a much improved work flow that is driving me to look beyond my Alesis SR18. @sammybeeyou say that the 808 clones are bass heavy - I'm interested to know what you're basing that on? The Behringer is only just available, have you managed to try one out already? I'm kinda surprised you can't cut down / edit out the bass heavy element, if you want to?
  2. I'm guessing TJ that you would totally love the preamp on this? And if you didn't have one already, you would jump at this bass?! Aside: new ones are going for around £2.5k and this is a decade old so it would seem that Sadowsky hold their value a lot better than many other basses? (Other than Wals )
  3. Hi Figue2B - thanks for coming back to clarify. Out of interest, in your original thread you mention you prefer BB passive, but that is exactly how a number of BB 734/5A owners mainly play theirs and they really like the passive tone on the bass. On the costs point: I still don't get why you lose less money selling second hand to a UK buyer (when there will also still be shipping and insurance) rather than returning it to the UK store for a full refund? The gents making the suggestion were definitely trying to be helpful when they mentioned that, although as saying goes: that ship may have sailed now! But of course at the end of the day, it's your property to decide to do with as you please and I wish you all the best with the sale - it's a great bass!
  4. @Roland Rock Nice demo of what the Copilot can do and there's one currently in the FS if anyone is interested:
  5. Hah! You going to elaborate or leave us hanging? 😀 Was that a Scott Devine moment of deciding you're purely passive player or did you replace with something else?
  6. Lovely bass but slightly odd FS. This is the same chap who had an earlier FS post in which he said the bass was just a week old (and he had bought it from Bass Direct) and a few BCers asked him why he didn't simply return it to the store for a full refund. He then marked his ad 'Sold':
  7. I think you're going to be in for a treat! I spent a bit more time with this pedal after my earlier post and I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that the GR2 is a very versatile filter. The sensitivity, attack and tone settings in the pic above are broadly what I'm likely to have these set on. But there's then a LOT of 'quack' / 'squelch' variation from changing the decay from e.g. 11am to 3pm; further variety from the range switch hi / low and you can combine all of that with either an up or down sweep. So I think there's going to be plenty to keep you happy! I look forward to you seeing / hearing your favourite settings when you have had a chance to have a play with the GR2 and no doubt my own fav settings will be different to my first impressions post above as well
  8. I fancy getting to grips with decent drum lines on something a bit more intuitive for programming than my Alesis SR18. I see that Behringer are bringing out their analogue RD 808 (a clone of the Roland TR-808) which looks like a lot of kit for £300 Roland have their own successor, the digital TR-08, which is similarly priced at £319, but is a fair bit more compact: And then of course there is software such as EZDrummer 2 for around £90 Be interested to know what hardware or software you guys are using, what you're using them for and how easy you find them to program and be creative on?
  9. Actually sometimes the opposite - Scott can be / is a bit of a hero for some of us in what he's achieved; but that can lead to unfair expectations of him as a standard bearer for the bass community. +1 ^^ absolutely to all of that I'm going to give a shout out to Mark Smith from Talking Bass, who for me is a better tutor than Scott (and not merely half as good!). Appreciate that's a personal view and others may quite properly disagree.
  10. Come on BCers, there must one of you out there with a Fwonkbeta going spare for @bassfan?! 😊
  11. As I soon as I have found something better at filter than the Fwonk, I promise you can have first dibs on it. You may wish to make alternative arrangements in the meantime...😁
  12. The last of my current uploads for now (till I've worked out how to get something comparably good on the Helix Stomp - don't hold your breath 😂😞 I put the 3Leaf GR2 briefly through its paces earlier and found a setting I liked (as per the pic). For me, it's more subtle in terms of dialling in than either the Fwonk or MXR BEF. In terms of sound it delivers more of a SQUELCH, like traipsing through a puddle in squishy flip flops, than the other two. I'm guessing of the three filters on my board @bassfan is still wishing he hadn't passed up on the Fwonkbeta and let me get it instead Filter 9 - 3Leaf GR2.WAV Filter 9 - 3Leaf GR2.mp3
  13. That's an easy one for me: 1) PJ version of the BB NE2 with a passive / active pull switch 2) neck-through version of the BB 735A in white! PS good question btw!
  14. Pinged! I'm having some wicked thoughts for future options with that spare grille...😎
  15. Haha. Fortunately I'm not. Spending far too much time on BC is already social media plenty for me! 😁

    What to do...

Does beg the question, which 8?
  17. @bubinga5 thanks for sharing that clip. Loved it - wonderful groove.
  18. Haha - well done to those Californians for their amazing language skills. I wonder what else he had done for his "custom job" or if it was only a lick of paint?

    apologies

@Tuco you're a better person than many I know to be able to share your story above. Ok, so you were a little late in posting a pedal I'd bought off you but, given what you were going through, no big deal at all! It was not hard for me to cut you some slack back then, when I first got wind from you and confirmed by your BL what was going on - as my missus is a mental health professional in the NHS and she spends her days turning around broken lives. You have some really great band mates and I'm truly delighted you have turned the corner. As far as I am concerned, it's a privilege that our paths have crossed and you are immensely welcome back!

    What to do...

It's not a piece of gear like a Wal bass, that is going to increase in value the longer you hold on to it, so if you don't think you're going to be getting much use out of it, my vote would be for you to cut your losses and move on.
  21. Noooooooo....a "FULL fat Trav" has now been defined as being = 4 Yammy BB's mate. Just because you're currently not as much of a heavyweight (temporarily) as you used to be (partly due to selling basses and partly due to drinking less beer) doesn't mean you can chop and change internationally agreed BB standards that have been universally adopted a while back. What you're simply saying is that you Trav (the BB guru) are on the way to owning just 50% of a "FULL fat Trav" (complement of basses). You can't just decide a 5' 10" is actually 5' 9" 'cos you've shrunk a bit in later life. That won't do at all!
  22. Welcome to BC Burt! Like you, I'm a massive fan of portability, which is not least driven by the fact that, despite being the oldest member of a couple of my bands, I still seem to have been lumbered with the most gear to take to gigs! A few Qs if I may, to point us in the right direction: Do you have a budget cap in mind? And are you happy getting good condition used gear, as well as new? Are you settled on getting a combo rather than lightweight separates? What's your typical band line up (e.g. loud drummer?) and how much is going through back line vs the PA?
  23. Ok that's really interesting in terms of those two basses having a similar tone. Very much what I was guessing a few posts back, but you've gone multiple steps better than guess-work, having owned both models! Well, for me at least, that's a good reason to stick with my BB 1025, particularly as I had such a great experience with it in a band mix the other night, and not to be too tempted by the (one-string-missing and wrong colour 😁) BB 3000 currently up for sale. With you ruling out the BB 3000 (vs the BB 1024/5) and Andy the TRB5PII (vs the BB NE2) yesterday, it certainly looks like my complement of four Yammys (aka "a full fat Trav") is not likely to be seeing an extended waistline in the too near future...
  24. And not only that, you can now also get @GisserD of this parish to make you a tasty more compact housing for it too! Here's a board with a rehoused FI from a happy US bassist:
